The Tourist was intended as a one-season series. BBC commissioned a season two with the help of screenwriters, Harry Williams and Jack Williams. In a recent interview with BBC, Harry and Jack said what they wanted to achieve from an unplanned season two of The Tourist.
Season two finds Elliot Stanley (Janie Dornan) and Helen Chambers (Danielle Macdonald) delving into Elliot’s unknown past. The fairly new couple travel to Ireland in search of answers, only to find themselves in a whirlwind of craziness.
The second season of The Tourist, directed by Chris Sweeney, was filmed in Kilpedder and Wicklow, including Wicklow Beach, in April 2023.

The Tourist Series 2 is scheduled to premiere on January 1, 2024, on BBC. The complete series will be available on BBC iPlayer on January 1. The pilot episode will be available on BBC One at 9:00 p.m. on January 1.
