BBC Releases Premiere Date & Trailer For ‘Vigil” Series 2

“Vigil” series 2, directed by Andy De Emmony, will return in time for Christmas on Sunday, December 10, 2023, on BBC One. BBC announced on November 24, 2023, that Suranne Jones as Detective Chief Inspector Amy Silva will return to head a completely new investigation. DI Kirsten Longacre, played by Rose Leslie, will work alongside Silva to investigate unexplained deaths at a military facility in Scotland.

Vigil, written by Tom Edge, was shot in Morocco and Scotland.

Suranne Jones is no stranger to memorable roles. Jones’s big break came when she was invited to join the cast of the long-running soap opera, “Coronation Street”. Jones portrayed Karen McDonald, an Underworld machinist. Jones starred in 494 episodes from June 31, 2000, through May 13, 2004.

In 2015, Jones took on the lead role of Doctor Gemma Foster in “Doctor Foster”. Jones played alongside British actor, Bertie Carvel (Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, Dalgliesh, The Pale Horse, The Crown) as Simon Foster. Learning of Simon’s affair with a much younger woman, Gemma comes close to a mental breakdown until she is forced to pull herself together.

Rose Leslie is best known for her main role, Ygritte, in “Game of Thrones”. Ygritte, a strong-willed wildling, is captured by Jon Snow (Kit Harington) after her band comes under attack by Qhorin Halfhand and Night’s Watch rangers. Jon is under an order to kill Ygritte but he refuses to carry it out. The two become lovers over a span of time.

Leslie joined the cast of “The Time Traveler’s Wife” as Clare Abshire who is trapped in a time-travel love story. Leslie plays alongside Theo James as her husband, Henry DeTamble.

Vigil’s first series broke records by becoming the UK’s most-watched new drama launch since Bodyguard in 2018. The series received a BAFTA nomination for Best Drama Series and won the International Emmy for Best Drama Series. It was also nominated as the Outstanding Limited on Anthology Series at the 2022 GLAAD Media Awards.
