Logan – As the second episode of Apples Never Fall begins, Logan Delaney (Conor Merrigan Turner) emerges as scuba diving. Logan speaks to Ethan Remy and Elena about Savannah Pagonis (Georgia Flood). They spoke to Stan (Sam Neill) earlier and he didn’t mention Savannah. Logan insists she was there seven or eight months ago. The female detective remembers Logan from Outer Limits Yoga on Main. Elena Camacho thought their dad wanted them to be big tennis stars.

Stan complains about Logan holding their IDs for collateral. Logan gives him an early birthday gift. It’s Kenny Hsu’s marina pass. Logan explains the guy is dead, but they can use the pass to get in next time. Once they’re alone, Indira admits she can’t believe they just lied to Logan’s mom.

She urges Logan to tell them the truth. Logan finds it odd that Savannah left the paperwork blank. Indira reminds him they’re moving to Seattle in a month and just signed a lease. Logan promises he is going to tell them soon. Ethan (Dylan Thuraisingham) tells Elena that that bro can bend. He thinks Logan is right about Savannah’s information being fake. Then, he talks to Elena about her breast milk. Officer Landry (Stephen Walker) interrupts to say he found something while going through classifieds looking for items from a recent break-in. It’s a classified ad for a bike. Elena asks if Joy was riding a bike. Caro (Ana Maria Belo) visits Stan and asks what happened to his face. When she asks about Joy, Stan says she’s around but she’s resting.

He lies to her about why the police were there. As Caro leaves, she calls Joy to leave a message only to find that her inbox is full. Amy smokes weed and calls St. Mary’s Memorial Hospital. She tells the receptionist she is looking for her mom who has been missing for five days. Amy is told she’ll have to call back with more information. After the call, Simon (Nate Mann) asks Amy to stop leaving her life-coaching materials in the dining area. He asks if she has all the roommates’ phones. Brooke (Essie Randles) joins them and kisses Gina (Paula Andrea Placido). Joy reveals Savannah convinced her to get a shorter haircut. She explains that Savannah has been cooking for them and they love having her around. Joy goes on and on about how she had to care for the kids. Savannah asks if anyone ever offered to help. Joy jokes about Brooke cleaning one dish. Tarin (Axielle Doddridge) comes over to serve them. Gina introduces Tarin to her fiancée. Later, Logan tells Joy that he talked to Brooke and they think she needs to be careful. He recommends running a background check on Savannah. Joy argues that Savannah has made Stan happier than ever. When Logan joins the others, Troy (Jake Lacy) asks him about his father starting a podcast.

Joy thinks Logan and Savannah should get her things from the motel after dinner. Savannah isn’t sure it’s a good idea since Dereck could be there. Joy says Logan and Troy can go to protect her. Logan goes home where he tells Indira he didn’t get the chance to tell them. She brought boxes. Logan asks what’s wrong with Miami. He reminds her that everything he has is there. Indira only applied to UM when she thought he was taking over his parents’ academy. She was ready to choose him over what she wanted to do, but he isn’t willing to do the same for her. Logan suggests trying a long-distance relationship. Indira tells him he is 31 so he needs to cut the cord with his parents at some point. Brooke is surprised to find Amy in her mom’s room. Amy explains she is looking for her birth certificate.

They talk about the possibility of never seeing her again, but Brooke is confident she’ll come back. Amy says Stan is at the club getting ready for his match with Mark Higgins like everything is fine. Logan calls to say the police found their mom’s bike. At the club, Stan claims Joy is resting and doing good. When he walks away, the girls mention the scratch on his face and the possibility that he is lying. In the past, Joy overhears Stan recording his podcast. She interrupts to say he has a great radio voice. Savannah goes to the motel with Logan and Troy. She tells them how she met Dereck. Savannah asks about Logan choosing boats instead of the tennis academy. Troy says it just wasn’t a good investment at the end of the day. When they knock on the motel door, a man comes out with a handgun.

As they leave, Savannah admits that wasn’t Dereck. She begins breaking down because she has nothing now. Now, Elena goes to a motel to look for Savannah. The receptionist is unable to help her. As for Ethan, he says robbery just caught the woman selling Joy’s bicycle. The woman in question matches Savannah’s description. Amy goes home and finds that her room has been cleaned. She questions Simon whether he is a serial killer. Amy messes up Simon’s stuff to get even with him. Then, they explain themselves. Simon called local morgues and found no Joys or unclaimed bodies. Back in her room, Amy calls Logan to ask him about the motel he went to with Savannah and Troy. It was in Aberdeen and Joy went there two days before she disappeared.

While Stan plays tennis, Cora, Sulin, and another woman talk about him and Joy. Brooke can’t believe their big lead is that their mom bought a smoothie. Logan questions why their mom would drive that far to get something she could get closer. Logan admits he told the cops about Savannah. He thinks she could be a suspect although Troy believes Stan is a better suspect. Claire (Madeleine Jones) calls Troy cursing and reminds him she doesn’t want the house in Vermont. She calms down when she learns she is on speakerphone with the entire family. They refuse to tell Claire what they’re doing. Once Stan loses the game, Mark (Adriano Cappelletta) asks if everything is okay since he seems distracted. He tells Stan about his new coach, Garces.

Mark admits he is shocked Stan and Joy made it as long as they did. Stan curses him before they begin playing again. This time, Stan ends up hitting the ball into Mark’s face. It busts his mouth. Stan seems happy about it. Troy and the others don’t have any luck at the smoothie shop. Amy suggests she wanted a lawyer since there is one nearby. They speak to Desi (Fiona Stewart) at the lawyer’s office to see if she can help. Desi refuses to give them any information. Outside, Amy says their mom visited a divorce lawyer a couple of days before she disappeared. Logan isn’t sure. Troy thinks he is against it now that it points towards their father. Logan and Troy get into an argument. Troy says he didn’t give him the money for the tennis academy because he didn’t want to see him try to be a second-rate version of Stan.

Desi comes out to say their mother came in for a consultation and she was pretty upset. In the car, Logan promises to talk to Stan tonight before they go to the police. He gets a call from Elena. Later, Elena tells them that a woman named Maggie Summers was selling Joy’s bike. Maggie claims to have found the bike on the side of the road on Sunday afternoon but never saw their mother. They do a line-up with Brooke going first. After that, Ethan and Elena discuss the fact they said it wasn’t Savannah. Elena thinks Joy was last seen at home since her phone was there. Logan joins a drunken Stan later that night. Stan is celebrating because of what happened to Mark today. He ends up dropping his glass before nearly falling over. Logan tries to help him only for Stan to push him.

That causes Logan to think about his childhood. Later, Logan goes to the marina where he asks Cliff if he rented his boat since the tank is empty. He checks the logs and learns that Kenny Hsu’s checked in. Stan is shown grabbing his keys at home. In a flashback, Joy loses her hat while out on the boat with Stan and Savannah. A dog digs up something in the dirt. Cora yells for the dog which has a jacket in its mouth. In a flashback, Joy is shown putting on the same jacket. Logan calls Stan to say they need to talk. Stan has his car washed and cleaned. Savannah and Stan seem close on the boat. When Joy asks what they’re laughing about, Savannah says it’s a secret.

Apples Never Fall Review

The second episode of Apples Never Fall didn’t do much to make the story any more compelling. Many of the same problems from episode one persisted while very little actually happened besides a bunch of meaningless dialogue. Despite having a decent cast, the performances are often very weak. Attempting to force Australian actors to portray American accents isn’t always going to cut it. They seem out of place along with the scenery which clearly isn’t in Florida.

The dialogue is bad causing many of the characters to be immature, unlikable, and even obnoxious. Apples Never Fall is all about posh individuals with a serious lack of common sense making it very difficult to care for any of them. In this episode, Amy was easily the most annoying character with her over-the-top attitude when Simon cleaned her room. God knows her mom has likely cleaned her room her entire life because she and the rest of the kids are incompetent nincompoops.

The detectives aren’t much better with their childish conversations about breasts. More than three-quarters of the episode was tedious dialogue until they decided to throw in a few revelations in the last two minutes. If one didn’t know any better, they’d think they were watching a Channel 5 or Lifetime drama. At the very least, there were fewer make-out sessions in episode two. Suffice to say, it’ll be a struggle to complete all seven episodes just to see what happens. This episode scores a 4 out of 10.
