Allegiance Series 1 Episode 2 Recap

As the episode opens, Constable Sabrina Sohal (Supinder Wraich) and Ishaan Sohal (Adolyn H. Dar) are talking to Ajeet Sohal (Stephen Lobo) from jail. Ajeet assures them that he is okay and feels it is necessary for all politicians to become familiar with the justice system. He says Max Portman (Brian Markinson) uncovered a mysterious sealed “showstopper” and the Crown refuses to disclose evidence. Sabrina claims they are working with a civil liberties attorney to get him a turban and fair treatment. He warns against special treatment. She says they will take the “high road.”

Canadian Federal Police Corps – Following a briefing, Bolton orders Sabrina to ride with Doug Gabinski (Toby Levins) and Luke Tucker (Luchlan Quarmby). Refusing to ride with them, Gabinski says his teaching style is more observing and less talking than that of Vince Brambilla (Enrico Colantoni). He urges Sabrina to leave her problems at home. Once alone, Luke assures her that Gabinski does not have a teddy bear interior. She ribs him for following Gabinski’s lead. He confidentially says a year from now, he will leave Gabinski for Serious Crime. She claims Brambilla said it takes four years to get transferred to Serious Crime. He points out that the two of them are different. Seeing a poster disparaging Ajeet, she stops to take a picture. She assures him that Ajeet will walk free.

Ishaan is out for a run when he receives a text from Sabrina regarding the poster. Elsewhere, Gabinski, Luke Luke (Lachlan Quarmby), and Sabrina respond to an active break-in. Upon arrival at the scene, the suspect smashes the car window with a rock. Ignoring Gabinski’s order, the suspect grabs something out of the vehicle and flees into the house. Upon entering the house, Gabinski finds the suspect unconscious on the floor and signs of drug use on the table. While starting CPR, he orders Sabrina to check on the other man. A frantic woman denies utilizing any drugs. A short time later, responding EMTs take a man out on a stretcher. The suspect claims they have monthly meetings to experience different drugs like Ayahuasca. He says the deceased, Phillip Briar bought the heroin for today’s meeting. After suggesting the heroin was spiked with fentanyl, Luke says they follow the normal procedure. Gabinski says not in this “tax bracket.” Sabrina explains why. He warns of what will happen if the heroin turns out to be from a “bad batch.”

Gabinski dispatches Sabrina to collect his informant from the skate ramp without further details. She asks Luke for a tip but he doesn’t budge because Gabinski never gave him one. Three guys flee when she approaches. While in pursuit, she calls it in. Getting no response from her team, she returns to learn her pursuit was nothing more than a diversion. After a quick compliment, Gabinski informs her of a new dealer selling street drugs in fancy packaging.

Utilizing the address provided by the information, Gabinski escorts them to the Compassion Club of Surrey. Sabrina questions if it is real. Luke assures her that informants never trick Gabinski. After receiving access to the facility, Delphine Moraise (Veena Sood) offers to sell them drugs. She explains the concept of the business which she claims is legitimate. Gabinski asks if Phillip Briar bought drugs from her today. She declines to share her members’ information. He informs her that Briar overdosed. Overhearing their conversation, Oscar asks when did it happen. Sabrina says a few hours ago. Moraise claims their drugs are tested for purity and asks them to leave. Luke and Bolton urge Gabinski to make an arrest. Warning against a rash arrest, Gabinski says Moraise will go down if they can connect her to Briar’s death.

Ishaan tells Kyle (Jake Foy) about Eyes Of The Hurricane (IOH), the far-right group behind the vandalism at Ajeet’s office. Luke and Sabrina are staking out the Compassion Club. A member approaches but quickly leaves when he sees the police cruiser. Luke says they saved his life. She assures him that he hates them more than the last guy. He tells her that he just wants to work but she doesn’t buy it. While throwing insults at each other, they spot Moraise running away from the store to a house. Refusing to inform Gabinski, they watch as Moraise frantically calls for Marcy. As Sabrina exits the vehicle, Luke orders her to get back in. Marcy (Paloma Kwiatkowski) is lying on the floor. Sabrina kicks the door in. Moraise races in and gives Marcy an injection. Luke calls it in as Marcy starts to come to.

Dispatch becomes overwhelmed with overdoses. Bolton orders more Naloxone for all patrol units. Gabinski informs Moraise that the police are going to knock on doors. She says most of their members are struggling, unlike Briar. Sabrina urges her to join them because they trust her. Moraise claims to have notified their members of the bad batch. He accuses her of putting them in danger.

Luke blames Moraise for what is about to happen. Gabinski reminds them of his initial order to do nothing. He says the only rule is to follow orders until there is no other choice. He invites Sabrina to join him and orders Luke to continue surveillance at the Compassion Club.

Sabrina calls Luke to ask if Moraise’s product was pure when it left the shop. She accuses Oscar of cutting the drugs with fentanyl. Moraise attacks him. Sabrina arrests him for manslaughter. Later, Brambilla and Sabrina find Oscar’s lab in the boot of his vehicle. After learning her charges will be reduced. Moraise explains her plan to try to earn her members’ trust. Sabrina warns that the Crown will urge her to walk away from it. Moraise promises they will meet again.

Sabrina tells Brambilla that people believe she receives special treatment because of her race. He says she is an overachiever and it should not matter. Later, Ishaan informs Sabrina that IOH vandalized Ajeet’s office. He believes that an IOH member knew Ajeet was going to be arrested. The episode ends.

Allegiance Review

The series has one major achievement, it checks all the required boxes. The plot isn’t extraordinarily intriguing or even remotely interesting for that matter. Toss in the social commentary and there is nothing about the show worth watching. I highly recommend avoiding it like the plague.
