After The Flood Series 1 Episode 3 Recap

Connections – As the third episode of After The Flood begins, PC Joanna Marshall (Sophie Rundle) stands nearby as Lee Ellison (Jonas Armstrong) and Tasha Eden (Anita Adam Gabay) catch up. Lee confirms he knows Daniel Eden. He receives the bad news moments later. Tasha complains that none of the cops are lifting a finger except for Jo. Lee is asked why Daniel was going by the name Alex Welland. He denies knowing anything about that and insists he was in Daniel’s office because he was looking for him. Tasha tells him that Daniel faked his death. Sergeant Phil Mackie (Nicholas Gleaves) calls Joanna to say she is needed back there because DCI Roy is asking about her.

Tasha Eden episode 2 after the flood

Jo sees Pat outside so she tells Tasha they need to go. She gives Lee her number. Tasha is going with Lee because Daniel was living there and she wants to look around. As Jo leaves, she listens to a message from Chris Robinson (James Quinn) who says he got the locked door open. Molly (Lorraine Ashbourne) visits Jack Radcliffe (Philip Glenister) to ask him about transfering the flood money. They talk about another possible flood and fixing it before it can happen again. Jack needs to take it to the town hall to build a levee. Deepe doesn’t know why Roy wants Jo. DCI Roy (Daniel Betts) tells Jo she is temporarily assigned to the murder team until he says otherwise. During a group meeting, Roy reveals that the lift man was likely in a fight the day he died.

He argues that people saw something and that’s the people they need to be speaking to. Roy says they’re still investigating the names Alex Welland and Jon Clyde. Daniel Eden is still on the board but he isn’t a priority because they don’t believe Tasha. Pat (Matt Stokoe) learns that Tasha dropped by with a man and a pregnant lady. Jo shows Roy the social media picture of Tasha with Daniel. Roy scolds DS Babak (Heider Ali) for not typing her name into Google. He wants to follow up on it because he believes it is Daniel Eden. Jo tells him about the red car that was in the car park when she arrived. Roy says there is a very small window for someone to have moved it. He agrees to let her go as long as she tells one of the others. Jo invites Deepa to come with her.

Molly finds Jack trying to talk some sense into Sarah Mackie (Jacqueline Boatswain). Sarah says they can’t build the levee without consulting the proper parties first. She won’t say whether the council will build the floodwall. Once Jack leaves, Molly admits she just came down to hand in her application to run for council. Jo and Deepa wait for the caretaker. They get the keys and go inside the locked room which is empty. Jo snaps photos of the other rooms. She questions why they’d clean one room. Jo tries calling Chris who doesn’t answer. Then, she goes into the car park with Deepa. Gibbo doesn’t remember a red car, but he lets Jo look at the scene diagram. Jo offers to cover him while he takes a break so they can look around.

Jo wonders if they left the body in the lift before climbing up to the next floor. That would require being strong and fast. Lee and Tasha reach their destination and go inside a garage. Lee tells her Daniel only stayed for a few weeks. He denies knowing Daniel pretended to be dead. Tasha used to look forward to those visits all year, but she suspects Lee used to dread them. Lee says she can look at the stuff Daniel kept. When Pat tells Roy about Tasha, he claims it was only Tasha and the mystery man. Roy wants to shift their focus to Alex Welland. They talk about NANTA which is a remediation company. Roy wants to know what Tasha was doing there and whether she has a connection to the company. When they hear a knock at the door, Lee tells Tasha to stay put. She looks around as Lee speaks to Jack near the door.

It looks like they’re arguing about something. Jo sees the red car from the car park so she begins chasing it. When they stop the car, they find out it is a family going to a costume party of sorts. Jo tells Deepa she believes she just wants to prove herself before she has a baby. She thinks she is on the right track so she wants to solve the case before the baby arrives. Molly and Phil hang out with one of the foster children. Molly walks away to speak to Finn (Leo Flanagan). She shares a drink with him. Finn reveals he is going to camp out there until the inquest is over even though he is supposed to be at uni. He believes the inquest is pointless. They agree the floods are going to keep happening unless someone does something. Finn thinks Jack is flooding the town, but Molly blames Sarah Mackie.

At the station, Jo tells Babak that the caretaker said there were some changes in the building. He admits her Tasha Eden seems to be panning out since she was poking around Alex Welland’s office this morning. In private, Jo tells Deepa she was there with Tasha this morning. Lee returns to Tasha and insists he isn’t in any kind of trouble. He shows her a video of Daniel from last summer. Jo tells Deepa she knew this was a murder and she needs to figure out how it fits together. They check Lee’s history and learn he had a previous when he was 16 for damage. There is nothing to suggest he’s potentially mixed up in a murder. Deepa argues it isn’t the record of a hero. When the DNA results come back, Roy realizes the dead man is Tasha’s brother.

episode 1 pat after the flood

Jo goes home where she talks to Kelly (Faye McKeever) about Jack’s office building and Chris Robinson. Kelly says Chris was supposedly making extra cash on the side renting out the parking sports. Jack was upset when he found out. Kelly confirms all of this happened today. Pat comes home and congratulates Jo for being on the team. He wants to talk about going down to the docks, but Jo doesn’t give him the chance. Jo manages to sneak around and look at Kelly’s computer. She finds Chris’s address. People start flooding in for Suzi’s baby shower. Jo gets upset until Pat pulls her away. Pat wants to know what she knows about Tasha Eden. Jo insists she is close to something although she doesn’t know what yet. Pat claims she is running about playing her dad. Jo storms out of the house.

Tasha calls her and asks her to come to her motel because something has happened. Molly and Finn check the property for detention basins and ponds. Molly suggests they’ll put them in later. She sees Sarah’s car drive by before excusing herself. Then, she watches Sarah meet Jack and kiss him. Jo watches Tasha leave the motel with Babak. She finds Lee who tells her Tasha has gone to identify Daniel’s body. Jo asks why Daniel changed his name to Alex Welland. Lee admits they both have criminal records from when they were younger. One day, Daniel supposedly showed up with a new ID he’d bought so he could get new business grants. Then, he made Tasha believe that he had died. Daniel claimed he wanted a fresh start for the company. Lee didn’t want to get involved in it.

Jo urges him to speak to DCI Roy about it, but Lee refuses to do so. Lee knows Jo would lose her job if people knew how she met Tasha. It isn’t just him who doesn’t want to go down to the station. Dan looked after all the money for NANTA. Lee doesn’t know what he was mixed up in, but he knows that over 100 grand is gone. He worked so hard for that and to change things. Lee thought they were both trying to do that. Now, Daniel has left them with nothing. Lee didn’t tell Tasha that because he didn’t want her to know what her brother was like. Tasha identifies her brother’s body before leaving in a hurry. Lee admits Daniel was the closest thing he had to a brother. Jo is an only child so she never had anyone to lead her astray. She thinks about her dad a lot, especially recently.

After The Flood Review

The third episode of After The Flood was okay although the series doesn’t stand out as being spectacular or memorable. It is clearly too long at six episodes because there are too many side stories just to keep the series longer than it needs to be. Most of the performances are consistent at least from the main performers.

The story isn’t strong enough to keep me interested for six full episodes. The flooding scenes in the first episode were interesting and created a lot of promise, but everything after that has been standard. After three episodes, it is hard to genuinely care about any of the ongoing storylines including Daniel’s murder.

The series is watchable though, but viewers will have to accept many unrealistic scenarios, some annoying scenes at home, and many pointless side stories. This episode scores a 5.5 out of 10.
