As the finale begins, we get to watch the tape and see that Amy (Siena Kelly) gives her consent before the action begins. Dave (Phil Daniels) gives Hairy (Kris Saddler) and Amy instructions before things go horribly wrong. Amy says it happens all of the time before Carroll Quinn (Rupert Everett) arrives and Dave tells him what she said. Carroll wants to make sure they got it on close-up as long as she is okay. Then, he asks her if she feels like going on for half an hour. He claims he can get her to the hospital in ten minutes. Carroll offers her another grand if she agrees to stay and Amy agrees to continue. Carroll tells Dave about Jolene (Hayley Squires) giving him a tough time about it since it was Amy’s first day.

They chat about Tom (Julian Ovenden) and Hayley making a big deal about it. Carroll says she is a bloody drama queen before they talk about her assets sagging. The video ends seconds later. Amy says nothing happened but Stella (Kerry Godliman) isn’t sure about that and says any reasonable viewer will say there was negligence and Carroll didn’t discharge the duty of care expected of him. Stella wants to submit the video as evidence but Hayley says they can’t because it would destroy Amy. Hayley realizes that Amy faked her test. She rewinds the video and says Amy put a finger over the STI test. Amy confesses and agrees to tell them as long as they don’t submit it. Hayley agrees and promises on her kids’ lives before learning Amy had gonorrhea.

She says it wasn’t the bad kind and only impacted her backside. Amy admits she lied about having never shot before because she wanted Hayley to like her. Hayley repays the favor and says they’re going to submit the video anyway. We jump forward and watch as Hayley prepares for the trial. Carroll and Hayley are hounded by the press as they walk into the courthouse. Stella has been hiding something and Hayley wants to know what it is. Abby (Mandeep Dhillon) grabs her phone and shows Hayley that they’ve released the video of Tom Pain having sex with Jolene Dollar but she says it isn’t her. The trial starts after that. Carroll’s lawyer speaks about Hayley and her actions and several witnesses testify. Then, Hayley and Stella agree that they’ll show the tape tomorrow.

Stella encourages Hayley to take care of herself tonight and let Rich take Izzy. She runs into Tom Pain in the parking lot and he asks her for money because the card reader isn’t working. He tells her that their video is doing exceptionally well and they could get a lot of attention by doing it for real. Hayley tells him that she isn’t going to return to the industry and will never perform with him. They trade insults and Hayley leaves after that. Stella visits Phoebe (Alex Jarrett) so she can talk to her about the trial. Stella wants Phoebe to be there for her mother and he tries to tell Phoebe that Hayley did everything for her and her sister. Phoebe doesn’t believe that so Stella tells her that Hayley is doing something brave and lonely. She says Hayley deserves better than Phoebe’s lazy teenage contempt.

Stella pleads with her to come and offers to pay for her travel expenses before revealing she doesn’t think Hayley will win. She explains she has one thing left to try to prevent the trial from completely bankrupting Hayley. She believes Hayley will hate her for it and she doesn’t want her to be alone. Hayley spends time with Izzy (Anya McKenna-Bruce). Phoebe shows up at the courthouse the following day. Hayley imagines everyone is playing with themselves before Stella calls her to the stand. Stella begins asking her about Girl X’s first day on set and Hayley says she thinks Girl X was let down by Carroll Quinn. Carroll’s barrister objects and says the evidence shows Girl X consented repeatedly but Stella says you cannot consent to something that causes you bodily harm in this country.

She goes on to say that her consent would’ve been invalid and Quinn allowed criminal acts to occur on his set. The judge allows the line of questioning. Then, the conversation turns to Tom Pain and how Hayley felt about that since he had raped her but the question surprised Hayley and she denies being raped. She admits Tom had sex with her without her consent. Stella explains that Carroll knew Tom was a violent attacker yet he allowed him to work with other performers. Stella forces Hayley to talk about Tom abusing her in his home. Hayley is asked how she felt when she learned Quinn was going to let Tom work with other performers even though he knew about the abuse.

The judge says the counsel for defense made unsubstantiated and scurrilous allegations against a third party. Before Harriet Nagle (Robin Weaver) is allowed to question Hayley, the judge agrees to let Hayley use the bathroom. Phoebe follows her mother and comforts her in the bathroom. The judge says she will reserve her judgment and endeavor to provide a written judgment by the end of the next term. When the session ends, Carroll sits alone in the courtroom and Hayley leaves with her daughter. Stella tells her that they wouldn’t let her submit the tape and she wanted to help her win. She says she wanted to make sure she only lost one kidney and not too but Hayley isn’t happy with that explanation and is adamant that she wasn’t raped.

When Hayley gets into her vehicle, she sends the tape out to all of her contacts. That causes Amy to lose her job since she hid her STD. Amy admits she faked the test six months ago but her employer doesn’t want to work with her. After that, Hayley gets a call from Rich (Joe Dempsie) who agrees to hold onto Izzy a bit longer because Hayley says she doesn’t know how to be near them without harming them. He tells her to do what she needs to do before agreeing to let her speak to Gabe (Dominic Winn). However, Gabe doesn’t want to talk to her and Hayley hears that. Amy visits Mr. Sokolov (Vladimir Kolishkin). She tells him about his wine before giving her a handbag that she loves. He tells her what to do and she accepts his orders until it is over and she leaves.

After that, Hayley tells Irene that she keeps having dreams about Rich before learning that her daughter has received an offer to attend a horticultural college but she turned it down. Hayley asks her about the offer and Phoebe says they cannot afford it but Hayley says she should go and they’ll find the money. Hayley sells her pink car to get money and gets another job. Meanwhile, Amy continues escorting with a visit to Mr. Quadratullah. When she visits his room, she finds herself surrounded by men. She goes to the bathroom and locks the door since she knows she is in trouble. Hayley goes for a swim before receiving a text from Tom letting her know that Bangcherry offers 30,000 for the real video. She drinks throughout the night before passing out near the washer.

Stella calls her in the morning to tell her that the judge found in Quinn’s favor. She says she should’ve delayed and developed the case. They’ll have the costs hearing on Thursday and Hayley intends to be there. When the call ends, she drinks more. She stops after looking at her children’s shoes and struggles with that decision. She gets in touch with Sabelle (Timmika Ramsay) and finds out that something happened to Amy. Hayley visits Amy who says porn is the same as escorting. Hayley says what happened to Amy doesn’t just happen and that it is years of abuse. She thinks it messed Amy up a bit before offering to help her deal with it. She says she won’t see her again when she walks out of the door. Amy asks Hayley if she saw her bag.

Then, Hayley is introduced to Julie (Faith Edwards) and Mike (Kenny Blyth). Hayley meets with Stella in the courtroom before the judge says she is only awarding 60% of the cost. She has a note that Quinn does not wish to collect damages but they will be seeking legal fees. The costs are set at 40,000. Stella lets the judge know that Hayley is unemployed so they’ll need a long-term payment plan. Harriet suggests selling the family home but Stella doesn’t want that to happen. When that ends, Stella asks Hayley if she wants to get a drink but Hayley says she is trying not to drink. She says she wants to be in control if she has to be in the room with Tom Pain again. That is her alternative to selling her house.

Stella says she should sell the house but Hayley doesn’t want to do that because she and the kids love the house. Stella can’t believe Hayley would have anything to do with Tom and that leads to an argument. Hayley gives her a long kiss to thank her before two boys make fun of Stella. Back at home, Hayley calls Tom Pain and arranges the shoot. She laughs and says she thinks she is in love with him before Tom says he is doing her a huge favor because he doesn’t sleep with MILFs and doesn’t like them. Hayley begins preparing for the shoot using an anal plug. She also gives herself an enema. Hayley heads to the studio and tells everyone that she has rewritten the script a bit. She learns that Sabelle wants to use icing, sugar, and water for the creampie.

She doesn’t want that because she is worried she’ll have thrush for a month with that. She gives them something she has mixed beforehand. Then, they move on to the consent videos. We learn that they’re going to be shooting a courtroom scene and Tom will be the judge. We see a black screen before a distraught Hayley stares at herself in the mirror. Tom interviews her and makes sure she still consents to the video and its release. Tom tells her she is beautiful as a redhead and that she made the right decision. Hayley asks Tom if his mother is still alive and he says yes. Tom says Rita was strict and never let anyone get away with anything. Hayley tells him that people are going to see him one day and he is going to be brutally, brutally shamed.

She says it’ll be hard, he’ll lose everything, and she hopes there is still a woman in the world who will give him a kiss and tell him they love him. However, she hopes that woman doesn’t let him get away with anything. At first, Tom can’t understand that but he begins laughing about it when Hayley and everyone else leaves. When Hayley leaves the studio, Carroll is waiting there to see if she is okay. They agree to visit a restaurant together. Quinn tells Hayley to let him her help before she says it ticks her off that everyone acted like she had bitten the hand that fed her. She explains she stayed with them because she loved them and thought they loved her. Quinn says he did and still does but Hayley says it’ll be better for him to screw her over than take care of her at some point and that isn’t love.

Later, Izzy and Gabriel return home to their mother. Phoebe takes the kids to their nanny so she can talk to Phoebe. Hayley wants to talk about Paulie and what happened when Phoebe was asleep. She admits she was wrong and she is sorry about that. She encourages her daughter to tell Paulie what she told her and do it kindly. She wants Paulie to know that what he did wasn’t okay but Phoebe says she doesn’t want to do that. Hayley says that is okay too although she thought she might’ve missed him. Hayley confirms she did the scene and it was a bit painful. Phoebe goes inside for tea before Irene comes out and sits next to Hayley. She tells her mother that it has been a hard year. Then, we see Hayley is writing about the last days of Jolene Dollar. She continues with her porn career.

One day, she gets a visit from Rich who is covering for his partner and looks at her plumbing. During the visit, Hayley gets close to Rich and kisses him before one thing leads to another. They have sex until the episode ends.

 

Adult Material Episode 4 Review

Overall, I enjoyed Adult Material and felt all four episodes were entertaining. Still, I can’t say it was without flaws and I felt the finale was a bit long-winded. It was pretty good at points but went on a bit too long with Hayley’s return to porn and the final sex scene with Hayley and Rich. I would like to know more about the characters and what happened to them instead. We just got left out in the cold with Amy and Stella.

The finale was funny once or twice and a bit depressing here and there too. For a television show, I thought Adult Material was unique, interesting, and a bit outlandish.
