Diana has done something to Satu. She cannot use her powers to get Diana out of the hole. Matthew and the others quickly point the blame on Gerbert. Matthew calls Sarah and tells her about Diana being taken by a witch. Ysabeau (Lindsay Duncan) remembers that Gerbert had a castle. It is now in ruins. She recalls Gerbert keeping a witch there at one time. Matthew and Baldwin travel there by helicopter. Diana begins moving around. Diana has a vision of her parents. Gerbert hears the helicopter outside. Satu pleads with the witch’s head to help her help both of them. She seems to regain her powers. Matthew and Baldwin find the hole. Diana tries to force herself to fly. She eventually manages to fly out of the hole and into the safe arms of Matthew and Baldwin. Satu and Gerbert escape. Diana is taken back to Matthew’s place. Ysabeau will call Sarah and Emily to let them know she is fine. Diana’s wounds are tended to. Diana tells Matthew all about Satu and what happened. Diana’s back is branded with Matthew’s insignia. Diana seems pleased that Satu was unable to open her up. Gerbert finds the small drum that Satu was beating on. Diana is pampered by Matthew. He encourages her to eat something. Matthew denies killing Gillian. He admits he spared her life, but should have killed her for betraying Diana.

Diana makes Matthew promise that he won’t go after Satu. She wants to do that herself. Matthew thanks Baldwin, who is interested in taking Diana back to the Congregation. Matthew doesn’t want that to happen. Matthew makes it clear that he intends to rally the Knights of Lazarus to protect Diana. Matthew orders Baldwin to fight and obey his commands until he releases him. Baldwin seems to accept those orders. Before he leaves, Baldwin tells them to do whatever they must to survive. He encourages them to move first before the others do. Satu returns to the witch head and asks it who she is. The head reveals herself to be Meridiana (Chloe Dumas). Meridiana pleads with Satu to release her. Satu seems eager to help. She removes the mask. The head recites the prophecy once again.

Nathaniel (Daniel Ezra) and Sophie (Aisling Loftus) speak with Agatha (Tanya Moodie). They want to know about the witch who needs the statue. Agatha doesn’t believe they should get involved with her. Sophie suggests otherwise. Sophie reveals that she was born of witches. While she is a demon, her parents were witches. Agatha isn’t sure how that is possible. They’re worried that the Congregation will want to destroy their baby. Agatha promises that they’ll help them. Agatha tells them Diana’s name. Satu sets Meridiana free. Meridiana refers to her as weaver before she goes. It is believed that Diana might have been spellbound. She looks in the mirror and asks what she is.

A Discovery of Witches Review

I am not a big fan of the magic in this show. Maybe I wouldn’t like it in any show, but the special effects seem a little awkward here. When Diana was being tosses around, it just didn’t seem authentic to me. I can overlook the lackluster special effects though. The rest of the show is very good. The story is surprisingly intriguing and I am not even a fan of this genre that much. Despite the unrealistic nature of the show, the acting has been fantastic. I’ve enjoyed the entire series so far. The magical special effects made this episode a bit tough to tolerate, but it was good other than that.

The episode scores a 7.5 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of A Discovery of Witches now!
