The episode begins with Junior linking up with Harold and Phillip Kopus (Jason Momoa). They take shelter behind a rock and watch a bunch of officers scouring the forest. At home, Rachel Jensen (Allie Gonino) tells Jean (Julianne Nicholson) she is heading to the pharmacy for more medications. Rachel insists Jean will take them, as she is supposed to. Regardless of Rachael’s concerns, Jean insists she is heading out and might not be home later.
Meanwhile, Junior (Kiowa Gordon) and crew plan their next move. Phillip contemplates attacking the officers head on. Phillip agrees to distract the cops, while Harold and Junior make their escape. He leaves the gun and runs for it. When alone, Harold explains that Rachel encouraged him to save Junior. Rachel returns home to a ransacked house. Jean pays a visit to her father, David Rogers (Mike Farrell), who questions about the girls. Jean confirms she is back on her pills, before she apologizes. The pair head inside the home.
Jean begs her father to tell her that it really happened. He admits her brother was becoming dangerous and he went above and beyond, in order to attempt to heal the boy. She admits she listened, but didn’t know, before he turns to leave. Jean throws a bag over David’s head, before he insists the girls need to come with him. He drops down and has a heart attack, while Jean prepares to call 911, but stops. Instead, Jean leaves the home and sits under a large tree. Phillip distracts the cops, as Harold (Martin Henderson) and Junior make their getaway.
They make it to the roadway and Harold takes a truck. With Junior’s pleas, Harold confirms they’re not leaving. They hear gunshots, as Phillip emerges and jumps in the back of the truck. Rachel finally finds her mother and attempts to take her home. Jean speaks about a bag still inside of the home, which they’re not supposed to see. Rachel asks about David, before heading inside. She finds David on the ground and calls for help. The plastic bag still sits beside of him. Phillip and crew finally arrive back home.
Marie (Tamara Tunie) emerges and tells the men about the baby, which has been left behind. Inside, Phillip explains that Chief Levi Gall (Wes Studi) is likely coming after them. He suggests Frank Morgan (Nick Gomez) watch over the home, before he leaves, without Junior. Harold returns home and tells Rachel about Junior. Jean enters and the pair confirm David had a heart attack. Jean says she couldn’t speak to her mother right now, before she speaks about the sludge. Jean enters Rachel’s room and asks her, if he found something beside her father. They head to the outbuilding and Rachel shows her the plastic bag. Rachel accuses her of smothering grandpa, but Jean insists she only did what he did to Brian.
Rachel insists they need to tell dad, but Jean doesn’t think it is a good idea. Jean tells her that she deserves a better mother and will get her away from this place. In the morning, Harold watches a news report about the water samples. He also hears a report about David calling and reporting that the Indians were responsible for dumping the sludge. The state is considering charges against the Lenape. Aschell (Griff Furst) and many other cops immediately blame the Lenape for everything. Harold explains that they’re guilty of anything yet, before paying a visit to Marie.
He attempts to keep the peace and tells Marie about Jack telling him about the mines and the dumping. Harold suggests Marie can get Jack to testify, but she implies he is likely lying. Marie pays Jack (Tom Sizemore) a prison visit. She quickly shuts him up and questions about the dumping, but Jack continues to insult her. He shows her a picture and insists he had it snapped, as insurance. He shows her the truck in the picture and questions what it is doing. He insists it was evidence against the town and the mob only supplied the drivers.
Jack admits he is going to be taking a lot of field trips to testify, if it goes to trial. Harold pays Phillip a visit and chats about the ankle bracelet. Harold brought him a bullet proof vest, which he won’t take. Phillip insists he is prepared for their arrival. Rachel gets a visit from Junior, who apologizes and insists he is going to straighten himself out. She speaks about getting her mother’s disease and being messed up, but Junior says he’d stay with her anyway, before they kiss.
The Indians and Charlie Meer (Timothy Douglas Perez) hand out water, while Sky (Lisa Bonet) speaks to Marie. Marie shows her the picture of the truck. She questions, if they could use the picture as evidence, when they sue the city for poisoning them. Junior visits Phillip and offers to help him prepare. They speak about Junior’s need to see Levi punished, before Phillip sends him away. At the station, Aschell speaks to Harold about visiting David’s house and discovering his body. He explains Jean seemed like she was completely out of it and Rachel appeared to be under extreme duress.
Jean returns to Rachel’s room again and asks about Junior. Jean confirms she likes Junior, but it’ll make it harder for Rachel to leave the following year. However, Rachel has changed her mind and doesn’t want to leave. Jean insists Junior will always be in trouble, but Rachel says she doesn’t want to be alone. Rachel challenges her mother’s authority, when Harold arrives and questions Rachel about David’s death. Rachel refuses to say anything.
Levi and crew arrive outside of Phillip’s place and head inside. Phillip ambushes them. He forces Hassun (G-Rod) to call Levi and invite him inside. Phillip confronts him with a gun. Levi pleads with Phillip and offers cash. Cop sirens wail outside, as the pair continue to speak. Phillip stabs Levi, who insists he has a surprise coming. Phillip arrives at Marie’s house and finds Frank injured. Inside, he finds Junior bleeding and Marie nearly dead.
Review
A pretty good finale for The Red Road, despite leaving an unknown future. With this type of ending, it would appear the show is setting itself up for a third season. Jean, who was mostly annoying last season, was surprisingly interesting this season and especially this episode, when everything hit its boiling point. Although Chief Levi might be gone, nothing was solved and plenty of conflicts lie ahead. We can only hope the show gets renewed for a third. The finale deserves a 7.5 out of 10.
Jay Skelton is a fan of all television shows and movies. He tries his best to keep up with the latest foreign television shows and movies. Jay loves skinny dipping in the dark too.
The ending of Red Road leaves one to have an imagination. Does Junior die? Does the Chief die? Does Jean get better with her pills? Does her daughter’s future still hang in limbo? There is a lot hanging in this film…..
Yep. I think there was a season 2 if I can remember correctly. Yes 2 seasons, but it has been so long since I watched it. I can’t remember all the details now. Some of these things may or may not be covered.
