TV Shows to Watch: True Blood

True Blood is a supernatural drama that aired on HBO. This series was full of comedic screenplay as well as horror. It also contains a lot of sexual content and nude scenes. Therefore, the show is not recommended for minors.

The main character, Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) was a half human/half faerie with telepathic abilities. She fell in love with a 173 year old vampire, Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) whom had just recently returned to Bon Temps, Louisiana. He believed that vampires could live among the humans without causing them harm since the invention of Tru Blood. It would take a lot of convincing to get humans to agree to his theory but he was determined to convince them and other vampires that it was possible.

The vampires split into two different camps. One camp slowly integrated into the mainstream society while the other camp continued to victimize humans for their blood. Once some of the humans got a taste of the vampire blood or V juice they became instantly addicted to it.

This narcotic was very potent and sought out by humans that they were willing to do just about anything to get it. V juice was so expensive that most people could not afford to buy it and the addiction was so strong that they found it was almost unbearable to do without it.

Later on in the series werewolves, shapeshifters, witches, and maenad were introduced to the human and vampire society. While some were violent others weren’t and choose to live in the mainstream society.

Throughout the entire series there was a lot of struggle with racism, discrimination, drug addiction, and religious struggles.

If you are a fan of vampires and other fantasy characters you will love this series. Just be prepared for the disappointing finale because it does not end the way everyone expects it to. This tv series won many awards, which it greatly deserved. The dark, gloomy setting was perfect for this show and the acting was superb. My favorite character, Jason Paquin (Ryan Kwanten), Sookie’s brother should have gotten more recognition for his supportive, comedic role.

The first three season are currently available for free to Amazon Prime members.
