On December 21, 2020, WarnerMedia announced it had completed its acquisition of You.i TV which is a leading provider of cross-platform development tools for television and media companies. The You.i Engine One platform delivers video apps across multiple channels including streaming devices, set-top boxes, Smart televisions, tablets, and gaming consoles.
The single codebase approach enables developers to build app features and implement user experience changes once before deploying them across a variety of devices and operating systems. The You.i Engine One technologies will make it possible for Warner Media to deploy HBO Max across a variety of platforms in markets worldwide.
In 2021, HBO Max is expected to expand into Latin America. In addition to this, HBO-branded streaming services in Europe will be upgraded to HBO Max. WarnerMedia and its affiliates are now using You.i TV technology to enable apps for AT&T TV Now, truTV, TBS, TNT, DIRECTV GO, and more. The Ottawa-based You.i TV has been developing the You.i Engine One technology for nearly a decade.
WarnerMedia has been investing in the technology since 2016 with Jason Press, WarnerMedia Executive Vice President of Direct-to-Consumer Technology & Program Management, joining the You.i TV board of directors in 2019.
