Wolf Like Me

Gary confronts Mary about her former relationship with Anton. She admits to sleeping with him while mourning David. He accuses her of having sex with Anton, both in their wolf form. Upset, she voices concern about their unborn baby before claiming to be disgusted by her actions. He claims to have seen them having sex multiple times before splitting a live chicken. He tells her that they woke up and started at it again. She says he made it up. He believes Anton’s return and her having sex with them is the universe trying to tear them apart. She announces her plan to wash the wolf semen out in the shower to keep their baby from contracting an STD. En route to his car, Gary snatches the newspaper from the delivery kid (Mason Mansour) and tosses it across the road. He nearly hits a man (Dale March) pushing a baby stroller across the street. The hysterical mum (Melanie Koolmatrie) scolds him. He continues to drive erratically until he crashes into a homeless man’s (Dan Wyllie) bugging. Stopping, he rushes back to check on the man to remember Emma (Ariel Donoghue) gave him her lunch, which he attributes to his meeting Mary.

Later, Gary shops with the homeless man who is caught stealing. The man yells for Gary to run. They both rush out the door with a cart of groceries. Olivia (Honour Latukefu) alerts Ray (Anthony Taufa) that it is Gary. They watch as an excited Gary and a homeless man run down the sidewalk. Later at a diner, Gary tells the homeless man how Anton showed up at Mary’s baby shower. He says Mary is lying about not remembering what happens in her wolf form. He claims Mary tried to kill him when she escaped the basement. The homeless man asks if he was scared because dogs sense fear when a commuter bus. Staring at the poster of two women, he says the black-haired lady likes the red-haired lady. Gary turns as the bus pulls away.

Later, Mary sits in her Jeep listening to “Here Comes The Sun” by the Beatles while watching a red-haired toddler (Zachary Coates) excitedly run to his mum.

Anton is at the front desk when Gary bursts in demanding he check out. The hotel clerk (Robin Goldsworthy) tallies up his bill. Anton tells Gary that Mary told him to leave. Gary accuses him of having sex with Mary in the safe room. Stunned, Anton denies any knowledge of what happens in his wolf form. He says the only evidence is the carnage of what happened from dusk to dawn. He questions why they in wolf form decided to have sex. He admits to being confused as to why Mary chooses to be with him. Anton warns that he will never satisfy Mary if he fears nature. Gary explains how Mary is “home”. He says the homeless man claims to have seen Lisa approve of Mary. Wolf Like Me Review

The episode brings back the feel of season one. It reveals how much Mary and Gary mean to each other. Instead of injecting outsiders into their relationship, it focuses on just the two of them, with the exception of Anton. Gary comes to terms with Mary’s wolf idiosyncrasies, instead of debunking them, he starts accepting them.

Good to see Dan Wyllie (Rake, Gallipoli, Romper Stomper, and Underbelly: Squizzy) perform again. A fantastic, diverse actor with boatloads of charisma, energy, and spirit. Would love to see more of him.
