White House Farm Episode 3 Recap

At the beginning of the episode, Ann (Gemma Whelan), Peter (Oliver Dimsdale), and David (Richard Goulding) arrive at the scene of the crime with the intention of taking family belongings. Peter is worried that Jeremy Bamber (Freddie Fox) is going to get angry with them and accuse them of stealing. David tells them that there are firearms all around so he is going to deal with those. During the search, David becomes concerned that the police have told Jeremy about Ann accusing him of the murder. Also, Anna finds a message written on a wall hidden in a closet. The message says that the writer hates this place. David calls her name so she goes downstairs and meets with them. When she arrives, she learns that they have found the silencer for the firearm and it has a red mark on it.

Next, DS Stan Jones (Mark Addy) tells the others about the new evidence. He explains that someone could sneak in and get back out while making it look like nobody did. The latch would fall back down and shut. Taff (Stephen Graham) doesn’t want to hear it and intends to stick with his original theory. Stan is worried since Jeremy wants to cremate the victims. Taff gives in and promises to speak with Jeremy again. This time, he wants to take Stan with him. They visit Jeremy a short time later. They learn that Jeremy and Julie (Alexa Davies) are getting ready to leave so they promise to keep the question short. The couple will be visiting Colin (Mark Stanley). Stan speaks with Julie while Jeremy goes upstairs to get dressed. Jeremy is asked about calling local police instead of 999.

Jeremy says he might’ve thought local police could get there faster before confirming he is taking Valium so that is impacting his memory. He also says he thinks the phones at his parent’s place are all on the same line but he tells Stan that he should check with Barbara to be positive. Julia says that Jeremy called her around half past three or something like that. The interview ends after that. Once the detectives leave, Stan tells Taff that the girlfriend is hiding something. That night, Jeremy and Julia have dinner with Colin and his girlfriend. When the boys get up, Julie tells Heather that he feels the spirit of the two boys. He wants to tell Colin but she doesn’t think the time is right.

Later, Jeremy, Heather, and Colin return home but Julie has to work so she doesn’t go with them. Colin speaks with Jeremy about burying the boys with Sheila. Jeremy doesn’t care about all of that as long as they’re cremated. After that, Taff goes golfing with CS George Harris (Sean Gilder) so they can discuss the case. Taff promises that everything will be finished soon enough. Moments later, Stan speaks with Mick Clark (Scott Reid) about the family’s phone system. Stan concludes that Jeremy is lying about calling police straight away. They’re worried that Julie might be lying as well. Stan gets a call about the silencer so he goes and picks it up immediately.

Stan finds a hair on the silence and asks Ann if it might be hers. She didn’t notice it earlier. Stan secures the new evidence. Heather returns home and finds Jeremy dancing around the house in a towel. He seems to be having a great time despite the recent tragedy. Stan takes the evidence to Taff and convinces him to send it to the lab. Taff doesn’t like the idea but he tells Stan to get it tested anyway. Next, Ann tells Peter that Jeremy wants her to visit so he can get copies of the keys to the house. Peter offers to go with her but Ann wants to deal with Jeremy in her own way. She visits immediately and Julie is there to greet her. Julie tries to take the keys and send Ann away but she won’t leave.

She ends up arguing with Jeremy about the dog being put down. Jeremy gets upset and says his mom loved that dog and everyone else more than him. He claims he did the dog a favor since it was having a tough time without their mother being around. Next, Julie and Jeremy go to the train station so Jeremy can meet with his friend Brett Collins (Alfie Allen). The relationship between Jeremy and Brett seems a bit odd. That night, Jeremy, Brett, and Julie go out with friends. They chat about sending plumbers to Libya. Jeremy says something about Marcus (Tom Christian) being his lethal plumber. Then, he finds the newspaper and gets upset because the murder isn’t on the front page.

This upsets Julie and she decides to leave but Jeremy chases her down. She is upset because Brett was invited and he is homosexual. Jeremy makes it up to her by making out with her in public. The following day, Stan visits Barbara Wilson (Amanda Lawrence) and speaks with her about Jeremy and the family. Barbara was working as Nevill’s secretary. She spoke with Nevill the night before the murder and he had been worried for a long time. He wasn’t ill but something was bothering him. When Jeremy went to New Zealand, he got into trouble and Nevill had to send him money to bail him out. Barbara explains that Ann and Jeremy like to be in charge so that was creating problems at the caravan park. Mr. Bamber was going to buy land for Ann and Peter but Jeremy got involved and talked him out of it.

That upset Ann. Next, Ann visits the house and finds Jeremy there with Brett. The solicitor is there with them as well. Jeremy manages to get inside so they find out what items Brett can sell. When they head upstairs, Jeremy can’t enter Sheila’s room but Ann doesn’t believe anything happened in that room. He goes downstairs and their argument continues. Jeremy says she stole many items from the house and she thinks he is doing the same. Eventually, she accuses him of killing everyone before Ann storms outside and scares her daughter. Heather asks Colin about picking up Jeremy. She doesn’t like that idea since he makes her nervous. Colin explains that June (Amanda Burton) messed him up just like she messed up Sheila. He doesn’t want Heather to blame him.

Brett and Jeremy return home and Jeremy is distraught. Julie checks on him and finds out that Ann accused him of murder. He wants to find his Valium while Julie tells him he needs to get ready for the inquest. Next, Mick tells Stan that they’re going to call the incident a murder/suicide so that means the bodies will be released. They’re still waiting for the silencer so Stan decides to go down there and speed things up. Colin arrives and checks on Jeremy. Colin wants Jeremy with him because he can’t face it on his own. He tells Jeremy they need to put it to rest. Stan and Mick make it to the lab. They learn that Sheila’s blood was found inside. Stan doesn’t believe Sheila shot herself once and removed the silencer.

While they discuss the new evidence, Jeremy and Julie arrive and are bombarded by the media. Stan finds a woman who is similar in size to Sheila and he gives her the shotgun. He tells her to see if she can shoot herself. She lays down on the ground and tries but she cannot reach the trigger. Stan is convinced that Jeremy shot everyone with the silencer on and removed it before putting the gun in Sheila’s hands. Stan tracks down Miller and tells him they need to stop this since there is new evidence. He learns that they’ve already finished and the submission said murder suicide. The bodies have been released to the family. To change that, Stan will need Taff or someone else on his side. Jeremy steps outside and speaks to the media.

He hopes everyone will respect their privacy so they can grieve and move on. Stan and Mick watch as Jeremy and Julie leave together and the episode ends.

White House Farm Review

White House Farm is a bit slow but fairly interesting. I am not familiar with this case so that might help too. We can already see that Jeremy Bamber is going to be arrested for the murders and he’ll likely be convicted. However, I wonder if there is more to the story. I am going wait until I finish the series before I dig deeper into the case. At the very least, the show brings more attention to the case and that is a good thing.

However, I hope the show isn’t trying to skew our opinions too much. This episode was slightly better than the previous ones. I’d give it a 7 out of 10. Previous recaps of White House Farm are available on Reel Mockery right now.
