As the episode begins, a new inmate, Sheila Bausch (Marta Dusseldorp) is booked into Wentworth Prison by Jake Stewart (Bernard Curry). She watches anxiously as two women kiss in the hallway. Sheila agrees to wear a prison outfit during her stay before Will Jackson (Robbie Magasiva) enters and introduces himself as Governor of the prison. Will explains that the prison doesn’t have a protection unit but none of the inmates will know who she is or why she is there. He recommends keeping her charges secret from the others. Sheila wants to know if she can keep her necklace but Jake says she’ll get it back later. Next, Joan Ferguson (Pamela Rabe) is questioned by Dr. Greg Miller (David de Lautour). Vera (Kate Atkinson) walks by and Joan changes the subject by asking why Vera hates her so much.
Greg recommends asking her and wonders if Joan sees herself as a bad person. He thinks Joan would believe everything she did was necessary. Kath remembers that Joan killed a child and Greg wants to know more. Kath sees the little girl in the corner before freaking out. Greg tells her that she isn’t going to get anywhere by hiding from the past and that she needs to help herself. When Vera returns to the office, she is surprised to see Ann Reynolds (Jane Hall) back at the prison. Ann sits down with Will before learning that the guards are blaming Lou Kelly (Kate Box) for the attack but Ann doesn’t seem to believe it. Also, Will lets Ann know that he has returned Allie Novak (Kate Jenkinson) to the laundry. She visits Lou and asks about the attack but Lou denies it.
She says she wouldn’t mess up Reb’s surgery. Meanwhile, Ruby (Rarriwuy Hick) and Boomer (Katrina Milosevic) laugh about the letter Boomer received from her friend. Ruby takes a look at a picture of the guy in question before finding out that Boomer has been using a picture of Allie to represent herself. A new report features a press conference from Michael Schwartz who discusses the United States trying to have Judy (Vivienne Awosoga) extradited. When it ends, Judy tells the others that the guy is a terrorist in a suit. Moments later, Jake introduces Sheila to everyone and tells Boomer and she’ll be taking Sheila under her wing. Sheila is given Liz’s old cell and told about her passing before Boomer lays down the rules.
After that, Marie (Susie Porter) and Reb (Zoe Terakes) find Judy snooping around their cell block so Marie confronts her. Judy explains she wants to buy some acid so she can forget everything for a bit. Reb makes the transaction before Ann Reynolds denies Lou was her attacker. She tries to find out who told on Lou for attacking her. Jake arrives to tell Vera that Ferguson wants to talk to her about a private matter and he is worried she is going to pull a rabbit from her buttocks. Vera sneaks up on her in the cafeteria before they head to a private spot to chat. They enter the equipment room before Ferguson asks what she has done to earn her hatred and disrespect. Vera rattles off a list of the things Ferguson did to her. She encourages her to drop the act and tell her what she really wants before rushing off.
Greg stops Linda (Jacqueline Brennan) in the hallway and asks why she didn’t show up for her session. Linda says she was busy and walks off. Then, Vera confronts Greg and asks him about the $30,000 the man took from Ferguson after bashing her. She believes Ferguson was very close to escaping thanks to her total focus. She thinks Ferguson’s amnesia is a part of that focus and that she wants to win at all costs. Vera does her best to convince Greg to tell the committal hearing that Ferguson is lying but Greg confesses he hasn’t decided what to tell them yet. In the cafeteria, Linda pokes fun at Reb and Winter takes up for her. Then, Reb spots Sheila and immediately drops her food tray. Reb rushes back to her cell and Sheila follows her. Sheila explains she cashed one check too many and that led her to prison.
Sheila denies stealing anything and says she raised the money for the clinic through investments she made. She says the whole place was in ashes when she got back there that morning. As for Reb, she says Lou woke him up and saved him. Sheila admits the authorities think she was in on it and helped Mendel poison everyone. Sheila wants Reb to speak on her behalf since she knew she wasn’t responsible but Reb says he didn’t see anything. Marie enters and checks on Reb to make sure everything is okay. Marie invites Reb into her cell and that ends that conversation. Ann checks on Vera and finds out that Jake has installed a nanny camera to keep an eye on Grace and the hot babysitter. She apologizes for being blunt with Vera earlier and tries to explain herself.
Ann is worried that whoever attacked her could go unpunished but Vera is confident they have the right person since the top dog told them who it was. Ferguson listens as Reb uses the phone. When Reb leaves, Joan enters the cell and grabs the phone. She punches in a number and calls Vera who answers moments later. Vera believes it is Ferguson so she decides to confront her about it. Marie catches Joan and tells her to put the phone back before Reb sees it. Ferguson feeds the goldfish and hides it. Then, Vera enters and confronts her. Joan realizes Vera is the one and she wants to know if she knows what real loneliness is like. Vera isn’t interested in hearing Joan’s rambling though. She leaves and tells Allie that they need to do something to stop Ferguson from beating the charges and getting out of prison.
Allie doesn’t want the charges for Bea’s murder dropped but she doesn’t know how to get Joan. Sheila sits with Reb outside. She wants Reb to admit that Mendel did it and to tell the police that he witnessed it to get Sheila off of the murder charges. Reb reminds Sheila that she was part of the therapy and abused him as well. Before the conversation ends, Reb tells Sheila that he is a man and not a lesbian. Judy decides to take the acid later that night while Marie encourages Reb to go back to Greg so he will sign off on the surgery. Reb is warned that Lou will go after Greg when she gets out of the slot and Reb doesn’t want to be responsible for that. Marie says she doesn’t want what happened to Danny to happen to Reb. Judy freaks out before Sheila takes over and calms her down.
Sheila seems to pay close attention to Judy’s assets while caring for her. She encourages Allie to leave them alone so she can take care of Judy. She also says LSD is like truth serum because it’ll make the user tell the truth. In the morning, Allie goes to Vera and says they can use LSD to get Ferguson to tell the truth about her crimes. Allie manages to find LSD and poison Ferguson’s drink. Then, she installs the spy camera in the cell block to catch Joan. During this time, Reb sits down with Greg and admits everything that happens before wasn’t his fault. Reb goes through the counseling session and recalls the things that were done to him by the cult. Joan begins freaking out so Allie sits her in front of the camera and tries to get her to confess to the crimes.
Reb heads outside and thanks Marie for convincing him to return to Greg. Then, he approaches Sheila and agrees to speak to the police as long as Sheila never tells anyone what they did to him. Allie tries to convince Kath that she is Joan Ferguson but Kath doesn’t take the bait. Joan grabs a drink of water and imagines blood all over her hand. She begins saying the blood belongs to the kid. Jake arrives, checks his phone, and learns about Vera’s plan. He interrupts Allie’s interrogation before it spills out into the hallway. Ferguson sees the little girl in front of her before she finds herself surrounded by guards and inmates. Joan apologizes to the little girl and says she killed her. Will calms her down and agrees to escort her to medical. Before that can happen, Linda smacks her in the back of the head and knocks her out.
Ann goes to Lou and tells her that the charges are going to be dropped and she will be released into general population. She reveals that Allie squealed on her and got her locked in the slot. Ann promises to do everything she can to protect Lou should she decide to take revenge. Greg checks on Kath who says the little girl looks at her with great accusation. Kath says Joan murdered the girl by stabbing her with a shard of glass. Greg tells her about the LSD and says nothing Kath is saying can be trusted right now. Vera admits to Will and Jake that she removed the guards and Jake isn’t happy about it. As for Greg, he isn’t willing to accept Kath’s confession because she was under the influence.
Will tells Linda that she is going to be suspended for attacking Kath. Lou returns to Reb and they begin kissing right away. Reb tells Lou about Sheila being in Wentworth and that she stole the clinic’s money. Lou doesn’t want Reb talking to the police and getting involved but Reb says he has to do it. Lou reveals that she often saw Sheila drug the girls so Mendel could rape them. Lou runs into Sheila in the hallway and tells her that Reb isn’t going to bail her out. Sheila wonders if Lou told Reb the truth about her. Boomer gets worried because Gavin is coming to visit tomorrow. The others agree to help her by giving her a makeover. Kath imagines seeing the little girl in front of her and grabbing her hand. The girl calls her mommy and says she loves her. Reb tells Lou he owes the surgery to her. Lou has a flashback and sees Reb on the table surrounded by the cult.
It appears Lou watched as it happened. Lou changes the subject and tells Reb about Allie lagging on her. She says they’re going to take Allie down.
Wentworth Review
This season of Wentworth has been hit and miss. The bad moments greatly outnumber the good. Personally, I am most fascinated with the relationship between Reb and Marie. On the other side, I find it difficult to buy some of this season’s storylines especially Ferguson returning from the dead and the whole cult thing. I am not all that interested in seeing a top dog showdown between Allie and Lou either.
I don’t know. It might just be me but the top dog spot hasn’t seemed all that important this season. It has had little to no impact on anything so a finale standoff seems a bit anti-climatic. Either way, I can see Marie Winter and Reb playing big roles in that battle. This episode was too unrealistic with the nanny camera and LSD interrogation. Previous recaps of Wentworth are available on Reel Mockery right now!

The girl says “I love you mummy” not mommy.
