As the episode begins, Rita (Leah Purcell) tries to figure out what to do about her sister being kidnapped. She contacts Detective Jones (Nick Farnell) and requests to speak to her sister. After a little back and forth, Ruby (Rarriwuy Hick) is given the chance to speak to Rita before Jones encourages Rita to hurry up and fix this. Back at the prison, Boomer (Katrina Milosevic) and Allie (Kate Jenkinson) talk about Ruby not returning to the prison and Allie believes something has gone wrong. Then, Will (Robbie Magasiva) speaks to Vera (Kate Atkinson) and Jake (Bernard Curry) about the return of Ferguson and how to deal with it. With that conversation ends, Allie enters and speaks to Will about Ruby but neither knows what has happened.
Allie spills the beans about Ruby trying to see Rita so she could tell her sister about their father. Meanwhile, Rita pretends to hurt her arm while hitting the heavy bag so her partner will give her ice. She goes to her room and tries to use the ice to freeze the ankle monitor. After that, Reb Keane (Zoe Terakes) returns to Lou (Kate Box) who is busy checking the savings account on the new cellphone. Lou shows Reb how much money they have until Marie (Susie Porter) enters, sits down, and asks about their plans to bring in gear. Jake interrupts and tells Lou it is time to go to the hospital. She gives Reb the phone on the way out. Reb asks Marie why she is so eager to help Lou to which Marie says she wants Reb to get what he wants. Will catches up with Allie and tells her that Rita hasn’t seen Ruby.
Then, Will breaks the news about Ferguson returning to Wentworth. He tells Allie that this isn’t her problem but she tells Boomer about it. Rita’s roommate checks on her and gives her another bag of ice. She tries to break the ankle monitor but can’t yet. Reb is attacked in her cell by another inmate until Marie enters and helps her. Linda Miles (Jacqueline Brennan) takes the bloody inmate to medical and learns that Marie was responsible. Vera listens to the conversation before telling Vera that anything to do with Winter should come to her. Vera goes to Marie and learns that the other inmate was trying to rape Reb. Joan Ferguson (Pamela Rabe) is brought back to Wentworth. Rita finally manages to remove the ankle bracelet before escaping the house without her roommate noticing.
Ferguson is locked away and Vera tells Dr. Greg Miller (David de Lautour) that she wants him to find out if Joan is lying. Greg interviews Ferguson who is still calling herself Kath Maxwell. She tells him that she likes the feeling of being in control and she believes she was well educated. She is asked about family but claims she doesn’t have any since nobody found her in the hospital. Then, Joan says she is having an acquittal hearing in a month and that she is charged with murder. She has been accused of killing someone named Kath Maxwell. Next, Ann Reynolds (Jane Hall) goes to Will and asks why Judy (Vivienne Awosoga) was allowed out of the slot after just 24 hours. He claims he was covering for Ann. They argue about Ann’s orders for Linda and other things.
He learns that he is only governor because Vera made a deal for him so he goes to Vera and learns more about that deal. He offers to resign but Vera doesn’t want that to happen. Rita shows up at Ruby’s boxing gym and chats with Eddie (Paul Moder). She lures him outside and demands to know where Ruby has been taken before taking his phone and looking through it. She realizes he was working with the crooked cops. Eddie says they threatened to take his boxing license so he didn’t have a choice. Eddie follows Rita’s orders and calls Jones to ask about his pay. They agree to meet at a specific location on half an hour before Rita takes Eddie’s car. Vera pulls Reb aside and asks her about the rape attempt but Reb denies it. Vera goes back to Marie and believes she is lying.
After that, Marie tracks Reb to her cell and tries to find out why she lied about it. She tries to find out what is going on with Reb. Eventually, Reb says she doesn’t want Lou to find out because she would kill the other inmate. Plus, she can’t defend herself and wants others to see her as a real guy. Marie says that she sees Reb as a guy and that he reminds her of her son. Vera speaks with Greg and learns that he is going to use ink plots on Ferguson to see if she sees violent images but she doesn’t. Next, Marie gets a visit from Basra (Sahil Saluja). She tells him about a friend who wants to set up a drug arrangement and that this friend has a lot of money. Marie says the friend wants LSD before Allie enters and notices them chatting.
Reb goes to Vera and tells her about the rape attempt and Marie helping her. Rita’s roommate finds out that she has gone missing. Jones arrives at the cemetery but can’t find Eddie there anywhere so he leaves. Jake checks on Ferguson while she plays a puzzle. She tells him that she remembers him because he visited her from the hospital. He calls her Joan but she says she is Kath Maxwell. Jake tells her that he is happy to call her Kath and he’ll make sure the others respect that arrangement too. They go back and forth before Jake leaves and seems confused. Rita follows Jones back to the place where they’re keeping Ruby and sneaks inside. Ruby is surprised to see her sister and she quickly distracts Jones and his partner. Detective Morelli (Patrick Harvey) hears something and goes toward Rita.
Allie goes to Boomer and tells her about Marie talking to her visitor. She believes Marie had something done to Ruby so they grab Marie and take her to a cell for interrogation but Marie denies everything. They beat and torture Marie while trying to get her to tell the truth about Marie. Judy believes she knows how to get Marie to talk. Rita attacks Morelli and kills him after a quick scuffle. Meanwhile, Marie is waterboarded by Allie and the others. Eventually, Allie tells the others to leave the room and she still believes Marie is lying so she pours more water into her mouth. Rita manages to scar off Jones who runs away without getting shot. Rita tells Ruby what to tell the guards at Wentworth but Ruby says they should fight back because Rita shouldn’t go down for killing Morelli. Allie still believes Marie had Ruby killed.
Marie says she believes it is about them and not Ruby. She says Allie punished her because she loved her. Allie mounts her and tells her that she is nothing to her before grabbing a shank. Boomer enters and tells Allie that Ruby is okay and Winter has been telling the truth. Lou and Reb watch as a wet Winter returns to her cell. Reb enters Winter’s cell and tells her that she cleared her with Vera before asking what happened. Marie tells her that Allie thought she had something to do with Ruby going missing but she didn’t. Marie says she isn’t going to do anything about it but Reb wants to tell Lou. Reb steps outside and tells Lou that Marie wouldn’t tell her what happened. Marie cries in her cell alone while Jake tells Vera he has been watching Ferguson all day and that she doesn’t break character. He wonders if she is telling the truth.
Marie cries in her cell and Allie does the same while Rita gets rid of the handgun used to kill Morelli. She bums a lift with some guy who is heading home.
Wentworth Review
Well, this wasn’t the worst episode this season. At the very least, I think the show has done a good job with the relationship between Reb Keane and Marie Winter. I am not sure where that is going to go but I can appreciate that relationship. I really don’t care for Ferguson’s return, Rita, or Ruby. I am getting sick of Boomer and Allie too. It is clear that the relationship between Reb and Marie is carrying the series right now though. To me, nothing else matters. Previous recaps of Wentworth can be found on Reel Mockery.
