Saira thinks they should record an album. She thanks Momtaz (Lucie Shorthouse) for their fan base. They’ll be recording their debut album with the legendary Dirty Mahmood at Molico Studios. The others have to give Amina a history lesson as to who Dirty Mahmood is. Tax says they still have to pay for studio time and the sound engineer. They need two thousand pounds and they only made 200. Amina has landed her dream job at Queen Elizabeth Institute for Stem Cell Research. She is in her villain era after realizing trying to please everyone will only explode in her face. Now, she is doing things her way. Dr. Saunders (Toby Williams) asks her to stay tonight to cover the liver disease tests. She refuses. Taz tries to find paid jobs so they can record their album. She gets a call from a promoter asking if they’d like to play Transcience Fest.

Taz decides to turn it down when they’re not offered any pay. She soon learns there’s another Muslim band in town. Amina’s mom talks to her about a possible date with Ahsan. Amina reminds her that Ahsan friend-zoned her. Once they arrive, Ahsan introduces Amina to Billy (Jack Riddiford). She tells Billy that his event looks amazing. Billy might play a tune or two if the feeling takes him. Amina admits that’s what she said as well. Billy thinks they should make a pact. If he plays, she’ll also play. She agrees. Saira and the others listen to the other Muslim band which is playing a cover of their song. Taifa is a beauty influencer and Imani is obsessed with her. The band is called Second Wife. Sahar reminds everyone they’re supposed to support the greater sisterhood.

Saira argues their focus should be on recording the album, but she still thinks they should play Transcience Fest. Billy plays Don McLean’s Vincent. Then, Amina quickly rushes to the stage to play a song she used to play as a kid. Midway through, she forgets the words and worries she can’t perform without the band. Billy helps her make it through the song. Later, Ahsan tells Ayesha (Juliette Motamed) what happened during the date. Ayesha tells him the white boy is prettier than him and he just got owned. Then, she goes on about living in a white supremacist society and those are the rules. Ayesha believes he needs to make a grand gesture after turning Amina down. Later, Amina learns about Taifa imitating them. Saira urges them to focus on the album. Amina admits she wants to write an anthem. She tells the other members about it.

After reading Amina’s work, they agree to do a girl power anthem. The band ends up playing the song at Transcience Fest. Then, they learn that Second Wife is taking the stage. Amina and the others hear them playing their song and wonder if they’re being replaced.

We Are Lady Parts Review

The opening episode of We Are Lady Parts’s second series will probably be well-accepted by fans of the first. Not much has changed besides the band has decided to focus on creating and releasing its debut album. The series is clearly not for everyone just based on the style of humor which some will find obnoxious and others will find cringe.

Just based on the first episode, the series isn’t as dynamic as it could be. Despite having a unique set of characters, the stories really aren’t that original. There’s are many interesting stories that can be told just based on the characters, their backgrounds, and their religions.

Instead, we’re getting the same stories we’ve seen time and time again. The series isn’t terrible though and it’s an easy watch, but it leaves a lot to be desired with shallow stories and hit-or-miss humor. The opening episode scores a 5.5 out of 10.
