As this episode begins, the man across the way is apprehended when DCI Thom Youngblood (Mark Stanley) tackles him. Lana Washington (Vicky McClure) is surprised to see her father who has been keeping an eye on the place for her. Lana tells him she was in Estonia instead of Ukraine. She learns things are messed up between her mom and dad so he has been staying there. He explains that she won’t talk to him about anything since they lost Lana’s brother. Lana’s father suspects she might be able to help. She promises to talk to her mom, but she has to go to a briefing soon. Alex (Tomiwa Edun) watches a news report about the bombing.
He speaks to someone on the phone about it. The caller tells Alex he did a great job erasing the power station, but it is time to get his hands dirty. Lana goes to work where she speaks to Sonya Reeves (Kerry Godliman). Lana tells her about Thom. Sonya says the drone was self-built. The pressure plates had an ammonium nitrate charge. The way the plates function is highly sophisticated. The person involved could be ex-military or a scientist. Sonya explains how the done manages to short circuit the substation. Someone inside had to turn off the fail safe. Commander John Francis (Julian Ovenden) speaks to DI Amar Batra (Maanuv Thiara) about who could be involved. Then, Francis speaks to the team about the bombing and what they know.
Thom admits it looks like the bombers led them to the car park. The person they believe piloted the drone is in custody. His name is Nicholas Hood (Thom Ashley) and he is a 27-year-old PhD student living in New Cross. DS Helen Morgan (Natalie Simpson) talks about someone overriding the fail safes. Harris Grey and Liam Holby died in the crash. Joe Hanson is still under medical supervision. Everyone is shown the video of the car park explosion with a message saying the police are the enemy. After the meeting, Thom tells Lana that Helen is going to speak to the suspect now. They’re going to New Cross together. Nicholas denies being in the tower block. He insists that they have the wrong man.
When he is asked about the video, Nicholas suggests someone is upset about life. Helen asks if he thinks the police only protect the elite. Nicholas says they’re not all as lucky and they don’t all get dealt the same hand. He talks about inequality and thinks she is upset about that. Alex gets into a van with someone. Authorities raid Nick Hood’s residence. While Thom and Lana discuss the possibilities, Nicholas’s room is searched for evidence. Thom doesn’t want to talk to her about it because she is not a detective. He wants to know if she meant what she said at the car park. Thom didn’t think she meant it. Then, he speaks to Nicholas’s roommates to see if they know anything. They say he is nice, quiet, and shy. He doesn’t have any friends.
Nicholas keeps to himself besides the babysitting. Lana finds electronic components hidden underneath a baby crib. Nicholas’s roommates deny knowing anything about them. Helen goes to the hospital to speak to Joe Hanson. She asks if he is responsible for disabling the fail safe. Joe seems to say yes before he tries to say something to Helen. Meanwhile, Lana is told about the address registered to Zara Baxter. Lana looks inside and sees a woman lying motionless on the floor. She worries the attackers are trying to lure them in and the windows are wired. Danny (Eric Shango) goes for a ladder so Lana can look around. Once Lana makes it inside, she finds a woman restrained downstairs. Zara asks her to get the necklace off her.
Despite Lana’s efforts, the bomb ends up exploding and killing Zara. A distraught Lana doesn’t respond so Thom considers going inside himself. Lana steps outside before he can enter the home. Francis arrives and learns about Zara’s death from Thom. Zara and Hanson had pictures of them together. It is believed that the bombers threatened Hanson to get him to disable the fail safe. Thom explains how the bomb detonated. He tells Francis to speak to Lana since she was there at the time of the explosion. Lana’s dad calls her to remind her to speak to her mother. Thom joins her as they begin talking about whether she did her best. He apologizes for earlier since he knows he didn’t have a right to ask. Lana admits she loves him and would love to make it work.
Thom will talk to Helen because he doesn’t want anyone to get hurt. Sonya knocks on the door to show them something. They look at the fragments of the internal circuit board on the neck bomb. At the station, Thom accuses Nicholas of using Joe’s affair to blackmail him into helping attack the power station. He thinks Nicholas put a collar bomb on Zara when Joe refused to help. The MRL 200 found in his flat was missing its circuit board. Nick says he doesn’t recognize their laws. The hood is removed from Alex’s head. He tells the man he is all in and wants to know what to do. They inject something in his arm that they call insurance. Thom asks Helen if they can sit down for a chat later. Lana tries to get in touch with her mother. Francis talks to Lana so he can commend her for earlier.
He insists he is committed to gender equality. Batra interrupts to show them a new video which targets big tech this time. At the scene, Thom tells Lana the ITN switchboard got a call about 25 minutes ago saying there was a device in one of the lifts. There are people in the lift which is stuck between the fifth and sixth floor. Lana joins them in the lift. Soon, the others are escorted out of the lift. One man refuses to leave even though he knows there could be a bomb in the lift. He claims this is just another way of controlling them like the vaccines. Lana asks for the bomb blanket so she can protect him. The man ends up staying in the lift as Lana begins working on the bomb. Lana finds a jammer that stops the lift from operating. As they ride down to the ground floor, the man tells Lana he told her it was nothing.
A bomb explodes somewhere in the building. A woman pretending to be a firefighter manages to push Thom into the hole for the lift. Lana hears the thud before seeing his body above her.
Trigger Point Review
This episode of Trigger Point wasn’t much better than the first although it had just as many eye-rolling moments. With such an interesting idea and a proven cast, both series could’ve been a lot better. Everything has been let down by the horribly slanted writing though. The writing is horrifically bad at times. It’s like they decided to single out a specific portion of the population who thinks a certain way and tried to make them as foolish as possible.
Even the most extreme on either side isn’t as dense as the characters in Trigger Point, but it’s become the same old storylines from last season. Through the first two episodes, most of the time has been spent on Lana’s personal relationships. The rest is injecting lunatic right-wingers at every turn. All the British writers must’ve signed an agreement to only write about these topics because they’re being rehashed in every single show now.
In fact, it’s like they’re trying to see who can outshine the others and get brownie points with whoever is handing them out or it’s just a prerequisite at this point. How about creating content for the apolitical who’ve swallowed enough of this stuff that they’ve regurgitated it from both ends? A little originality would go a long way to make modern television worthwhile again.

Lana recovered ubruptly fron killing the woman with the collar bomb. I mean Lana did kill her right? She “disabled” what she thought was the detonator then moved to woman’s hair to the side, thus activating the photo sensor. Lana failed to properly diagnose the bomb and defuse it then through general clutziness activated the photo detonator. So basically Lana should have been in the pub very next scene getting drunk and feeling sorry for herself. Instead she’s playing footsie in the car with Thom then getting a big pat on the back from the boss man. It’s those inconsistencies in writing 😂
I think she might’ve been distraught for a scene or two, no? lol! She’s already completely over that little incident with Thom too. Heck, Helen and Lana are completely over that so I guess it wasn’t actually love after all. Good thing they didn’t have a catfight over him. You’re right about Lana being the only one doing anything too.
Seems like the other expos were more than props in the first series. In series two, the only thing I remember Danny doing is grabbing a ladder at one point. John came back and immediately disappeared. Might need to hire a few more expos with so many evildoers setting up bombs throughout the city there.
