As the episode begins, Anna Worth (Abigail Lawrie) continues walking along the beach with Michael Ryan (Ian Hart) watching her from a distance. When Michael gets close, someone calls Anna’s name. He quickly pulls the pistol from his pants and hides before Angela (Genevieve O’Reilly) meets with her daughter. Michael aims at them from a distance but doesn’t shoot. Jack Worth (Tim Roth) arrives in a police car. Michael has to kill a stranger but Jack and the family get away. After the intro, Angela and Anna work to free themselves while Jack waits with a timer. After they escape, Anna asks her mother if she is the first person to be fake kidnapped by her father.
They meet up with him before they sit down and begin discussing Anna’s upcoming date but she says it isn’t a date. Angela hides the list inside of her newspaper and says they should cross another couple off of that list. They tell Anna to go somewhere she’ll never be found if they’re late since being late means they’re probably dead. Jack leaves and Angela checks on her daughter. She tells Anna to be careful and leaves too. Catherine McKenzie (Tanya Moodie) meets with DI Sara Lunt (Kerrie Hayes) to tell her she has a job for her. Sara reminds her that Jack still has her gun but Catherine says it won’t be a problem. Sara thanks her boss but says she can handle herself in the future. Mary (Joanne Whalley) speaks to her kids and finds out that Rachel hasn’t been seen since yesterday.
Jack is with them. Mary tells Sam their absence won’t get him off of the hook and that he needs more practice than anyone. Then, Mary and Jack talk about the last time he tried to help her and ended up shooting someone in the privates. Jack shows Mary the list his family is working on and she is surprised Cath’s name is on there. She tells Jack that a couple of kids have been making drops at a new development. They talk about Georgia Simmons (Neve McIntosh) with Mary suggesting Georgia might be employing the kids to deal drugs at the development near James Street. She confirms it is one of Michael’s developments. After that, Angela rides on a train while Anna lets her hair down and prepares to meet with her new boyfriend.
Jack goes to the development and gets inside easily. He follows a young girl onto the elevator. Once the door shuts, the girl tells him he shouldn’t be in here but he reminds her she isn’t in charge. Both claim they’re buying a flat. The girl thinks she has lost Jack moments later. Mary returns to her house and finds it being raided by police. She steps outside and asks Sara if Catherine sent her. Mary is arrested while Sam watches everything before making a run for it. Anna’s date, Jesse (Percelle Ascott), arrive late and immediately apologizes. Joe (Rudi Dharmalingam) walks to the police station. Inside, Sara tells Cath about the arrest and is told she won’t be needed for the initial questioning.
Jack stops the girl from leaving and tries to get drugs from her. Joe complains to Catherine that all he did was turn a blind eye and he doesn’t deserve to die. Catherine tells him they all played a role and he should take some responsibility but Joe at least wants protection. She says she’ll make sure someone is watching. Jack shows the girl Kayden (Julia Carlile) his money and asks for a key. They go back and forth until Kayden unlocks the door for Jack. When Kayden leaves, Jack maneuvers through the room with his gun drawn. He finds nothing so he unloads his gun and finds a way to waste time. Before too long, Kayden returns with Georgia. Meanwhile, Angela goes to the race track and Catherine confronts Mary in her jail cell.
Catherine wants to know more about Jack’s plan and what they’re doing there. Catherine threatens to burn Mary’s retirement home on Cadiz but Mary says people like them do not get to retire. Then, Catherine threatens to take everything she cares about if Mary doesn’t tell her what she wants to know. When Mary says nothing, Catherine suggests there has been a misunderstanding before offering to take her home. Jack lets Georgia tie her up and he begins asking her questions. Georgia puts soap in a sock and intends to use it on Jack. She wants to know where Jack is keeping the evidence. He tells her to kill him and find out before she slams the soap-filled sock into the back of his head.
Mary calls Angela and helps Catherine discover that Angela is at Haydock. Catherine isn’t going to let Sam go until they’re dead. Sam tries to get Catherine’s gun but it doesn’t work. Jack continues joking about Georgia and her relationship with Michael while Georgia beats him. Anna and Jesse contemplate getting food or a drink but Jesse says he doesn’t drink on first dates but she isn’t sure it is a date. They laugh and Anna agrees it’ll be a date if they get a drink. Catherine meets with Michael and tries to pressure him into doing something. Nevertheless, she believes Jack would’ve used any evidence he had. He reminds Catherine that she has benefited greatly from his expertise. Then, Georgia tries to convince Jack to share what he knows and she offers to share what she knows.
She threatens to kill Angela and admits she knows she is at the races. Kayden warns her that she is going to kill Jack but she bashes him a few times anyway. Anna sits with Jesse and tells him what her family does. He confesses he lives with his parents but claims it is temporary. They go on and on about their parents until Anna gets suspicious that someone is watching her. Kayden helps Georgia cover Jack with ice. Georgia gets a phone call and steps out of the room after telling Kayden to watch him. When she is gone, Kayden checks on Jack and finds he is okay. Catherine tells Georgia to kill Jack and get rid of any witnesses. When she returns, Jack grabs her from behind and snaps her neck. He tells Kayden she would’ve killed her too. He gets Georgia’s gun while Jesse and Anna continue on their date.
They talk about camping but Anna tells him he shouldn’t bother because it isn’t good. She confesses she doesn’t think she’ll be around long here to determine if she likes it there. She notices the guy nearby and tells Jesse that family stuff will pull her away from today. She offers to get them another drink before getting up. She notices the stranger watching her so she decides to leave the pub. The man follows her. Jack forces Kayden to get into the trunk. Angela continues waiting at the race track until she spots her target and Michael notices her. Angela places five twenty on Run to Daddy to win. She tells a couple nearby that Run to Daddy is a rock solid tip for the last race. She tells another group the same thing and encourages them to place the bet with the same bookie.
Anna hides in the bathroom. When she exits the stall, a woman offers to clean up the burn on her neck but Anna refuses the offer. Saima believes Anna is running away from a date and she recommends experimenting with her beauty therapy. Angela bets a lot more money on Run to Daddy. The man warns her it is even and he’ll be lucky to get her money back after his fee but she claims he likes to bet and clean up. He asks her name before she says there is plenty more where that came from if he is interested. She tells the man that she’ll be in VIP Suite Box 5 if he wants to talk. Anna leaves with Saima before Jesse tracks her down. He wonders if he did something wrong. She apologizes and explains herself before spotting the stranger. When Jesse invites her back to his place, she accepts.
At the race track, Michael begins following Angela. Catherine arrives at the apartment and finds Georgia dead. Jack arrives at the track before Angela is stopped and asked for her VIP pass. The guard doesn’t let her pass so she claims the doctors have told her she doesn’t have long left now. She says her dad worked in there before he was run over by a horse before going on and on with more family drama. The man eventually lets her through. Michael enters the room and kills Joe before telling him Catherine sends her regards. Angela pulls a handgun from her bag and enters Joe’s room seconds later. She finds Joe’s body and has to hide when Michael tries to enter the room. She goes out onto the balcony in hopes of getting away.
Jack makes it through the VIP section without being stopped by guards. Michael searches for Angela as she climbs back into Joe’s room. When she steps outside, a gun is placed to her temple. Anna goes to Jesse’s house and looks at the photographs on his refrigerator. We see that Jesse’s mother is Catherine.
Tin Star Review
The first seasons of Tin Star were at least decent but the last season is going nowhere fast. As a matter of a fact, it is beginning to feel like a waste of time. The Worth family is going around and killing people we know very little about. Why are we supposed to care about Joe and Georgia when we don’t even know who they are?
There is no cohesion because we never got the backstories for these characters. Plus, the main characters are doing some pretty silly things right now and none of it makes sense. Why would Jack go to the housing development and let himself get tied up and beat? There was really no rhyme or reason for that. It was lame that Jesse just happened to be Catherine’s son as well.
I was going to complain that Anna’s relationship with him was a big waste of time but I guess it wasn’t since they threw in this little tidbit to piece together the shoddy storytelling. I’ll stick with it until the end because I’ve already come this far but I am not impressed. The last season will likely be the worst. This episode scores a 6 out of 10.
