As the 2nd episode of the 3rd season starts, we see a man digging and sobbing. Then, several people hear Jack’s comments on television. A security guard looks at his firearms. After the intro, Jim Worth (Tim Roth) talks to Angela (Genevieve O’Reilly) about their plan to kill everyone. Angela lets him know that she is okay but he already knows that. Michael Ryan (Ian Hart) tells his partner to get it done as quickly as possible even if that means getting the diggers in tomorrow. They’re told that the crack means any structure built over it would be completely unstable. Michael wants them to cover up the crack and hide it. He tells Jerry the same again. Seconds later, DI Sara Lunt (Kerrie Hayes) sits down with Catherine and learns that an unstable, former undercover could do a lot of damage to the department.

Catherine tells Lunt she reminds her of herself when she first got the position. Jack and his family leave and pass by a wedding ceremony. Anna (Abigail Lawrie) wonders when they’re going to get married. They agree they turned each other down but Jim says he is un-turning her down now. A pink van passes by and Angela lets them know it is her ride. Angela follows the “I Load You” bread truck and attacks the driver moments later. Angela takes the van while Lunt follows Jack and Anna as they try to break into vehicles. Anna prepares to smash out a car window but Jack stops here because they have company. Jack reminds Anna that Angela told them to act normal. Then, they speak with the man in charge of the car rental business.

They rent a car after Jack signs the condition report. As they drive away, Lunt follows them. Angela goes to the Stork Hotel and carries bread inside. She runs into Sean McGrath (Steve Wall) and he shows her where to go. She sits the bread down and prepares to pull the gun but has to stop when other guys enter. She tells Sean there is more so she’ll have an excuse to stay around. Angela returns to the van and bangs on the steering wheel until Jack drives by and notices the van sitting there. Jack notices Lunt behind them and tells Anna to get ready. He forces Anna to get out and tells her to find her mother and they’ll meet at the motel. Jack stops and stares at Lunt. He waves and continues driving. They get out and Jack calls her over to the alleyway.

He buys her a drink. Jack tells Lunt that Catherine is bent. Then, their conversation turns to Michael Ryan and Lunt doesn’t seem to understand what he is talking about. Jim points his gun at Lunt’s stomach and tells her that he needs her to give them a little more time. She cooperates with Jack and cuffs herself to the table before giving Jack her gun. He takes her badge and keys too. After getting rid of her keys, we jump over to Anna. She runs into Sean McGrath. They chat about the band before Sean tries to get Anna to leave but she asks for a glass of water first. Angela approaches with the gun behind her back. They trap Sean in the middle and both pull guns on him. Angela tells Sean about her brother who came there to work for Michael and says Sean is a murderer.

Sean attacks Anna and makes a run for it but Angela shoots him in the leg. Seconds later, Sean grabs Angela and tries to stab her with a knife. Angela fights back while Anna finally joins in and kicks Sean in the face. Angela asks how her brother died so Sean says he was crying for his mommy. They make Sean remove his pants and shirt. They put him in the freezer and Angela asks about her brother’s death once again. She shoots him and hits him. She puts a note in his mouth before leaving and closing the door behind her. Meanwhile, Jack paints something. Michael finds Kev praying over the crack. Michael tells him that they’re going to get proper burials. Kev tells him that Jack is back to dig them up.

Michael says Jack is a dead man and he punches Kev for asking about Angela. Trucks arrive and we see what Jack has done. Michael attacks him again. Next, Angela tends to her wound while Anna tries to find out more about her brother who was killed. Anna helps her with the bandage before Jack joins them and asks if one is down. Angela confirms they took care of it but she thought she would feel better about it. They talk about going out and forgetting about all of this stuff. Lunt goes to Catherine to let her know she lost Jim and her shoes. The other officers make fun of her. Seconds later, Cath meets with Mary and asks her about Jack.

Mary doesn’t want to talk about him so Catherine threatens to get her children into trouble. Cath claims she is offering Mary a way out but Mary says she doesn’t need a way out. Then, Angela works on Anna’s hair before telling her she looks like her mother. The Worth family goes out to a bar Anna found for them. They visit the local bingo club. They drink, play bingo, and Angela wins a meat hamper. On their way back, they cross by a skate park. Jack takes the meat and throws it into the road before Angela nearly gets run down trying to retrieve it. Michael finds out about Sean’s death and reads the note in his mouth. He tells the men to go what they need to do before meeting with Catherine. After looking at the note, Catherine tells Michael to do something about it but he thinks she should since she is the cop.

He reminds her she told him to hold off the last time they met. She admits it is true and explains she wants to know what they know and who they’ve told. Michael believes she is only interested in protecting her position but he says her position helps both of them. Later that night, Sara Lunt collects information about old CR dockets. She waits at the archive while Anna and the family make it to the pub she picked for them. Anna chats with one of the bartenders about drinks and she lets him pick for her. Lunt sits down and begins looking through the James Worth case files. She is surprised when she finds the envelope empty. She tries to search for Worth’s name on her computer but her access is denied. Meanwhile, the Worth family continues partying.

They snort drugs, drink, and party throughout the night. The bartender tells Anna he hopes she’ll come back on her own while Angela dances on a table and smashes a man in the head with a light. Michael goes to The Queen’s Royal and goes inside. He takes pictures of himself in Jack’s room before carving Danny’s name into the wall. He lays down on the bed and takes more pictures of himself. The following day, Angela goes to the ocean and screams at the top of her lungs. She screams again and again until returning to Jack and Anna nearby. They watch the sunset before deciding it is time to get up and go. Next, they show up in the Vicar’s room and Jack places a gun to his head. Jack tells him they need a favor from him. They share their thoughts on God before Jack says it is hard to forget the smell of those dead kids.

Jack tells him that they’re there to get married but Kev can’t do that unless they let him up. Kev gets out of bed before being promptly headbutted by Jack. Then, they go to the church so Kev can perform the ceremony. It goes on and on with Jack interrupting several times to give the vicar orders. Jack mistakenly shoots and kills the vicar so that puts a stop to the wedding. They dispose of the man’s body after that. Then, they return to The Queen’s Royal and go back to their room. Jack realizes something is wrong and begins searching the room until Angela finds an envelope with her name on it. Angela looks in the envelope and finds photos of dead bodies. They realize it is Callum and Angela finds out that they burned him. She begins crying while Jack looks through the other photographs.

They learn that someone has been following them and taking pictures of them. Anna goes for a walk and Michael watches her from a distance. He follows her when she crosses by until the episode ends.

 

Tin Star Review

Yeah. I have no idea where this season of Tin Star is going or if it is going anyway at all. I have to admit it feels like they just erased everything from the prior seasons to create storylines for this one. Am I the only one who didn’t know Jack and Angela weren’t married? I can’t remember it mentioning this before.

Also, I don’t remember anything about their family members being killed by Michael Ryan and Catherine. It feels like we’re getting the same characters with completely new backstories and storylines. The whole thing feels thrown together in minutes so it is very confusing.

Other than that, it feels like nothing is really going on this season. The Worth family is busy partying and trying to get married to do anything significant. You’d think they’d be too scared to do such stupid stuff considering a madman is after them. Just a weird, uninspired season of Tin Star so far. The episode scores a 6.5 out of 10.
