L’Inviisible – Episode 3 begins with Marion Genet’s (Anne Charrier) memory of the day Paris got overrun with the undead. She would be working as a custodian at an art gallery, admiring the Mona Lisa, when the news came in. After a hectic few minutes, she’ll be on the phone with her lover, who ends up getting torn apart before her eyes. Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) will be admiring that very same Mona Lisa when the story returns to the present day. It will be that very evening that Carol not only meets Marion but gets an up-close, personal view of her influence when a rowdy man purposely knocks his food tray to the ground. Without lifting a finger, Marion shams him into eating off the ground on all fours like an animal.

The following morning, after Carol and Remy () are assigned to work details, she asks him about the increased activity in the camp. He explains it as preparation for an attack. She also notices and inquires about a group of prisoners being led through a tunnel. He tells her of hearing rumors of Marion trying to engineer a master race, but seconds after following the prisoners, they’ll witness the failed experiment themselves. Once they are spotted and ordered away, they make plans to reconvene after their work details.

Sylvie (Laika Blanc-Francard) is now being held as a prisoner at the Nest, but it doesn’t take her long to change that when Mathis (Theo Costa-Marini) delivers her lunch. Rather than escape the camp, she goes in search of Laurent Carriere (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi). It isn’t long before she encounters Losang (Joel De La Fuente) and falls to her death in the courtyard, where final preparations are being made for the ceremony.

Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus), Isabelle Carriere (Clemence Poesy), and Fallou Boukar (Eriq Ebouaney) begin their ascent to the Nest just as Losang meets with Laurent. Although Losang gives Laurent a mixture of Valerian Tea and something else, he doesn’t appear at all frightening. He even claims to be excited and doesn’t flinch when Sylvie is revealed as the walker that will bite him.

The bite never happens thanks to Daryl’s intervention. He kills another guard and fires upon several more as Isabelle and Fallou get Laurent to safety. Against Isabelle’s wishes, Daryl decides to act as a distraction so Laurent can lead them to a cave in the woods where he and Daryl have previously trained. Daryl also encourages Isabelle to leave if he hasn’t shown up in a day’s time. The next several minutes won’t be easy for Daryl and he’ll have to deal with several guards but manages to remain mostly intact until he gets surrounded.

Elsewhere, Carol joins the kitchen staff and begins asking around about Daryl. Nearly all the questioned parties remain silent until she encounters the man Marion was torturing. He’ll admit to knowing Daryl but claims that the relationship came at the price of a finger. It takes some convincing but the man eventually introduces himself as Stephane Codron (Romain Levi) and tells her about the island fortress, The Nest.

When Carol shares her discovery with Remy, she also asks him to leave with her. He gives her directions to the Nest but refuses to leave without Julian. At the same time, Daryl refuses to share any information about Laurent with Losang. After getting caught trying to steal a horse, Carol realizes that she was betrayed by Remy for his and Julian’s safe passage to Paris. Rather than lash out in anger, Marion makes Carol an intriguing proposition while simultaneously trying to uncover the truth about her origins. Once again, Carol only shares a modicum of the truth mixed with lies. She will claim that she came to kill Daryl. Much to Carol’s surprise, Marion tells Carol that Dixon has aligned himself with a religious organization in direct opposition to her group’s views. Being that Carol may have helped them uncover the religious group’s location, she offers her the opportunity to join the convoy that will be attacking the location.

The next day, Marion takes Carol to the gallery where she used to work as a caretaker. Apparently, the gallery’s specialty was religious painting. It was there that one painting, in particular, The Deluge, inspired her to start the resistance.

When the story returns to Daryl, he’s clearly been tortured and is now being dragged to a holding cell. Shortly after being locked up, another guard will deliver Isabelle. She tells Daryl that she got separated from Laurent and Fallou. He swears that he didn’t share their location. She apparently believes him and he tells her to get some sleep so they can break out in the morning and find Laurent. She asks him to comfort her with a story. He practically tells her his story while indicating that he found something that completely changed his whole outlook on life.

Losang will prove far more insightful than anyone gave him credit for when he gets Daryl to agree to take him to Laurent by taking Isabelle from her cell. Despite this, Losang doesn’t appear to be willing to deal anymore and leaves with Isabelle in tow. At the same time, Genet readies what looks like a virtual army of resistance members to raid the Nest. This is where the episode ends.

 

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon review

Unfortunately, this episode was only more proof that the series isn’t headed anywhere. As I’ve said before, I could only imagine that the most dedicated of viewers and TWD fans would be interested in watching this. Daryl and Isabelle’s possible romantic connection and their arrest timed with Genet’s raid don’t hold enough water to hold my interest. I’d give this episode a 4.5 out of 10.
