The Vanishing Triangle Series 1 Episode 3 Recap

The episode opens with Lisa Wallace (India Mullen) leading Detective David Burkely (Allen Leech), Detective Gareth Brennan (Aaron Monaghan), and a group of officers through the woods. They approach the house where Lisa found Teresa Gannon (Emily Kilkenny Roddy). They bust open the door to find bloody meat, a clever, and several knives. Brennan looks around to see porn magazines on a table before saying Mark Bulger (Brian Moore) is married. David declares the house a major crime scene.

Mandy Clarke (Jana Mohieden) arrives home wearing a bright pink strap top and a green flannel skirt. She moves cash from her purse.

Teresa refuses to talk to David. Brennan says Bulger’s victims refuse to speak on record. Elsewhere, Susan Reynolds (Laoise Sweeney) and Frances Reynolds (Fionnuala Murphy) listen to a news report about Teresa being found outside Castlemoy.

At the police station, Teresa denies knowing Bulger. Lisa suggests Bulger is involved in Amy Reynolds’ disappearance. Frightened, Teresa prepares to leave when Lisa says he may have murdered her mum, Janice Wallace (Maura Foley). Teresa claims to have been five minutes from home when Bulger abducted her. She says everyone is familiar with Bulger. She believes he would have killed her if Lisa didn’t rescue her. In the hallway, David tells Lisa that it will be difficult to keep Bulger detained without Teresa’s statement. He says Chris Wallace (Stuart Dunne) and Billy Miller (Paul Ward) were arrested simultaneously in 1981. He adds that Billy and Chris were affiliated with the same gang. He suggests Lisa ask Chris about Billy who was never questioned in Janice’s murder. Lisa is at her car when an excited Susan approaches asking if Amy was found. Lisa says it was another girl before telling her that the suspect will be questioned soon.

Sinead Clarke (Carolyn Donnelly) attributes her not picking up groceries to not feeling well. Mandy sarcastically says she is well enough to drink cider. As she prepares to go for takeout, Sinead compliments her for being a good girl.

Bulger pretends to not know anything about last night. Brennan informs him that a credible witness saw him at the shed. Bulger claims to utilize the shed to prepare what he kills. David asks about his relationship with Teresa. Smirking, Bulger asks if he likes Teresa who is “pretty easy”. He suggests she enjoyed being tied up like most girls. Brennan tells him that the witness claims Teresa wasn’t a willing participant. Bulger assures him that Teresa is keeping quiet before demanding an attorney.

Chris describes Janice’s killer as “calculating” and “methodical”. He admits to believing Bulger is not the killer. He professes to still love Janice. Lisa asks him about Billy Miller. He says Billy was a gangster. She attributes Janice’s murder to his gang affiliation. He assures her that the gangsters that he knew did not kill women.

Susan confronts David and Brennan about the suspect not being arrested. Brennan suggests speaking to Cillian Wade (Jonathan Byrne) again. Elsewhere, Lisa asks Siobhan Bulger (Clara Fitzgerald) about Mark Bulger but she refuses to talk.

Joe (Bryan Moriarty) approaches a car when three officers rush in to apprehend him. A group of men sitting at a picnic table flee.

Lisa assures David that Bulger is not Janice’s killer. David suggests Bulger was meticulous but now wants to be caught before agreeing with her. He warns that Chris may be providing her with information in hopes of rebuilding their relationship. She says Chris got in over his head. He informs her that Chris utilized a semi-automatic rifle to shoot a man from 100 yards away. David says that means he is a skilled marksman. Brennan announces that Bulger’s handwriting does not match. He says after Golden Hope’s barman told him about Wade selling stolen video players, he searched his car. Brennan claims Wade agreed to give a statement to make the charges go away. They can now charge Bulger with Teresa’s abduction.

Laura Doolan (Grace Daly) tells Mandy about a party at Katherine’s on Saturday. Mandy tells her that she has plans. Laura asks if she is still seeing the man who is old enough to be her dad. Mandy asks why she suddenly cares. Laura admits to caring about her. Mandy assures her that she is okay. Someone appears to be watching her.

The Dublin Evening Mail – Barbara Abrahams (Derbhle Crotty) speaks to Lisa on the phone. Lisa tells her that Bulger was not involved in the crime. Barbara suggests running an article to warn locals that the killer is still out there. Lisa warns that it could provoke him. Barbara stresses the importance of sending women a warning which Lisa agrees.

David arrives at his motel room to find Tommy Stephens (Adam John Richardson) waiting for him. He warns Tommy that he can’t be there when Lisa emerges from her room to see them enter David’s room. Tommy informs him of the police beating Joe and two other guys trying to find which one of them is sleeping with a police officer. Lisa eavesdrops as David tries to give Tommy money. David and Tommy kiss and embrace. Lisa leaves the hotel in her car. Elsewhere, Mandy returns home. Back at the motel, David calls Mary Burkely (Sarah Carroll) to learn Rachel Burke (Kiera Crawford) went out. Tommy comforts him.

Mandy is fixing her hair when she hears a strange noise downstairs. Descending the stairs, she finds Sinead lying on the floor with a head laceration. A masked man in black shoves her on the floor.

Susan receives a call from a woman claiming to know where Amy is being kept. The woman vows to tell her if she meets her behind the bowling alley. Susan tells Frances about the call before leaving.

David tells Tommy that he would leave Mary if it weren’t for Rachel. He says Mary doesn’t deserve it. Tommy assures him that he is not a bad person.

Susan arrives at the bowling alley to meet a young girl. A masked man in black knocks her out before forcing Mandy into his car. He pulls an unconscious Susan to his car. Susan’s headband lays on the ground as the car drives away.

Lisa arrives at the Reynolds’ house to learn Susan went to meet Mandy who claims to have information about Amy. Frances tells her where the girls are supposed to meet. Lisa finds Susan’s headband in the parking lot behind the bowling alley.

Susan comes to restrained to a floor hook. Mandy claims the man threatened to kill Sinead if she did not lure Susan to the car park. She apologizes before warning that they both are going to be killed. Susan tells her to start yelling. The girls yell, “Help”.

Lisa returns to the hotel to inform David of Susan when she receives a call from a man. The man admits to being disappointed with her because she did not write about him. He tells her that he abducted two girls. Susan pleads with Lisa to help her. The man says she has until 5:00 tomorrow to decide if Mandy or Susan will live. He threatens to kill both girls if she tells anyone. David finds her in a frantic state when the episode ends.

The Vanishing Triangle Review

My optimism has gone from 10 to zilch. The series started out strong, getting weaker with each episode. The writer(s) got sidetracked somewhere between the start and finish of the screenplay.

The episode is the weakest so far. Only a few points worth mentioning. Mandy who is dating an older man gets abducted by a man possibly linked to Janice’s murder. The man utilizes her to lure Susan to a car park. He forces Lisa to pick one of the girls to live.

The episode deserves a 4.8. Get more The Vanishing Triangle recaps here. Support Reel Mockery by donating. Join our forum to discuss the latest TV shows, movies, and celebrity news. Our onsite advertising builds brand awareness, click the link to learn more.
