The Sticky Season 1 Episode 5 Recap

Chapter 5: Blade – Episode 5 begins with Mike Byrne (Chris Diamantopoulos) enjoying the view of his pool next to the lake when he is startled by a honking horn. After going into his office and taking a look outside, he retrieves his pistol with a silencer. He makes it to the front door just at about the same time his guest does. It’s only seconds later when his guest is revealed to be Bo (Jamie Lee Curtis), with the same time of pistol and silencer he has. It takes a bit of convincing but she finally gets him to open the door. Instead of shooting him, she stabs him in the left shoulder with a knife.

Teddy Green (Gita Miller) and Detective Valerie Nadeau (Suzanne Clement) question Remy Bouchard (Guillaume Cyr) at his house. Although he thinks they are there to talk about the attack in the woods, Valerie steers the questioning toward the murder of Orval Steeks (Jason Cavalier).  Remy doesn’t take this well and takes it even worse when he learns he’s being considered a suspect thanks to his dad and the mittens. Despite this, Remy vows that he never even wore the mittens and forgot them at the restaurant, which happens to be the truth. Of course, Nadeau doesn’t believe this. Remy eventually becomes frustrated enough that he tells them to leave.

Things are not looking any better for Ruth Landry (Margo Martindale) at the hospital, as she learns that she won’t be able to take Martin Landry (Joseph Bellerose) home. Even worse, she now has a social worker (Shanon Saintus) looking into the case thanks to recent events. While Florence Russell (Vickie Papavs) relays this news to her, Ruth accuses her of reporting her. When Florence denies this, Ruth automatically blames Leonard Gauthier Sr. (Guy Nadon) while storming out of the hospital.

Teddy and Nadeau argue all the way back to the station and continue once they get there. Nadeau practically accuses Green of helping Remy craft his alibi while Green accuses Nadeau of being rash because there is no motive. Despite this, Nadeau decides to call in a search warrant for the Bouchard house so she can get out of town as soon as possible.

Remy must feel the noose tightening because he is putting together a to-go bag just as Nadeau makes her announcement about the search warrant. Remy is already on edge and Maurice Bouchard’s (Michel Perron) incessant nagging to learn the truth doesn’t help matters. Things are only made worse when Ruth shows up unexpectedly and Maurice continues to poke. Remy ends up blowing up on his father and telling him that he isn’t 10 anymore and he has his own life.

Although Bo was sent to kill Mark and she did stab him in the left shoulder, she ultimately lets him live. Being that Mark hasn’t been properly caring for Charlie’s (Mark O’Brien) flower and the fact that the police now have his description; it is likely he won’t be alive much longer. Their discussion doesn’t get much farther thanks to the unexpected arrival of Ruth and Remy. Bo initially mistakes them for disgruntled farmers until Ruth blabs about Mark giving them the code.

At the Gauthier Warehouse, Leo (Mickael Gouin) and Leonard get into an argument when Leo confronts him about buying up all the local farms. Leo initially denies the claims but when Leo points out they were bought out by a Little Chestnut Holding Company, he can no longer deny the allegations. Rather than continue to deny buying up the farms, Leonard acts out in anger and tells Leo that he is too soft and that is why he hasn’t yet handed the business over to him.

Mark’s situation is only worsening when Bo gathers him, Ruth, and Remy in the living room for interrogation. Much interrogation isn’t needed thanks to Remy’s blabbing about Mike killing Orval and their operation. Bo surprises Remy and Ruth when she tells them that Mike is nothing more than an errand boy. Not only does he not own the cars or house, but he’s about as low on the Family’s totem pole as one could go. Bo makes a mistake when she tries to intimidate Ruth for answers and only ends up insulted. Instead of taking her anger out on Ruth, Bo strikes Remy in the face with her silenced pistol. While this takes place, Green finally responds to the missing license plate call, which happens to be Mark’s current neighbor. She immediately recognizes him from Green’s sketch and points out where he lives. Green happens to knock on the front door at the same time Mike admits to killing Orval in order to save Remy’s life. Although Green is smart enough to go to the rear glass door to look inside, Remy, Ruth, Mike, and Bo are smart enough to hide.

Once Green leaves, it is Ruth who tells Bo everything she needs to know about their upcoming heist. Bo is completely blown away by the simplicity of the plan but isn’t too pleased with the meager payoff. This leads to Bo changing the entire plan. With the plan altered, the blame for the heist will not only fall on Bo’s shoulders, but Remy will look like a hero.

Bo eventually retires upstairs where she places a call to Charlie in Boston to inform him of the new heist. While she does that, Remy, Ruth, and Mike argue about how to proceed. Their arguing becomes so pronounced that it interrupts Bo’s call. As she stabs her cane on the ground and tells them to keep quiet, it ends up snapping and sending her careening over the banister, straight down to the first floor.

The Sticky Review

Episode 5 wasn’t a horrible episode but it wasn’t a great episode. Despite that, I would have to say that it was a necessary episode. Not only did it put Green literally one step away from solving the biggest case of her career but it revealed everything about Mike’s past and history with Boston. In light of everything else, I did find that aspect of the episode extremely intriguing.

Bo was no doubt an eccentric character but I am still unsure how I feel about her. Should she live, I wouldn’t be too excited. Should she perish, I wouldn’t be too sad. All that said, I’d give the episode a 5 out of 10. SYN: As the noose tightens around Remy’s neck, he turns to help from Ruth and Mike. Even though both of them are tied up in their own woes, the entire crew becomes entwined in Mike’s scam. On top of this, a call about a stolen license plate literally puts Green right next door. Leo and Leonard’s relationship becomes even more estranged when Leo confronts him about his dirty dealings.
