As the episode begins, Hannah Stern (Nicola Walker) goes downstairs and looks at The Mirror. She finds an article about the Fi Hansen sex tape scandal before Nathan (Stephen Mangan) and the kids arrive. Hannah reminds Nathan that they’re going to be in court today. She tries to touch his arm but he says no and that he isn’t ready to talk yet before reminding her she left her face cream by his bed. Next, Hannah visits Fi (Donna Air) at her home. Hannah is surprised to learn that Christie (Barry Atsma) is already at Fi’s house. She becomes suspicious that he might’ve spent the night with her. Christie and Fi learn about the tape being leaked before Hannah confronts Christie about spending the night and stinking of red wine.

Fi gets in touch with Richie (Ben Bailey Smith) and accuses him of leaking the tape but he denies it. When the call ends, Christie comforts Fi before she rushes off to get ready for the study. Hannah argues with Christie about sleeping with a client and returns his flat keys. Nina (Annabel Scholey) finds Tyler (Damien Molony) spying on a meeting with Zander and others. He says she is finally here on time for once. He says Zander is worried that the leaked tape came from inside the firm. He tells Nina that he could be the perfect ally. She pleads with Tyler not to tell anyone before she learns that she ranked very higher on her appraisal. She says she went to a meeting but stopped outside of the door. Tyler admits he skipped his first meeting to do coke but stayed the second time.

Meanwhile, Hannah and Christi argue about him staying the night with Fi. He reminds her that she is a grown woman and made the decision. He tells Hannah that she turns herself into the victim and he blames her for everything. He believes Hannah is only upset because his actions might mess up her career. He also accuses Hannah of lying to herself for 20 years. Hannah gets upset and walks off before Nathan receives a call from her but he doesn’t answer. Hannah runs into Maggie (Ellora Torchia) and learns that they’re having a company meeting. Zander (Chukwudi Iwuji) lets everyone know that IT is going through every mail sent out last night to see if anyone leaked the sex tape. He doesn’t want to give Melanie Aickman (Anna Chancellor) the upper hand.

Moments later, Ruth (Deborah Findlay) meets up with Melanie. They chat a bit until Hannah arrives. Ruth tells Melanie that she is going to help out teaching before he goes into the office with Hannah. Melanie tells her that Richie had nothing to do with leaking the tape. Melanie believes the tape is going to be much worse for Fi than Richie. She also tries to pretend that Richie wasn’t on the tape. Hannah wants to know why she is protecting Richie since there are so many other women out there. Before Melanie leaves, she speaks with Christie and several others in the hallway. Rose (Fiona Button) and James (Rudio Dharmalingam) speak outside about Rose and the DNA testing. James believes Rose knows Oscar is her father.

They chat about his duties before leaving. Next, Nathan tells Chloe (Amaka Okafor) about some of his problems. They meet up with Christie, Zander, Hannah, Oscar, and the others. Ruth tells Nathan that they need to put the differences aside so they can help the students. The group does a demonstration in front of the students moments later. The group spars back and forth before the students are allowed to ask questions. Hannah finds a way to relate the situation to her current dilemma. When the demonstration ends, Hannah calls Liv and leaves a message. Fi calls and tells Hannah that she doesn’t know how she is going to get through the night’s show. Fi says that people take their life for granted until it is too late. When Hannah returns to the office, Maggie believes Christie is talking bad about her.

Hannah tells her that he isn’t and it isn’t anything personal. She wants to know if Maggie has something she needs to tell her. Hannah reminds her that she was asked to shut down her computer. Maggie denies leaking the sex tape and she seems surprised that Hannah doesn’t believe her. After that, Nina and Hannah go to the bathroom together. She wonders how she didn’t see what was going on. Nina says the entire world revolves around Hannah. It works like that every time they have family events but Hannah doesn’t want to believe it. Nina says Hannah never screws up but she refutes that as well. Hannah tells her about all of the wrong things she does throughout the day. She says she spent the last 20 years trying to make up for messing up big time.

They return to Hannah’s office and find Rose there. Hannah doesn’t want to hear it but Rose wants to find out what she is doing with her life. She suspects James believes she is one of the worst mistakes of his life. Nina interrupts and tells Rose about Hannah sleeping with Christie. After that, Zander and Ruth speak with Christie. Zander wants to know what they’re not telling him. He wonders why they’re stalling on the prenup. Ruth reminds him that Tyler has a lot of debt and that he was struck off as a solicitor in 2008. He moves to the states and kept practicing likely without a license. Ruth tries to comfort him while Rose snaps a picture of a nanny needed sign. Meanwhile, James tries to continue on at work but he can’t do it.

He apologizes, says he can’t do it, and leaves. Tyler speaks with Zander and offers food but Zander isn’t hungry. Zander says he can take the money and debt. He isn’t sure he can accept Tyler practicing for two years without a license. Tyler confesses and thought things would get better. Tyler tries to smooth things over with Zander but he isn’t accepting any apologies. Fi tries to call Christie but he doesn’t answer it. Nina checks on Hannah who says she doesn’t know but it could’ve been Christie’s. She didn’t want to take that chance. She gets a call from Nathan and learns that the kids have gone missing. Hannah finds out that they’re with Richie heading to the concert. Hannah speaks with Richie on the phone and says it is inappropriate. Richie invites Hannah and Nathan to join them. She says it isn’t right to take their children without asking.

He says it hurts and relates it to his current situation. Fi joins them moments later. Nathan and Hannah arrive at the concert a few minutes later. They sit back and watch as Richie kisses Fi in front of everyone. After things calm down, Richie finds Hannah trying to leave. He tells her that she is fake and he is the king of fake. He will come for her family when she comes for his. He gets angry with his assistant when she interrupts. Richie chats with her about Fi and Christie spending the night together. Hannah says she isn’t afraid of Christie since she has faced much worse. When Nathan arrives, Richie gets in a beer and says he comes in peace. Hannah tells Ali that she needs to speak out against Richie since she wants him to be taken for everything. Hannah suspects she might’ve leaked the tape but Ali doesn’t answer.

Before Hannah leaves, she tells Fi that Richie has bugged her house. Back at home, Hannah tells Nathan not to drink from the milk carton but he does anyway. He wonders what happened to real music. He says he got much more work after the leak and people seem to trust him more now. He asks Hannah if she loves him but she says she had loved Nathan since the first time they met. Hannah says men were crap before him and that the children need him. She has forgiven Nathan but he isn’t sure he’ll be able to forgive her. He wants to know if she isn’t telling him anything. She tells him she loves him. In the morning, Hannah walks to work and remembers everything Christie said to her. Nina goes to one of the meetings and Tyler shows up a bit later.

Nina introduces herself to the crowd and tells them about being an alcoholic. After her speech, we see Rose talking James’s ear off while he tries to remove wallpaper. He gets tired of it and tells her to shut up for five minutes. He is tired of hearing the same old stuff for the past five years. He tells her about hating his job and walking out on it. He also hates his inability to produce a child. Fi checks with Christie and asks why he has been ignoring her calls. He says it was unprofessional since she was a client. When Hannah arrives, Fi says cameras and listening devices were placed all around the house. Some cameras were in the bedroom and that might’ve caught Fi and Christie’s actions. Hannah says they need to speak with Melanie and Christie needs to tell Zander before his fling comes out.

Tyler tries to talk to Zander but Ruth interrupts. Maggie tells Zander that she is going to pursue a job with Melanie since there is no movement with Noble Hale. Christie confronts Zander next and intends to tell him about the fling. Hannah and the others chat at the university in front of the students again. Nathan listens closely until Ruth says it was too sentimental and would never hold up in court. Once that ends, they stand in the hallway, look at old school pictures, and chat about Hannah and Nathan’s wedding. Hannah tells Nathan that it’ll never happen again before she kisses him. After that, she admits to sleeping with Christie the night before their wedding. She calls his name several times but he walks away without saying anything.

 

The Split Review

The last two episodes of The Split were a bit lackluster. This one picked up at the end but it was still too long-winded and slow. I am glad the next episode is the finale. I think it is going to be really good. However, I am not sure where they’re going to go with it. Are Hannah and Nathan going to work out their problems or will she change her mind and sleep with Christie again? What is going to happen between Fi and Richie? That seems like a very volatile situation and it could end badly but I don’t think it will.

I also thought it was weird that Maggie is going to leave and sign on with Melanie since I figured Christie would be the one to jump ship. I hope they tell us who leaked the sex tape as well. Hopefully, they’ll wrap everything up and leave behind no unanswered questions. The episode was okay but not as good as the first three. It scores a 6.5 out of 10.
