The Road Trip Series 1 Episode 2 Recap

Road Rage – Episode 2 begins with Deb (Isabella Laughland) learning that Addie (Emma Appleton) failed to tell her about Dylan’s (Laurie Davidson) new girlfriend, Grace (Hannah Dodd). Marcus (David Johnson) isn’t at all surprised but oversteps when suggests Addie speak to Dylan’s therapist about her anger. This is the first time Addie is hearing about the therapist. The arguing ends when Addie comes to a dead end and the GPS doesn’t dictate a way. Addie decides to take the left without informing anyone but Deb.

With most of the backseat asleep, Deb learns that Addie had misled her even further about Grace. As it turns out, Grace was Dylan’s girlfriend when they met. Deb has been led to believe Dylan was single. This brief conversation causes Addie to remember the first day she met Grace when she unexpectedly showed up at her workplace to visit Dylan. A conversation later that night suggests that Dylan wasn’t expecting Grace either. In fact, he was under the impression that they had broken up.

Things are awkward the following day at the house as Addie tries to go about her chores and Dylan admires her for afar. Things only get more awkward when Marcus unexpectedly shows up and apologizes for yesterday. That awkwardness goes last too long thanks to Dylan interrupting and trying to issue his own apology about Grace. He also spends a few minutes more trying to convince Addie that Grace did break up with him at the beginning of summer. Although Addie doesn’t acknowledge it, it appears that she believes him. This conversation doesn’t go much longer thanks to the arrival of Krish and Cherry (Dinita Gohil).

Sometime later that day, Dylan and the new group are lounging by the pool, debating their future when Addie makes an appearance. When Dylan tells the group that Addie is a teacher, Cherry asks is she would recommend the profession to a friend. Much to everyone’s surprise, Addie tells them no. Although nothing is said, it appears that Grace becomes uncomfortable when Cherry asks Addie to join them. Grace’s discomfort with Addie becomes evident later that night when she throws away a whole bowl of limes and asks Addie to run to the shop and get some replacements.

As time progresses, Krish becomes so comfortable with Addie that he enlists her help to propose to Cherry. As that plays out, Addie’s shortcut turns out to be a nightmare when they encounter a large truck on what appears to be a one-way mountain road. It doesn’t help matters that the driver only speaks Spanish and is carrying a rather angry stud bull. Dylan happens to be the only Spanish speaking member of Addie’s party. The negotiating doesn’t go so well but leads to a flashback of the day that Addie and Dylan help Krish propose to Cherry. When they arrive at the planned proposal spot, Dylan helps Addie back the van into a spot where it will remain unseen.

While Addie helps Dylan set up the proposal spot, she learns that Krish and Cherry have been together for 7 years, almost the same time as Dylan and Grace. It also appears that Addie slightly insults him when she suggests that he likes having his partner, Grace, define their relationship. The debate doesn’t go much further thanks to Dylan mentioning that Krish wants him to discreetly film the proposal. As they set up a hidden camera, Addie learns that Dylan is leaving the following day to return to Bristol so he can start at his father’s firm on Monday.

In the present, Dylan helps Addie back the van down the mountain to a point where the other driver can pass. Before they know it, the gang is back on the road but shortly run out of gas. Lucky for them, they break down close enough to a gas station that they can push the van to the refueling station. Despite the good luck, things immediately change for Dylan at the gas station when he realizes his watch is missing. He makes a big deal of looking for it and makes the entire group hang back for what appears to be a long time to look the watch. As he searches back and forth, Marcus tells Addie that the watch belonged to Dylan’s father, who recently had a heart attack after Dylan quit working for the firm. Although his father turned out to be fine, Dylan came back to run the firm.

The story briefly cuts back to the past to show that Cherry accepts the proposal and while she does, Addie and Dylan make out. In the present, Dylan tells Krish that he is going to be late for the rehearsal but will be no later than tonight. When Krish turns the conversation to Addie, Dylan says he thought that her attending the wedding meant she would want to discuss what happened. Krish tells him Addie is doing whatever she needs to in order to get over what happened and suggests he do the same.

After Dylan ends the phone call, he is immediately joined by Addie, who apologizes for what she said on the ferry. Much to her surprise, he says that he’s never been good at letting things go and needs to get over it like she has.

Marcus and Grace are at the house playing Backgammon, when an excited Cherry shows up to show off her new engagement ring. As the celebrating commences, it doesn’t take Grace long to realize that Dylan has a thing for Addie. By the time he apologizes, Grace has already made plans to leave. Dylan doesn’t waste any time taking advantage of Grace’s absence and approaches Addie.

In the present, Addie and Dylan return to the van to discover Marcus’s message, ‘I wish my girlfriend was this dirty.’ Addie decides to take the van through the car wash and Dylan volunteers to accompany her. This leads to the memory of them getting it on in the van the night Grace left.

The episode ends with Marcus telling Grace that he is happy that she and Dylan decided to be friends. He also tells her that he hasn’t told Dylan what happened between them, yet.

The Road Trip Review

Not a horrible episode, but by no means a superb episode. I did like the bit with the failed shortcut and the way that was overcome. I also knew that Marcus was much more mischievous than he let on. That said, I don’t know if I appreciate how he is using that mischief against his supposed friend. This does, however, add a new conflict to the whole story. Either way, I’m invested to see how this turns out, and for that, I would have to give the episode a 5.6 out of 10.
