Redux – As this episode of The Night Agent begins, Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) chases Colin after the metro bombing one year ago. When Colin (Andre Anthony) makes it home, he is surprised to find Colin in his apartment. Colin doesn’t want Matteo staying there because of everything that is going on right now. He steps into another room to call Wick (Ben Cotton) and tell him about someone stopping the train. Wick reassures him that the VP will take care of it and clean things up. He instructs Colin to lay low for a while. One day, Colin comes home and finds Matteo dead after overdosing.
He switches his wallet. In the present, Colin takes food to Maddie Redfield (Sarah Desjardins). Peter and Rose (Luciane Buchanan) try to convince Chelsea (Fola Evans-Akingbola) and Erik (DB Woodside) that they didn’t take Maddie. Chelsea and Erik learn about Diane Farr being involved in the bombing and Colin being the bomber. Moments later, Chelsea and Monks tell two officers that it was a dead end. Once the cops leave, Chelsea tells Erik that they should listen to them if it gets them closer to finding Colin. They go back to the boat to speak to Rose and Peter about the bombing.
Chelsea refuses to tell Peter who she was guarding at the café and recommends focusing on Worley. Rose says the timing of his death was suspicious so they pulled his file and found out that he used to work for a Turn Lake subsidiary. Peter tells them about the rattlesnake tattoo like the bomber had. Chelsea shows them a sketch of the art professor’s boyfriend that matches Worley’s appearance. Peter says Colin is dead, but Chelsea explains he goes by Matteo now. When Erik checks the birth certificate, he finds out that Colin was a twin. Peter suggests they murdered the wrong twin and says they need to check the next-of-kin address from the autopsy report. If Colin Worley is running around as his twin brother, finding him solves both of their problems.
Maddie creates a video asking her dad to confess to his involvement in the metro bombing. Once she finishes, Colin tells her that there were supposed to be a lot more victims. She tells Colin she is with him because her father deserves everything he is planning. Worley warns her he’ll do what he did to Paulo to her if she doesn’t shut up because they’re not on the same side. Wick and Diane (Hong Chau) watch Maddie’s video. Diane doesn’t think they should show it to Ashley because he will cave to this guy’s demands. He joins them later and says he isn’t holding up well. Ashley (Christopher Shyer) says he is going to do the press conference, but Diane argues it isn’t an option.
Wick promises he has someone looking for the kidnapper. Ashley questions how he knows it is just one kidnapper and why they sent the video only to Wick. Wick tells him that the kidnapper is the guy who did the metro bombing for them. His team got it wrong and neutralized his brother instead. Diane says they’ll do their best to keep Maddie out of harm’s way, but it’ll have to be assessed in the moment. Diane reminds Ashley that they can’t afford to lose him in this fight. She explains that this is for the country so they need to make sure he is going to hold it together no matter what. Once they’re alone, Wick and Diane talk about amending his order to take care of Worley and Maddie.
He says he’ll let her know. While Peter and Rose stay handcuffed in the vehicle, Erik and Chelsea go inside to ask about the PO Box. The woman behind the counter suspects this is about the Redfield girl. They find a letter in the box from the customer because they were late on their rent. The customer must’ve been renting a storage unit from them as well. Peter tells Rose that protecting someone weighs on you, especially when you can’t do it as well as you’d like. They think they owe each other their lives. Chelsea asks Erik if he has a picture of his kid. He shows her and says his daughter has been living with his ex full-time for the past few years.
He hasn’t been able to see her much since rehab, but he is getting to take her camping this summer. Erik says he had to earn seeing her by staying clean and holding a job. He tells Chelsea how he got hooked on pills because of the pain. He goes on to say they do the job to protect the institution and not the president. The woman returns to tell them it is unit J3. After opening the unit, Erik goes outside to release Rose and Peter so they can help search it. Erik wonders what the heck he was building. Rose finds a pay stub for Matteo from Pykemoor Security from a month ago. Erik says he’ll call them. They find a whole dossier on Paulo and information about Maddie as well. Peter hopes Chelsea believes them now. Erik says the owner will answer their questions if he sees his badge in person.
He agrees to go alone since Chelsea wants to stake out the unit in case Colin comes back. Erik ends up taking Rose with him. Maddie finds R142 behind the wall. She hears a train through the hole, but has to hide when Colin returns. He says Ashley hasn’t responded so he must not care whether she lives. Maddie suggests he isn’t even getting the videos. She asks him to record another video and send it directly to her dad’s number. She thinks she can get him to publicly confess. Chelsea tells Peter they’re at Pykemoor Security waiting for them to release Worley’s employment records. Peter asks if she was lying about guarding Maddie on the day of the bombing.
Chelsea claims she wasn’t even on her detail then. Peter thinks he might be able to figure out who Farr and Redfield are targeting if she tells him who she was guarding. Chelsea eventually says Omar Zadar whose code name was Osprey. No one knew he was in the US although he had a secret meeting with someone in the administration at the café from 6 to 9 PM. They suspect the bomber wanted to take out Omar and make it look like he was just another casualty. Chelsea gets a call from Maddie who speaks to her father. She pleads with her dad to make a video confessing to the metro bombing or she’ll be killed in 30 minutes. Chelsea explains it was sent anonymously to her and Maddie tapped on her necklace to send her a message.
They decode the message which says “train, are, one, for, to”. Peter realizes it means train R142. He warns Chelsea not to send that to the White House because they’ll send someone to kill her. They agree to try to find out what this means so they can save Maddie. Meanwhile, Maddie breaks the light in her room. Diane Farr asks Valerie if they got bullet points for the Omar Zadar briefing at three. Ashley checks in with her and says he is fine to attend the meeting which starts in five. Moments later, Diane is told to skip the meeting because the President wants her to focus on the meeting with Representative Watkins. Diane wants five minutes with the President when she is finished.
During the meeting, Ashley complains about the fact they want to use Zadar to push democracy in the region. He calls Omar a terrorist. They take a break. President Travers (Kari Matchett) promises Ashley they’re doing everything they can to bring Maddie home safe and sound. Ashley doesn’t think they should work with Zadar although the President says he is a legitimate politician now. Ashley knows it is her call, but he couldn’t sleep at night without sharing his honest opinion with her. When Travers is asked about Diane, she says she is thinking of a personnel change in the West Wing. Peter and Chelsea try to find out what R142 means. Chelsea tells Peter how they managed to find him and Rose. Erik calls to tell them what companies Worley worked with as a security guard.
Peter finds that they all have warehouses within a mile of the DC container depot. They agree to go there since Worley might be holding Maddie there. Ellen (Eve Harlow) follows Erik when he drives away. Once they get there, Chelsea gives Peter a gun before they climb through the broken fence. Colin gets a message once motion is detected around the shipping container. He grabs a gun and runs towards them. Chelsea tells Peter they’re going to need to split up. Once Erik arrives, he tells Rose to stay in the vehicle. Ellen watches them from her vehicle. Colin makes it to the shipping container and tells Maddie they need to move, but she attacks him and flees.
She hides in another shipping container while Colin continues looking for her. After she leaves, he sees her and begins firing at her again. Erik and Peter take him down while Chelsea comforts Maddie. As they try to leave with Colin, Ellen begins shooting at them from above. She shoots and kills Colin. Peter and the others attempt to escape. Monks ends up getting shot and Maddie gets shot in the leg. Rose climbs up and pushes Ellen off before she falls to her death. Chelsea checks on Monks, but it doesn’t look good for him.
The Night Agent Review
This episode of The Night Agent really wasn’t bad once it finally got moving. The series possibly could’ve been harder-hitting if it had been condensed to six or even eight episodes since the story is a bit slow. The action is usually good although the last few episodes haven’t had many fast-paced scenes like the earlier series did.
The Night Agent has some good points and some low points so there will be a lot of room for improvement in the next season. The series isn’t good enough to be loved, but it is a good time killer for viewers not wanting to think about anything. This episode was better because the action at the end was moderately fun and it moved the story forward with Ellen dead, Colin dead, and Maddie safe.
It really needs to end on a high note though to get viewers excited for the upcoming second season. This episode scores a 6 out of 10. Recaps of The Night Agent can be found on Reel Mockery here. Learn how to support our independent site at this link. Find out more about advertising with us here.
