Fathoms – As this episode of The Night Agent begins, Ellen (Eve Harlow) and Dale (Phoenix Raei) drown a man two years ago. Ellen expected more for her first time. Dale reminds her that they just execute and never judge. Dale wonders if this was too much for her. Ellen kisses him before asking him to teach her everything. When she picks up the man’s ring, Dale tells her to throw it over because it is evidence. She puts it on Dale’s finger and says it belongs to them now. In the present, Dale and Ellen follow Peter and Rose. He says they’re two miles from the White House and they need to make sure that they stay on the right path.
Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) and Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan) discuss what they should tell the President. Peter isn’t going to take Rose in though. The VP wouldn’t be authorized to have pulled her Secret Service detail so someone else at the White House is working with him. Instead, he’ll tell the President what they found. Once she has been briefed, she can help him with protection. Then, Peter tries to find out whether someone is following them. Peter says it is probably a false alarm. Dale tells Ellen they’re going to need a new car. Chelsea Arrington (Fola Evans-Akingbola) continues working to track down Maddie. Erik (DB Woodside) says Maddie doesn’t have time for the lab nerds to break out the test tubes.
Vice President Redfield (Christopher Shyer) is told about Maddie. He suspects she just ran off somewhere. The VP is told about the professor being killed. Peter takes Rose to Cisco (Curtis Lum) who reluctantly cancels his date for them. Peter agrees to leave them his vehicle in case they need to get out of there. He asks Rose not to tell Cisco anything because it’ll be better for both of them. Cisco says his date gave him another chance next week. Erik and Chelsea try to learn more about the professor and what he was doing. He reassures Chelsea that this isn’t her fault. Erik insists you shouldn’t bottle stuff up for this job and it is best to share stuff with your partner.
They notice a bunch of sketches of a man with a snake tattoo on his side. Chelsea thinks she has seen the pattern before in Maddie’s room. She gets word that Ben Almora has arrived. Ben (Enrique Murciano) tells Chelsea to go home and get some rest since the investigation belongs to Erik now. Erik tries to defend her, but Ben says she was in charge and Redfield needs a scalp. Ben eventually agrees to let Chelsea stay although Erik remains in charge of the investigation. At the White House, Valerie (Jessie Liang) walks Peter to Diane’s office since she is tied up right now. Cisco talks to Rose about his date and suggests they double date, but Rose says she and Peter aren’t dating. Cisco reveals they were roommates at Quantico.
Rose has only heard about Zoe and Peter’s dad. Cisco says that is major sharing for Peter. He says things got bad for people and Zoe didn’t stick around. When she asks Cisco about Kevin, he says they won him off their firearm instructor. He tells her how it worked and how they use Kevin for bragging rights. Dale tells Ellen that he was thinking about the baby thing. He admits this life is all violence so it would be nice to have something different and to create a life together. Ellen doesn’t think people like them should get to be parents. Ellen says he can’t even sleep with her properly and now he wants to impregnate her before quickly apologizing. Dale admits it was stupid.
Cisco tells Rose more about his relationship with Peter and dropping out. Chelsea argues with Erik because she believes he took a shot at her with Ben. Erik denies it though and says finding Maddie is all that matters. Erik reminds her that they’re partners. Chelsea says she has always looked after herself and expected the worst from others. She looks through Maddie’s hidden stash and notices a New Leaf pamphlet. A boy invited her to a meeting, but she decided not to go. They find out that Paulo is a leader of New Leaf DC. When they look through pictures of the group, they find the man in the sketch. Diane isn’t happy to learn that Peter didn’t bring Rose with him. She had Val look into Turn Lake after they had spoken.
The private military company does most of its business overseas. Peter says they think the metro bombing is a false flag orchestrated by Turn Lake which blamed the PIF. The data on the hard drive suggests the explosion was meant to take out someone above ground. After he tells her about Chelsea saying she wasn’t protecting Maddie, Diane wonders if she lied to him. Peter learns about Maddie’s abduction. He says Wick wouldn’t have known about Night Action unless someone in the White House told him. Peter is worried about a second attack. Diane wants him to be there when she fills in Travers. He offers to have his friend bring Rose and the drive in, but it must be discreet. Diane wants his trooper friend her drop off at the loading dock so they can use the FDR tunnel.
Once Diane leaves the room, Peter calls Rose to tell her that Farr is in on it. She knows Rose is with a trooper right now. Diane calls Wick to tell him that they know. She suggests arresting Peter until they can find a way to silo him off. He’ll let his team know about Rose Larkin. Peter instructs Rose to destroy her SIM card and meet him at the pier. Dale gets the green light before a car speeds past them. He says it is okay because the tracker still has them. As Peter tries to escape, he finds out that his badge is no longer working before running into Liam. He steals his badge and uses it. Then, he is chased by other agents. Peter hides while the agents search for him and question whether he knows about the tunnels.
Cisco and Rose realize that the killers are following them. Cisco manages to lose them. Peter tries to escape using the tunnels. Cisco suspects they’re tracking Rose using the car so he decides to drop her off. He’ll call for backup and lure them away from her. Dale immediately realizes that she got out. Peter makes it outside while Rose heads for the pier. Cisco calls for help before he is sideswiped by another vehicle. Ellen walks over and shoots him. Dale goes after Rose and a struggle begins. Peter arrives and tackles him. He yells for Rose to get out of there. After Rose hits Dale with a stick, he pulls out a gun. Peter grabs it and makes sure he misses. Once they get Dale at gunpoint, Rose wants to shoot him while Peter wants to call the police.
Dale taunts her by saying her aunt was begging by the end. Rose hits him and Peter finds out that his gun is empty so the fight continues. Peter ends up choking and killing him. Rose has to help him up. The VP meets Diane who wants to use Maddie’s kidnapping to their advantage because Peter and Rose are onto him. Diane argues that they need a diversion, but Redfield says his daughter isn’t a diversion. Diane claims she is trying to save him. If they can’t silence Peter, they’ll need to discredit him. Ellen runs out into the water to collect Dale’s body. Rose tells Peter what Cisco was trying to do and how they were being tracked. They go to a boat owned by a friend of Peter’s dad. Erik tells Ben what they know before he receives the name of the possible suspect.
Diane prepares the VP to speak to the media. Rose takes care of Peter’s wounds. They listen to Ashley speak to the media. Ashley mentions that Peter is a person of interest in Maddie’s disappearance.
The Night Agent Review
The sixth episode of The Night Agent was at least better despite a few eye-rolling moments here and there. Many aspects of the story have been very predictable, including Diane Farr being the traitor and Cisco getting killed. The showdown with Dale wasn’t particularly great, but it is good that the show amped up the action again.
The series is best when it focuses on Peter and Rose and doesn’t try to delve into some complex storylines. It is clear where that relationship is going as well. The Night Agent doesn’t bring a lot new to the table since everything here has been done before, but the action scenes are somewhat enjoyable at least.
The episode scores a 6 out of 10. Recaps of The Night Agent are available on Reel Mockery here. Learn how to support our independent site at this link. Find out more about advertising on Reel Mockery here.
