osferth the last kingdom

As the episode begins, Skade (Thea Sofie Loch Naess) performs a ritual and watches the future. She sees Alfred (David Dawson) being killed in battle. Alfred speaks with Beocca (Ian Hart) about death and his afterlife. Skade takes the information to her lover Bloodhair (Ola Rapace). Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon) helps Edward (Timothy Innes) train. It is clear that Aethelwold (Harry McEntire) is not a fan of Edward. He speaks with Edward about him getting a woman pregnant. A priest tells Uhtred that his wife is pregnant with a baby boy. Haesten (Jeppe Beck Laursen) tells Alfred and the others about Bloodhair.

Uhtred remains suspicious of Haesten. He encourages Alfred to attack Bloodhair before he can strike first. Uhtred learns about Skade. Meanwhile, Bloodhair and his men raid a town. Uhtred speaks to Gisela. He learns that she is indeed pregnant. Uhtred teams up with Sihtric (Arnas Fedaravicius), Finan (Mark Rowley) and his men. They travel towards the raided town. Skade harasses the local priests. She demands their silver, but they have none to give. Instead, she tortures them for fun. Soon, Bloodhair leaves her alone at her request. Aldhelm (James Northcote) speaks to Aethelred (Toby Regbo) about teaming up with Alfred and fighting Bloodhair.

Aethelred has no interest in helping. Aethelflaed (Millie Brady) decides to go along with Aldhelm. Osferth (Ewan Mitchell) is sent to distract the Danes. Soon, Uhtred and his men attack. Skade is captured and taken hostage. She puts a curse on Uhtred. Osferth doesn’t believe it, but Finan and Sithric do. Alfred changes his mind. He doesn’t want to strike first. He speaks with Skade and learns that he will not see another summer. He is told that he will be the first and last king of all Saxons. Uhtred decides to use Skade to lure Bloodhair. It works. Uhtred tries to strike a deal with him for some hostages. Uhtred and Alfred use the change to set a trap for the Danes. Skade tells Uhtred that their future is intertwined.

She tells him that he cannot leave her now and that she is going to need a woman. Uhtred and his men manage to trap Bloodhair. When Alfred arrives with his men, Bloodhair runs for it. Skade is surprised to see him go. Uhtred and the others return to Winchester to celebrate. Hild (Eva Birthistle) tells Uhtred that he has a son. However, his wife has passed away. Uhtred visits her grave as the episode comes to an end.

The Last Kingdom Review

At first, I thought the Skade character was a bit cheesy. Maybe it is. Nevertheless, I soon found myself ensnared by The Last Kingdom again. I enjoyed the episode and hope it continues getting better from here on out. Uhtred is potentially cursed and there is a good chance that he is going to hook up with Skade. Will Bloodhair be a formidable enemy? Or maybe he was just a distraction? I can’t wait to see where things go from here.

The episode was pretty good. An 8 out of 10 is deserved. Catch up with previous recaps of The Last Kingdom right now!
