As the 6th episode begins, Bea (Thaddea Graham) and Leopold (Harrison Osterfield) discuss their recent tryst and both admit they enjoyed it. They joke about the duration of intercourse before hiding when John Watson (Royce Pierreson) walks by. They enter the medical clinic and find out that each patient is missing something such as a left eye and right eye. One of the patients has a hole in his stomach and Bea can’t understand how he isn’t dead. Leo reads the notes and finds out that the victims arrived at the hospital with their wounds fully healed and minimal blood loss. We see a flashback of Sherlock (Henry Lloyd-Hughes) and his partners working on the case of the collector.

Bea realizes the collector has returned. After the intro, she returns to the others to tell them about the case and that there have been other victims. Leo believes the collector’s power must’ve stopped when the rip closed for the first time. Now that a new rip has opened, they’ve continued. Billy (Jojo Macari) isn’t happy that they don’t have a plan. Bea believes they need to follow the case because Watson is interested in it, but Spike (McKell David) suggests Jessie can go back into her nightmares and find the rip. Jessie (Darci Shaw) doesn’t want to do it and reminds everyone that they don’t know what it is like. Spike calms everyone down and they begin discussing the Snowdonia Hawkweed.

Bea says they should start with Edith Dubois (Anna Maxwell Martin) since she is an expert in it. Leo agrees to get her address before Billy tries to exclude himself from the investigation. When Billy storms off, Leo encourages Bea to go after him. Jessie decides she isn’t going either because she is upset with Spike for encouraging her to find the rip in her nightmare. Spike tries to explain himself but she isn’t willing to listen. Bea stops Billy and they eventually sit down for a chat. He tells her about his mother and her real profession. Billy wants to hurt Vic but Bea tries to convince him not to. She gives him advice before telling him they need him. Leo tries to reach the town hall but sees something that makes him go in the opposite direction.

He goes to the pub and is promptly confronted by Daimler (Edward Hogg). Leo tells Daimler that he is armed and Daimler doesn’t doubt it. Leo explains he has friends there now but Daimler reminds him they don’t know he is Prince of England. Leo says he’ll no longer be a prince if he is taken back to the palace. He’ll refuse to cooperate and even speak to his mother. He soon finds out that his mom still doesn’t know he is gone. When guards show up, Leo threatens to tell his mother how negligent Daimler has been. Leopold says he’ll do as he pleases and Daimler can do nothing about it before storming out of the pub. Seconds later, Jessie catches Sherlock trying to find his drugs and scares him. She admits she doesn’t want to be there but doesn’t have a choice.

She explains she needs his help. Meanwhile, Spike, Billy, Bea, and Leopold visit Edith at 11 Colebrook Gardens. They find the window broken so someone beat them there and Bea accuses Watson. They go inside and find the place wrecked. Billy finds a diary and reads entries about Edith’s husband getting sick with a disease. She planned to render him comatose and move him somewhere safe to keep his body cool and preserve him. She intended to use nature to recraft him and bring him back. This leads them to believe Edith is the collector. Bea remembers Sherlock talking about the plant growing on a single cliff face on a mountain in North Wales. They wonder why Watson is desperate and why he said the hawkweed was a dead end when it wasn’t.

Bea says they need to go get some answers. As they leave, Bea tells Leo she was thinking they could spend five minutes together tonight. She is worried that they might not come back this time, but Leo says they will. They share a romantic moment while Jessie tries to get Sherlock to help her. They get into a spat over Jessie using curse words before Sherlock asks what she sees in her nightmares. She tells him about being in a cavern under the earth somewhere and dead bodies being in it. Then, she described the creatures wearing black robes and masks with long cone-shaped noses. He believes they’re plague doctors since they wore masks like that during the black death. She is shown a picture and confirms that is it.

Meanwhile, Billy and the others visit the heat botanist’s nursery. We see Edith (Anna Maxwell Martin) working on her husband’s body. Bea says it is over. Edith agrees because her husband is ready. She prepares to wake her husband from the coma using a serum. Edith reveals her husband was a surgeon and saved lives. She can’t believe God made him ill while rapists and murders walk around in good health. She injects her husband with the serum. Sammy wakes up and begins moving. He lifts up and falls back to the table. Edith can’t believe it didn’t work. Bea approaches Edith and tells her it is over. Sherlock tells Jessie to go to each plague pit to see if she can sense anything. She tells him about the circles in her dreams but Sherlock says he doesn’t know and doesn’t want it in his head.

She tells him she can’t go back into her nightmares. Sherlock admits he held Alice’s hand when she went through them. Jessie says she just wants it to be over. Sherlock thinks about it and says there is a plague pit underneath the London Library and the reading room is called the Circle Room. He offers to take her there. Edith admits she should’ve collected more body parts but Bea asks her about John Watson. Bea says they won’t take her to the police if Edith tells them what she knows. Spike doesn’t like that idea though but Bea says it doesn’t matter as long as they out about Watson. Billy tells her they can’t do that. Edith says Bea must hate him as much as she does. She thought they were there to save him. Billy checks a room nearby and finds Watson tied to a chair.

Meanwhile, Sherlock and Jessie go to the London Library to look around. Sherlock uses a compass because he says it’ll go crazy when near the rip. He admits it feels good to be out and about again. He encourages her to cherish being a part of the team because it doesn’t last forever. They enter the circle room Sherlock seems upset when things do not work out and says forget it before storming out. Bea doesn’t untie Watson and tells Edith that they want to know about Watson. She agrees to tell them. Edith says she tried everything to help Sammy and eventually turned to the occult. In a flashback, Sherlock talks to a group about making contact with the dead. Watson gets upset and walks away.

The maid tells him that someone is at the door for Sherlock. He goes there and is promptly introduced to Edith. Watson tries to blow her off until she claims she has found a way to reach the other side. She got her hands on a relic of sorts. Before long, she shows it to Watson. He offers to take it away and test its authenticity. When Edith checks on Sammy, Watson tries to leave with the relic but she tries to stop him. She warns him that there is great danger in using the tool. He says he’ll be in touch before leaving. Back in the present Edith says Watson never did stay in touch. Instead, Watson tried to use the relic. Edith later tried to use the spirit board to reach out for help, but something had changed. She says she suddenly had the power to understand plants on the molecular level.

She began working to save Sammy by rebuilding him. Watson visited her later because of the hawkweed. She tells Watson what she is doing and that he’ll need to tell Sherlock he is wrong because she knows what he did. She threatens to tell them that he blew a hole inside of the universe with the relic. Bea now knows it was Watson who opened the rip that killers her mother. He says he thought they could keep the monsters under control and it would buy him time to find a way to close the rip. He apologizes for Alice and Bea admits she can’t believe it was him. He claims it wasn’t him this time and that he threw the relic in the Thames. Watson swears he is telling the truth before Edith tells everyone not to move.

She threatens to drop the vial and kill everyone. Meanwhile, Sherlock tells Jessie to look around because the streets are becoming wild. He claims he isn’t who he used to be and that is why he can’t help her. She claims he is just afraid. Sherlock fires back by saying she is too afraid to find the answers in her visions. He says it is pathetic and she could stop a lot of suffering if she had an iota of bravery in her. Jessie says she didn’t need him to be brilliant and only wanted him to fight with her. They hear shooting in the distance and Sherlock encourages her to get off of the street because it isn’t safe. Edith explains what she wants to do. Watson warns her that both of them tried to play God and they learned it is a terrible price to pay.

She claims she is God and she must make the innocent suffer for the greater good sometimes. She doesn’t like it when Bea suggests there is no way to bring her husband back. Edith prepares to drop the vial before her husband begins moving. Watson encourages Edith to stay away from Sammy as Sammy tries to find out why she brought him back. Edith is told that she trapped her husband in there for 15 years. He gets mad because she stole his death from him and begins choking her. Watson pleads with Bea to help him and she eventually does. Sammy finishes off Edith before they run for it. Sammy tells Bea to leave and she does. Sammy takes the deadly vial and drinks it. Meanwhile, Jessie gets a visit from the linen man (Clarke Peters) who says he is only hours away now.

She admits she doesn’t feel like she is fighting with her friends as Sherlock did. He tells her that her friends do not understand her because she has outgrown them. The linen man says she has become something special and powerful. Jessie believes Bea understands and would never make her do something she doesn’t want to do. Meanwhile, Bea tells the other that they can’t stop trying. She says the rip is getting bigger and there is one other way. She goes searching for Jessie and finds Daimler in the cellar. He says he has information for her. Spike tells Billy that people know something bad is happening. Billy apologizes for being out of order the other night. When Spike steps away, Billy finds blood nearby and Vic approaches him.

Leopold returns to Bea who demands to know who he is. Billy tries to get Vic to leave him alone but Vic ends up attacking him. Beatrice gets upset with Leo for lying and putting all of them in danger. He says he never had a friend his entire life and they wouldn’t give him a chance if he told the truth. She wants him to go and blames herself for letting him in. She tells him she never wants to see him again before leaving. Vic wants Billy to fight him. He tells Billy he gave him that name and he made him strong. Vic tells Billy he taught him how to fight and he wants him to fight him now. Billy eventually relents and gives Vic a beating. A stranger says he is dead and calls for the police. Jess returns and tells Bea about her day with Sherlock.

She admits Sherlock wasn’t interested in helping and is no longer what he used to be. Bea admits he has a point because Jessie can go deeper and figure out so all of this crap can disappear. She tells Jessie she is the only one who can stop all of this and she only needs to go deeper into her nightmares. Jessie can’t believe Bea would try to get her to do it. She gets angry and leaves in a hurry. Sherlock prepares to use drugs but stops when he looks at the plague mask. Leo returns to the palace and tells Daimler that he wins. He enters his room and closes the door behind him. Jessie walks alone while Billy sits in jail. Jessie walks the streets and finds a bunch of bodies on the ground. She spots a crashed ship and someone next to her says they’re dead. The linen man shows up behind her and they embrace.

He can’t believe she hasn’t found the rip and says she is too afraid. She believes they can fix it now that he has arrived, but he admits he doesn’t want to close it. He removes the butterfly tattoo from her arm and puts her into one of the nightmares. She notices a plague doctor moving towards her as the episode ends.

 

The Irregulars Review

There are likely errors above because it is late and I generally just lost interest midway through the episode. I am not 100% sure why but I think it has something to do with the fact that there is too much going on. I thought the conclusion for the collector was interesting and fairly satisfying.

However, the route it took to get there was cluttered and messy. The characters went in too many directions so I had a tough time remaining interested in all of them. At times, it feels like the relationship between Bea and Leopold is legit. Other times, it feels forced.

I hope things get better with the finale getting closer. At the very least, I’d like to see a satisfactory, fulfilling ending for the season since I doubt there will be another.
