As the episode begins, Zoe (Luca Asta Sardelis) and Andy (Alex Cusack) have cyber sex of sorts. Both play with themselves on camera. When the event ends abruptly, we see that Andy has recorded Zoe. After the intro, Nassim (Yazeed Daher) is awoken by his father Rami (Rodney Afif). They speak about flowers before Nassim asks his father about girls. He has a girl he likes but he hasn’t been able to pull the trigger just yet. Next, Andy gets onto the school bus. He locks eyes with Zoe before harassing a kid and sitting down with Nassim. Andy puts pressure on Nassim to make his move with the girl he likes.
Nassim gives his buddy his lunch as well. Ray (Sam Reid) arrives at work. He takes the principal’s parking spot without realizing it. The assistant principal Eliza (Jessica De Gouw) catches up with him but says nothing about the parking space. Amandip (Kavitha Anandasivam) and Nassim chat in the classroom. Nassim tries to make his move but ends up holding a phone with a penis picture on it. The kids harass Jack since it is his picture on the phone. He pleads with Nassim to give him the cellphone before Ray gets involved. Ray and Eliza prepare to speak with the principal about the situation.
Principal De Rossi (Pamela Rabe) arrives late and is angry to see Ray parked in her spot. She is surprised to see Jack Ryder fleeing from the school. The principal joins Ray and Eliza a short time later. She learns that the picture wasn’t on Jack’s phone. It was on Yolanda’s. Ray doesn’t like the idea but the principal decides to get the cops involved. She is just going with standard protocols. Simone (Asher Keddie) tries on a new dress that her husband Nick (Richard Roxburgh) bought her. Rosie (Isabel Burmester) tries to help her zip it up but it doesn’t work. Simone ends up wearing something else. She meets up with her husband for drinks.
They share a few drinks before heading to the school to speak with Andy’s teacher. The teacher is worried that Andy might be spending too much time playing football. Nick does a good job explaining things to Mr. Templeton (Bradley Trent Williams). When they leave, they run across Zoe. She drops her bag so Andy picks it up for her before continuing on his way. Zoe’s two mothers complain about the school’s dress code for girls and suggest Zoe put in a complaint. Zoe is asked if she wants to stay with her dad, Sam (Nathan Page), for the night. She tries to convince them that she’ll be just fine. She does to his place and spends time along on the Internet.
Nassim has dinner with the girl he likes and her parents. It is clear that they’re very strict. Ravneet (Leah Vandenberg) and her husband bicker back and forth about power cords while trying to decorate for their anniversary. Amandip and Nassim spend time in her room together. They speak about going to the beach the following day. Dip would be required to lie to her parents to make that possible. Meanwhile, Eliza and Ray spend time at the pub together. They check out possible matches for Ray. Then, they go back to Eliza’s place and have sex. Eliza gives him a little something extra in the backside. After sex, he tells her about dad being a teacher.
He believes that students will not remember what you tell them. They’ll only remember who you are. He also tells her that a girl at his previous school fell for him so he left without reporting her. The guys pester Andy in the locker room the following day and tell him that Zoe is annoying. They find her protesting the dress code and he prepares to join in. However, he stops when he notices another boy already dressed inappropriately nearby. Andy goes to his mother’s work place and finds her flirting with her colleague Robert. He complains that she is flirting but she denies it. Nassim and Dip arrive at the beach.
They have a good time and get to know each other a little better. Back at home, Simone tells Nick about her encounter with Andy and being accused of flirting. Nick admits he has noticed how Robert and his wife look at one another. He is confident that look would allow Simone to have any man she wants. Andy browses the Internet and contemplates uploading Zoe’s picture like his friends told him to. Later that night, Dip sends nude pictures to Nassim. On the bus the following day, Nassim tries to tell Andy about yesterday. Andy refuses to believe it without seeing pictures. One Nassim gets off the bus, he reluctantly sends Dip’s pictures to Andy and their dispute is ended.
Later, Dip’s father finds the swimsuit. He becomes very angry that his daughter lied to him. Nassim manages to escape while Dip explains that her father would have said no if she asked to go. She never admits to going to the beach with Nassim. The following day, Ray learns that Dip is going to be late for school. Nassim is messing around on his phone. Ray catches him with the photo of Dip on his phone and speaks with him after class. Ray agrees to keep the phone for the day and keep his secret. However, he makes Nassim delete the photo. When Nassim gets home, his father isn’t happy that he has been ignoring his phone. Nassim tells him that it was Ray’s idea and an attempt to get his grades up.
Meanwhile, Amanda (Elena Carapetis), Jada (Anna Lindner II), and Zoe joke around about things at home. Jada convinces Zoe to go to the pool. There, they run into Andy. Zoe and Andy have a brief conversation that does not go well. Andy goes home and uploads the naughty picture of Zoe to the Internet. Ray gets a message on Nassim’s phone. It is from friends who are talking about how hot Dip is. He gets more messages and tries to ignore them. Ray looks up the website online and finds a bunch of pictures of young school girls. The picture of Dip has been uploaded.
The Hunting Review
The Hunting has a lot going for it. The cast is superb. You’ve got Richard Roxburgh, Asher Keddie, Pamela Rabe, Sam Reid, and the others. At the same time, the show touches on a subject that is relevant right now. Too many people are willing to send naughty pictures without thinking about the consequences. I felt that the opener was a little slow though. I wish it would speed up a bit. However, it should get better from here on out.
I enjoyed the opener but I wish it was a little faster. The episode scores a 7 out of 10.
