At the beginning of the 2nd episode, the Durrells experience a disaster at home. A portion of their floor comes crashing down and they simply do not have the money to pay for the repair. Margo (Daisy Waterstone) is told to fetch Spiros (Alexis Georgoulis), but she refuses to leave the house, since Max (Maximilian Befort) is coming over soon. Lawrence (Josh O’Connor) reminds her that Max is coming to visit him and not her. Louisa (Keeley Hawes) speaks with Spiros on her own. She tells him about their money being tied up at the bank and being unable to pay for the repair. Later that night, Max and Donald (Ben Hall) visit the Durrells house.
Ben and Max speak with Lawrence. Margo struts downstairs and tries to entice Max to stay behind with her, but he refuses. Ben offers to remain behind, but Margo turns down his offer. The next day, Theo (Yorgos Karamihos) visits Gerald (Milo Parker) and tells him about another local, who has 6 new puppies. Louisa insists they cannot take anymore pets. Margo meets up with Lawrence and his friends in town. Unfortunately, she makes a fool of herself. She returns home moments later and is comforted by her mother. Leslie’s (Callum Woodhouse) relationship with Alexia (Hara-Joy Ermidi) continues to strengthen, while Margo falls apart.
In the morning, Louisa tries to clean up the kitchen. She discovers a picture of her ex-husband and becomes angered by the fact that it is now broken. She screams at her children and tells them to get outside and start foraging. Lawrence and his friends wake up on a nearby beach, after a night of drinking. During this time, Gerald pays a visit to Mama Kondos (Olga Damani). He asks her about the puppies. The woman agrees to give him puppies soon, but insists they need their mother now. Gerald is hugged and praised by the local women. Next, Louisa meets with Florence Petridis (Lucy Black).
Louisa asks the woman for advice for surviving in Corfu. Meanwhile, Leslie goes foraging, while also hunting. Louisa tells Florence about her past life and her reason for relocating. After getting a meal and drink, Louisa leaves. She passes by a local on her way home. Leslie and Alexia enjoy a beak. Gerald returns home with berries, while Margo returns with a stolen farm sign. After things settle down, a local woman arrives with two puppies. Louisa has no choice, but to take them inside. Louisa seems to quickly become fond of the animals. Lawrence returns home with his friends by his side. Once Max and Donald depart, Lawrence gets into an argument with his mother. Lawrence grabs the shotgun with the intention of going hunting. He heads out, fires a shot and winds up getting himself injured.
During this time, everyone gives Margo advice for stealing Max’s heart. Unfortunately, their advice is widely different and somewhat ridiculous. Gerald tells his mother that he is going to return one of the puppies and swap it out. While Gerald is away, Lawrence falls ill. He is rushed to Florence’s place, since her husband is a doctor. Of course, he is out of town. Theo enters and agrees to help. He rushes off to get help and supplies, while Gerald returns to Mama Kondos. He finds that the woman is preparing to bury the other puppies alive. Gerald grabs the puppies and takes them all home. Gerald returns home and discovers a note about Lawrence. He rushes to the clinic.
At this time, Sven (Ulric von der Esch) arrives at the clinic with Theo. They perform the surgery together. Max and Donald arrive at the clinic. Margo changes her tactics and speaks with Donald, while ignoring Max. Gerald arrives moments later. The surgery is eventually completed. Louisa speaks with Sven and thanks him for his help. He insists anyone would’ve done the same. She is invited to visit him at a later date. Gerald informs his mother that he has been forced to take all 6 puppies. She tells him that he’ll need to give several of them away and also insists Spiros will take one. Spiros speaks with Louisa and tells her she is a good mother. He leaves and visits the bank to get the family’s money. Max and Donald visit Lawrence.
Thanks to the boys and their loud antics, Lawrence finally wakes up. Spiros returns with an envelope of money for the family. Louisa tells Lawrence that some of the money was paid for his short story. He reminds his mother that he is now a proper writer. Gerald gives his sister more advice. However, Margo has become convinced she should just give up on love forever. Louisa visits Sven and attempts to give him money for his services. He tells her that she has ruined the moment. Back at home, Louisa comforts her daughter. Meanwhile, Alexia becomes angered at Leslie. We see that Sven and Spiros have taken in a puppy each.
Louisa and the family prepares to have dinner in the water. Lawrence, who is now in a wheelchair, is unable to join them. Max and Donald arrive in a boat. Margo is encouraged to swim out and join them. She hesitates at first, but eventually swims out and boards the boat. The family nearly drowns, before Louisa becomes concerned that her daughter may not return.
The Durrells In Corfu Review
The second episode of The Durrells was just as upbeat and lighthearted as the first. The tables turned this episode as Leslie potentially ruined his relationship with Alexia. Margo and Louisa may have finally found potential candidates of their own. Lawrence fell ill and the family rallied around him. Despite the dysfunctional nature of the Durrells, it is clear that they’re a family that actually cares about one another.
And of course, the locals have been very inviting. The episode was good. A 7.5 out of 10 is deserved. Catch up with other recaps of The Durrells in Corfu now!
