Timothy tells Doug and Leonora Boggs (Christy Meyer) that they should celebrate, but there are a few loose ends that must be considered. Damian Richardson (Ben Hall) asks Bianca Pullman (Lashana Lynch) what she’s doing, but she just ignores his questions. Bianca speaks to Isabel Kirby (Lia Williams) about Jimmy Tejero in private. He’s a small time lowlife killed in Spain. Bianca thinks the same killer is responsible for UDC and Tejero. Isabel says the case is closed. She reminds Bianca that she failed and should find another job if she can’t accept that. Isabel tells her to take some time out and maybe even permanently. Isabel says he quits. Then, Isabel joins Foreign Secretary Jeremy Whitelock (Adam James) who says people are still protesting to demand justice for UDC. They’ve given them a bloody nose so their plan worked. When Jeremy asks about Bianca, Isabel says she shut her down.

Jeremy says their friends want to make sure the Jackal is apprehended by someone simpatico if he is captured. Isabel doesn’t think Bianca is simpatico. Jeremy wants Bianca to deal with him and they’ll deal with her. The Jackal crashes his car while trying to avoid a boy on the road. Nuria picks up Alvaro (Jon Arias) when he’s released. Outside, Nuria warns Alvaro this will be the last time he puts her family at risk. He believes Charles did this. Nuria never wants to see Alvaro again. When Alvaro calls Charles a psycho, Nuria says that psycho saved his life. She calls Alvaro a parasite. A Croatian man finds the Jackal stuck in his car which is upside-down. The motorist (Andrej Dojkic) helps him out and says he called the police. The Jackal holds him at gunpoint and takes the keys to his truck. A woman nearby is also calling the police. The car conveniently blows up seconds later. Paul Pullman (Sule Rimi) speaks to Bianca after class. She asks him to come home because she’s left her job.

Bianca lies and claims she’s selected her family. Paul asks what she’ll do instead. Bianca claims she’ll stay at home and support him for a change. She admits she doesn’t have all the answers, but she just wants her husband back. The Jackal drives to a dead end where he treats his wounds and changes his appearance. He strikes a lighter and throws it into the truck causing a fire. Then, he pushes the truck over the cliff nearby. The Jackal watches a couple near two caravans. He puts on a ring and approaches them. He speaks to Liz (Michelle Newell) and Trevor (Philip Jackson). He tries to convince them he’s not feeling well. The Jackal claims his wife is back in Saffron Walden and she doesn’t want him to drive himself. He asks if they could take him there. Trevor agrees to drive him there. Bianca hangs out with Paul and Jasmine (Florisa Kamara) at home. Isabel visits Bianca at home.

The Jackal rides with Liz and Trevor. He pulls out a gun and says they’re going to head to the Montenegro border instead of the hospital. The Jackal says he’s about 79 minutes away. Liz and Trevor soon find out that he has a gun. Isabel tells Bianca there may be a way to reopen the case and reach a conclusion. She asks Bianca to follow the lead and finish the job. Isabel says it should happen as soon as possible and it has to be an unsanctioned operation. Bianca must eliminate him. Bianca says no. The Jackal and the others reach the border. He asks Trevor to take the road on the right when they start moving. Once the campervan stops, Trevor asks if he can go out for a smoke. He offers The Jackal one as well. Trevor asks if he’s going to kill them. The Jackal says no. He begins talking about his parents who were nice people. Trevor asks where he came from if they were so nice. Once they return to the campervan, the Jackal says it’s time for bed.

Liz stabs him in the back with a knife. Then, Trevor begins fighting with him. The Jackal ends up shooting Trevor in the stomach or chest area before firing another shot. He fatally shoots Liz as well. Bianca tells her family that no one in there can do what she does. Bianca and Jasmine agree that Isabel is an idiot. Paul tells Bianca she should just go because she’s going to anyway. He doesn’t want her to drag it out. Bianca considers going back. The Jackal calls Nuri to say they’re going to go on holiday. He says he promised this was the last job and it’s done. Nuri just wants to be home. The Jackal still wants to take her somewhere. Nuri suspects he’s not safe. The Jackal says he just wants to be the three of them. She says they can talk about it when he gets home. Meanwhile, Bianca joins Vince Pyne (Nick Blood) in Cadiz, Spain. She explains that their operation is completely under the radar. Vince asks what’ll happen if he’s not there. Bianca believes he’s there or someone important to him is. The Jackal walks away from the camper in the morning and it blows up.

Without explanation, the Jackal ends up on a bus for the Balkan Bird Tours. Bianca and Vince speak to Detective Remacha who says there was a person with Tejero when he was killed. They determined he was not involved so they released him. Vince says they just want his name. Detective Remacha says his name is Alvaro Gonzales Martin. She also gives them a picture of him. His sister is married to a rich man named Charles Calthrop. The Jackal reaches a computer so he can ask for payment to be delivered in 24 hours. Zina Jansone (Eleanor Matsuura) calls Leonora to say he’s made contact and he wants his money. Leonora asks if the Jackal ever mentioned Spain. Zina says no. She is told to stay on-site until they have specifics for her next job. A man calling himself Simon will make contact in the next few hours. Bianca and Vince keep an eye on Nuri from nearby. She says they’ll wait like the Jackal would.

Bianca is adamant they’re going to take him alive even though that wasn’t part of their plan. Vince can’t change her mind. Nuri goes inside the house and begins packing money and clothing. Simon (Kornel Simon) calls Zina moments later. He agrees to meet her at the motel, but she’s actually in the bar nearby. Zina leaves when Simon enters the elevator. Jasmine messages Bianca to say she’s missing her. A vehicle reaches the property seconds later. Bianca and Vince try to find out whether it’s the Jackal. Nuri takes the baby in the taxi. Bianca believes Nuri is running away from the Jackal. The Jackal picks up a vehicle. He eventually arrives at home and Bianca spots him. Once the Jackal goes inside, Bianca and Vince go in. The Jackal realizes that Nuria is already gone. He receives a call from Zina who warns him they’re coming for him in Spain. The Jackal goes to his hidden room and finds some of the money missing.

He begins packing his stuff while Bianca and Vince move in. Alvaro enters the house and tells Nuri they should talk. When he turns on the light, he sees Bianca and Vince. He is shot. The Jackal hears the shooting and prepares his gun. He closes the door to his room. Bianca stands on one side of the wall and the Jackal stands on the other. He sees her although she doesn’t see him. Bianca returns to Vince and says there’s no sign of him. She decides to flush him out by turning on the alarm. When Vince sees a laser dot on Bianca’s head, he quickly knocks her out of the way. While Vince is out, Bianca and the Jackal exchange gunfire. Once the shots stop, Bianca says no one else has to die. She just wants to who he is working for. She calls him Duggan. Bianca says she does it because she likes to win. The Jackal says he likes to win as well. Bianca says she saw her leave and it doesn’t have to end this way. The Jackal says otherwise before shooting Bianca who falls to the ground.

Vince remains on the ground and Bianca is possibly dead. Nuri goes to Jerez Airport and throws her phone in the garbage. The Jackal leaves her a message threatening to find her. A car crashes into his vehicle. Next, Isabel tells Osita Halcroew (Chukwudi Iwuji) that it’s been confirmed she’ll be taking over as chief. They’re also bringing in a new head for 303. Osita says they’ve lost two officers. Isabel claims Bianca went rogue so she’s responsible for her death. She also says Bianca and Vince wouldn’t give up no matter what. Osita isn’t sure that’s a bad thing. When Osita reaches his desk, he has a message from Bianca saying Isabel sent her to take out the Jackal. He deletes the message. The Jackal is shown alive and well. He joins Zina who asks how he survived that. She shows him a newspaper picture of Timothy and says she knows he doesn’t like unpaid debt.

The Jackal says there’s someone he must find first.

The Day Of The Jackal Review

The finale of The Day Of The Jackal at the very least had two character deaths although those deaths really didn’t seem to matter in the long run. Vince was a minor side character. As for Bianca, the series obviously isn’t going to be hurt by her absence. Otherwise, the finale had far too many eye-rolling moments that ended up making the whole thing feel silly.

At the beginning of the episode, the Jackal drove up to the Croatian police checkpoint with his windows rolled up. Nevertheless, he was talking to the cops in English and they were trying to respond in Croatian. His whole attitude at the time would’ve been a clear sign to get out of the way of his vehicle.

When he met Liz and Trevor, he told them there was a hospital about 15 minutes away. Anyone who knows people with RVs and campervans will agree that most rarely travel further than an hour. Most stay within a 30-mile radius and visit the same locations. Liz and Trevor would’ve known there wasn’t a hospital 15 minutes away. If they didn’t, they could’ve found out using a smartphone.

After all, it’s quite odd to be approached by a man in the middle of nowhere. It’s awfully convenient for that to happen anyway. Bianca’s dialogue in this episode was pretty corny. Isabel probably delivered one of the most truthful lines of the series when she told Bianca she should find another job. It’s just a shame that didn’t happen within the first 15 minutes and the whole Bianca sideshow could’ve been avoided entirely.

Bianca also told Paul and Jasmine that no one in the office could do what she does. In that sense, she’s correct given the number of times her failures have been ignored by her superiors. It would be best to use mind-altering drugs before watching The Day of the Jackal. Otherwise, it’ll become a game of picking holes in the silly plot, Bianca’s constant failures, and the Jackal’s laughable mistakes.

For starters, the MI5 has been secretly collecting vast amounts of data about UK phone calls to search for terrorists. Second, these cities where the Jackal constantly kills in the open have tons of CCTV cameras. Third, using the dark web in an Internet café is never a good idea. Internet cafes just aren’t that common anymore, but the Jackal seems to find one around every corner.

Furthermore, killing UDC wouldn’t completely stop the risk of River. Once the software is made, it certainly isn’t going away and a foreign adversary could easily steal that software or replicate it. That leads us to another idiotic move by Timothy Winthrop who just put a bull’s eye on his back by not paying The Jackal.

Then, we have the idea of sending Bianca and two or three experts to every raid just like the finale when it was Bianca and Vince. The Day of the Jackal could’ve been so much better with a strong script. It’s really a blown opportunity to get this cast together only to give them a lackluster script that is full of illogical moments and excessively drawn-out personal scenes.

The series would be better if 50% or more of it is skipped and that includes the finale. The Day of the Jackal recaps can be found here. Find out how to support our independent site at this link. Learn more about advertising with us here. Join the discussion here.

  1. Luther says:

Kind of meh in the end. The Jackal goes around killing innocent bystanders one after the other and gets in accident after accident even being stabbed in the back only to just walk away. He’ll get renewed for as long as people watch… and never face justice or consequence. If there’s no chance the jackal ever is in real danger or will never be caught the concept gets boring really quickly.

    • ReelMockery says:

Yep. That’s the problem when they immediately renew a show like this. Any risk of a character death vanishes. Sure, Bianca might be dead but that changes very little in the long run. As for the Jackal, he’s made enough mistakes at this point that he would’ve already been caught or killed. They might as well just throw out any logical and let him go guns blazing. No sense in trying to walk a fine line between authenticity and unrealistic fun.
