The Conspiracy is a conspiracy theory mocumentary that debuted on September 20, 2012 at the Fantastic Fest Film Festival.
Jim (James Gilbert) and Aaron (Aaron Poole) were filmmakers that decided to get together and do a documentary on the conspiracy theorist, Terrance “T-Rex” (Alan C. Peterson), who believed that Americans were not free, only under the illusion of freedom.
Terrance had a large collection of newspaper clippings of major events that had taken place in the United States. He used them to form a time sequence that he compared to the meeting dates of the secret society, Tarsus Club. Terrance also believed the secret society king was the federal reserve, central banking system of the United States. He took his time board and his beliefs to the streets to let others know the truth and he was willing to do that at whatever means necessary.
After filming him for an unknown time period, T-Rex went missing. Aaron and Jim called the local hospitals, police department, and fire department, to no avail. He also had no family to speak of and could not be traced.
Aaron begins to investigate Terrance’s disappearance and conspiracies, by using the same newspaper clippings and began to connect the dots. Jim was skeptical of T-Rex, whom he thought was mentally unstable and had disappeared per his own accord. Before his disappearance, he became paranoid and thought that he was being followed by a man on a bicycle. Aaron was now beginning to notice that the same man was also following him and his apartment was broken into. Although things were in disarray, when Aaron arrived home, his sequence board was untouched.
Aaron and Jim set up a private meeting with Mark Tucker (Bruce Clayton), who was a journalist for Time magazine. He had written an article about the secret society and they wanted to find out what he knew about Tarsus Club. Mark set up a meeting for Aaron and Jim with the caretaker of the grounds where the Tarsus club is known to meet. He quietly sneaks them into a Tarsus meeting, which they were secretly filming. They pass the initiation process and become members of the Tarsus club, then things start to go awry.
Will Aaron and Jim make it out of the ritual alive or will they meet their fate, just like Terrance before them?
Review
Conspiracy is mockumentary that focuses on many different conspiracy theories especially the Tarsus Club. The writer and director, Christopher MacBride did a very good job with the filming and editing of the movie. It is very obvious, after watching the film, that he put a lot of time into the research on the topic of conspiracy theories. The spy cams actually worked great for the dark and dreary scenes and the viewer can clearly make out what it happening throughout. He should be noted for the great screenplay, as well. The pace is slow at the beginning, but picks up after about thirty minutes into the movie, but is tolerable.
This film will definitely make you think about some of the true, actual events that have occurred around the conspiracy theories that were mentioned. It is a great thriller that will keep you focused throughout and gives you an uneasy feeling about what might have happened to Terrance and Aaron. This low budget film definitely is worth a watch and deserves a 6.5 out of 10.
