The Clovehitch Killer was released on November 16, 2018. The film stars Dylan McDermott as Don Burnside and Charlie Plummer as his son Tyler. Madisen Beaty plays Kassi. Don works closely with the Boy Scouts. That gives him some respect among the masses. Meanwhile, the town is attempting to come to grips with the fact that the Clovehitch Killer has not struck in ten years. Soon, Tyler will find himself at the heart of his own investigation into the killer’s identity.
He will team up with Kassi, who is somewhat of an outcast in the heavily religious town. The couple soon begins to suspect that Don could potentially be the killer. Their investigation will allow them to form a strong bond, while also putting them in a serial killer’s crosshairs. So, how is the movie? Well, there is some good and bad here. First and foremost, the filming took place in Kentucky. When Tyler finds driver licenses for the victims, many of them are Kentucky IDs.
Nevertheless, none of the actors and actresses attempt to pull off a Southern accent. That is probably a good thing. A terrible country accent can kill a movie very quickly. The serial killer is a blatant rip off of the BTK Killer. That is somewhat of a plus though. The movie isn’t scary in the least. However, it is disturbing to some degree. This is definitely the case when the killer goes BTK and begins filming himself in women’s clothing and bondage.
This isn’t a movie that is going to keep you up at night. In fact, I found it a little humorous from time to time. The acting isn’t award worthy, but I have seen much worse. It is indeed predictable and the ending is somewhat mediocre. Still, I liked the movie a bit. It wasn’t horrible, but it could have been remarkably better. Still, I’d give it a 6 or 6.5 out of 10.
