The episode begins with Gabriel (Emilien Vekemans) and Clark (Thomas Grant) in a bar. Clark admits to getting everything he ever wanted in him. Gabriel questions if Montana has bars and boys. Clark says he’s from Michigan before asking him to stay at his place forever because life isn’t as good with him not around. After saying, “Okay,” Gabriel tells him that he’ll get them some drinks before leaving the bar.
Gabriel enters his apartment to find see Ruby (Christelle Elwin) creating a potion. Ruby warns him that she wants him. He asks if there is some Night’s Breath. Ruby suggests dumping the individual instead of erasing their memory. After inhaling the potion, Ruby starts speaking in Esme’s voice. Esmie (Kerry Fox) says there’s a job for him in England. He asks what type of job. After assuring him that it isn’t dangerous, she tells him that he’s to meet someone.
Nathan (Jay Lycurgo) screams until he and Gabriel stop in midair. Gabriel shoves him before they hit the ground. Annalise (Nadia Parkes) screams until she falls into a pile of rubbish. Gabriel tells them that there was no mention of the Fairborn Council. Annalise says she’s sorry. He adds the daughter of a Fairborn Council hunter. He orders her to return home before getting killed. Nathan tells him that Annalise isn’t going anywhere.
While buying vodka at a local store, Gabriel asks Nathan what his girlfriend is up to. Nathan tells him that she isn’t his girlfriend. After purchasing a disposable lighter, Annalise tells Gabriel that it’s a peace offering. Gabriel sarcastically says “an ugly plastic lighter” in exchange for nearly getting him killed. She suggests he not accept it if he doesn’t want it. He tells her that he said nothing about not wanting the lighter, only he isn’t grateful.
After a quick apology, Gabriel admits to having several assets at his flat that he cherishes dearly. When Annalise says she’s sorry, he starts naming each of the items. Gabriel toasts to Miss Adventure before taking a swig of vodka. Nathan prompts Annalise to accept the vodka when Gabriel passes it to her.
Nathan asks if Blood Witches live in Europe. Gabriel tells him that there are thousands of them. Nathan questions if the fains are aware of them. Gabriel suggests the fains don’t see what they don’t want to.
After greeting Gabriel as he steps aboard his ship, pirate, Habir (Uriel Emil) demands to know where his money is at. Gabriel hands him a bundle of money before describing his untrusting nature as “unattractive.”
After describing Annalise as “a girl with blood in her hair,” Gabriel asks why she wants to change her power. Annalise admits to having decimation power. He whistles loudly before telling her that only a few Fairborn Witches possess such a power. She sarcastically says, “Lucky me.” He assures her that all she needs to do is learn to control it. She admits to wanting her power to go away.
Gabriel dreams of being young Gabriel (Charles Nicol) with a woman who appears to quote from a book. Nathan lies awake listening to heartbeats.
Soul (Paul Ready) tells Ceelia (Karen Connel) that Nathan escaped from the Fairborn Council building. She asks how he did it. After informing her that the Blood Witches helped Nathan and abducted Annalise, he says their going hunting.
Nathan asks what will become of him once he gets his family’s blood. Gabriel suggests they focus on his staying alive.
Gabriel tosses a necklace to a man. Nathan asks why he did it. Gabriel says there, one must notify of his presence and pay his way or risk getting killed. When they reach their destination, he casts a spell to create an entrance before walking through. Annalise and Nathan hesitate before following suit.
Gabriel finds his flat has been ransacked and a valuable asset stolen. Annalise reminds him of their tight schedule. He warns them that there will be no Mercury without his equipment. Nathan suggests the culprit had a key since the door isn’t damaged.
Gabriel escorts Nathan and Annalise to a local bar where he meets Jacques (Laurent C. Lucas). He tells him that Ruby took his equipment. Jacques assures him that she wouldn’t do it. After reminding him that Ruby’s a drug addict, Gabriel admits to pushing her to rob him. A hand appears before Nicky (Emile Largier) makes her presence. She asks who are his friends. Gabriel says they are Blood Witches from the UK. She orders Hugo (Joey Akubeze) to pour coffee. Lennox (Jermaine Young) says rumor has it that a lot of Blood Witches were killed by Fairborn Witches. Annalise says it was more like Blood Witches killed Fairborn Witches, obviously a good thing. Lennox warns them that the Fairborn Council embassies are on high alert as they search for someone. He assures Gabriel that there is only one place to find his stolen equipment. Gabriel describes the odor as “unbearable.”
Gabriel asks Lucas (Raad Rawi) if he’s seen Ruby. Lucas says, “No” before trying to convince them to buy something. When Gabriel grabs his arm, he says Ruby sold him a box of items that he had no was stolen. Gabriel demands to know what he did with it. Lucas informs him that everything has a price. Gabriel says he has the daughter of a Fairborn Witch. Nathan and Annalise remove a map from his cart. Gabriel says now that an arrangement has been made, they’ll need to wait.
Giving her Lucas’s map, Nathan says they’ll go anywhere of her liking after they see Mercury. When Gabriel receives the box, he realizes a book is missing. Lucas assures him that Ruby never gave him a book. When he cancels the deal, Lucas says it’s too late, the girl belongs to him. As two officers approach, Gabriel orders Nathan and Annalise to run. While casting a spell, one of the men punches him.
Gabriel dreams of being young when a woman gives him a book. She says they’re going inside, if she yells run, he is to start running and never stop.
The sergeant (Alex Gaumond) informs him that the test results revealed he was in possession of heroin and cocaine. Gabriel assures him that it isn’t his stuff. The sergeant reminds him of his travel companion before holding up a photo of Nathan. When Gabriel refuses to say anything, the sergeant warns him that he made the wrong decision.
Nathan and Annalise rush back to the bar where Gabrielle met Nicky and Lennox.
Bjorn (Fehinti Balogun) punches a restrained Safir. Soul asks where are Nathan and Annalise. Safir says he doesn’t know. After sending Bjorn away, Soul asks Jessica (Isobel Jesper Jones) what she knows about Europe. She assures him that it’s “dangerous.” He warns her of the dangers they’ll face on their journey before giving her a knife to get information out of Safir. Jessica shapeshifts into Safir before slicing his face.
As Jessica tortures Safir, Bjorn reminds Ceelia how the two-year was afraid when they found her. Ceelia suggests she isn’t afraid now. Bjorn agrees when a bloody Safir emerges from the cabin. Walking in their direction, Jessica laughs when she shapeshifts back into herself. Kieran (Hector Hewer) appears shocked by her behavior. She informs Soul that Nathan and Annalise are in Paris.
The sergeant informs Gabriel that it’s time for him to go. Gabriel asks where he’s going. The sergeant warns it’s nowhere nice. As he’s escorted down the hallway, a police officer says the lawyer wants to see him.
Lennox impersonates a lawyer asks the officer what are the charges. The officer tells him that Gabriel’s been charged with assaulting an officer and drug possession. Lennox assures him that they know what is going on as he twists his hand. The officer warns he’s utilizing his power when he’s thrown against the wall. Lennox punches the sergeant when Nicky appears through a wall. He removes the photo of Nathan from the sergeant’s pocket before they make their exit.
Annalise admits to being surprised that she, a Fairborn Witch, is saving a Blood Witch for the second time. Nathan warns her that she’ll earn herself a reputation when an alarm is activated. Nicky, Lennox, and Gabriel jump in the vehicle. Gabriel thanks them for busting him out of jail.
Annalise asks how long it take Gabriel to make a cut. Lennox tells her that the cuts were created a long time ago. Nicky says the bar from earlier has the doorway to Mercury. Lennox assures them that they could have gone through it earlier.
Gabrielle accuses Clark of stealing his equipment. Clark reminds him of how he left him without an explanation. Gabrielle asks why he took the book. Clark says he knew it would be the only thing that he would come looking for. After Gabrielle casts a spell, Clark asks if he can assist him. Gabrielle tells him that he got lost while looking for the restroom. Clark says they’re just down the hall.
Annalise accuses Gabriel of lying about the cut. Gabrielle admits to bending the truth. Nathan asks why the book is so important to him. Gabrielle says the person that gave it to him was important. Nathan asks who was it. Gabrielle claims he doesn’t remember. Annalise scolds him for delaying their reaching Mercury. Smirking, Lennox tells Nathan that he’s Marcus Edge’s son. Gabrielle asks why the Fairborn Council wants him. After citing the prophecy, “His own blood will kill the wolf,” Nathan says he is supposed to kill his father. When Nicky says she’ll take them, Gabriel tells them goodbye. Lennox kisses Nathan on the head before they return to the bar from earlier.
As Nicky, Annalise, and Nathan take shots, Lennox casts a spell. Annalise tosses a glass before screaming Nathan’s name. People shoot at them as they take off running.
Gabrielle looks at the cover of the book and the lighter from Annalise. Nathan and Annalise lock themselves in a room. Gabrielle says a bad idea before heading back to the bar.
Upon arriving at the bar, a man warns Gabrielle that he’s too late. He casts a spell before fighting his way through the bar. Lennox and Gabrielle get into a physical altercation. After hearing Gabrielle call his name, Nathan and Annalise open the door. They find Lennox with Gabrielle pinned up against a wall. Nathan beats up until Annalise forces him to stop. Nicky says she’s sorry before firing several shots in their direction as they flee the bar.
Gabrielle informs them that they’ll need to take the long route to Mercury. Annalise reminds him that Nathan needs his family’s blood in five days. After warning them that the long route is treacherous, he says at least one of them may be killed. Nathan stares at his injured hand when Annalise asks if he’s going to join them. They start their journey to Mercury as the episode comes to an end.
The Bastard Son & The Bastard Son Synopsis
Clark asked Gabriel to move into his place. Gabriel agreed but walked out of the bar to never return.
Esmie sent Gabriel a message via Ruby after he failed to check in with her. She told him that there is a job for him in England. He knew it was a job, nothing more or nothing less.
After some back and forth from episode 3, Annalise, Gabriel, and Nathan evade the Fairborn Council hunters.
Gabriel found himself in a predicament when one of his most valuable assets is stolen. He instantly blamed Ruby who he described as a drug addict. Instead of entering the cut leading to Mercury, he implemented a search for Ruby.
Knowing Gabriel was upset over his ransacked flat and important items, Annalise gave him a peace offering, a disposal lighter. Gabriel didn’t hold anything back when he denied being grateful. The lighter would later convince Gabriel to return to the bar to save Annalise and Nathan from their demise.
Their journey leads them to Habir, a pirate with a tugboat. His decision to help them reach Mercury would turn deadly when Jessica forced him to give up Nathan’s location.
Although Soul watched Annalise voluntarily leap off the balcony, he told Ceelia that the Blood Witches abducted her.
In Paris, Gabriel takes Annalise and Nathan to a local bar where he meets some old acquaintances. Lennox and Nicky told them that the Fairborn Witches were on the lookout for someone.
Gabriel’s for his book led him to a local peddler, Lucas. He offered to trade Annalise for the book. When Lucas never produced the book, Gabriel refused to hand over Annalise. Lucas got the police involved which landed Gabriel in jail. Annalise and Nathan reach out to Nicky and Lennox to break him out.
Gabriel confronted Clark about stealing his book. Clark stole the book because he knew Gabriel would come for it. Gabriel erases him from his memory once the book is in his possession.
Nicky and Lennox set Annalise and Nathan up. Gabriel ended up saving them once again.
The trio would now be forced to take the long route to Mercury. Gabriel warns the journey would be longer and much more dangerous that the cut in the bar.
The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself Review
The show gets better with each episode. It’s apparent, the actors have strong onstage relationships. They work extremely well together, especially Jay Lycurgo and Nadia Parkes. Emilien Vekemans is a great addition to the cast. Gabriel is charismatic, funny, and caring in his own way.
