At the beginning of the episode, Daniel Milton (Mark Strong) prepares to remove his kidney and give it to his wife. He successfully removes his kidney by performing surgery on himself. As he learns over Beth (Catherine McCormack), she grabs his arm and tells him not to do this. Daniel wakes up next to his wife’s bed. It was all a dream. After the intro, Daniel meets with Suzanna (Anamaria Marinca) and speaks with her about her health. During the examination, Suzanna tells Daniel that she knows how he feels since she lost her child to cancer when he was four. She feels like a coward because she wanted to die too. She explains that the sadness he feels will become less and less but it will never go away completely.
After that, Daniel takes her blood to Simon (Turlough Convery) for testing. Lee Simmons (Daniel Mays) calls Celine (Carolina Main) but he only gets her voicemail. Then, he goes to work and is asked to meet with Ferguson tomorrow morning. Lee doesn’t want to do it but he agrees to anyway. Then, Lee takes a patient to the lab but Daniel is nowhere to be found. He asks Jamie (Tobi King Bakare) about Daniel but he hasn’t seen him either. During their conversation, Jamie tells Lee about Michelle not answering his text messages. Lee promises to check up on her to find out if something has gone wrong. Daniel finally returns home, checks the mail, and goes to sleep.
Jack (Sam Hazeldine) tells Anna (Carice van Houten) that he is leaving and when he’ll return. He realizes that she is down in the dumps because her project didn’t work out. Before Jack leaves, Anna tells him that they should do something romantic together when he returns. Lee goes to Michelle’s workplace and finds out that she gave birth. He also learns that another person has been looking for her too. We quickly find out that the other person is Keith Sullivan (Craig Parkinson). He speaks with Mercy (Wunmi Mosaku) about getting to Michelle (Siena Kelly). They agree that it would be best to wait until she gets out of the hospital.
Then, they discuss Keith’s payment for his work. He wants to sleep with Mercy but he doesn’t believe that will happen until the job is finished. Mercy suggests otherwise and gives Keith his payment right away. The man with the laundered money, Jay Shah, gets a visit from DI Karen Hall (Chloe Pirrie) and DI Rob Moloney (Ryan McKen). They want to speak about a recent deposit he made. Lee tries to call Celine once again. Jamie is in the same boat. He tries to find ways to stay busy while waiting for Michelle to return his text messages. Gloria Wilson (Claire Rushbrook) tells Michelle that she is going to go home and get her some clothes and other items.
She takes Michelle’s other clothes with her and ends up finding the secret cellphone. She realizes that Michelle has been communicating with Jamie for some time now. Eve (Lily Newmark) returns home and wakes up her father. They speak about Eve, college, and Beth. Eve admits she is angry that her mother ended her life selfishly. Daniel says that he still hasn’t come to the realization that Beth has passed and that is his problem. Lee joins Ferguson and the others at the meeting but he is distracted. He finally receives a call from Celine and gets bad news. She doesn’t want to talk to him anymore. He gets angry with his co-workers and storms off.
Meanwhile, Daniel continues his conversation with his daughter. They agree to attend an upcoming event together. Daniel goes to Celine’s workplace in hopes of sorting things out. However, that isn’t going to happen. Celine isn’t willing to give him one more date. She says that things just haven’t worked out. DI Moloney interviews Jay Shah about the laundered money. Jay says that a man bought 12 computers with cash and said they were for a school. The investigator doesn’t believe it. Karen pulls Rob aside and tells him that she is going to follow up on something else. She leaves Rob to deal with Jay.
Karen meets with Gloria and threatens her by saying that she and Michelle could be charged and that could result in them losing custody of the baby. Gloria returns to the hospital and speaks with Michelle. She doesn’t mention the cellphone. Anna gets a visit from Daniel. They speak about returning to normal lives and Daniel admits it will be nice not to lie anymore. He thanks her numerous times before they share a kiss.
Daniel apologizes and leaves. Back at the clinic, Lee tells Jamie about Michelle and the baby. Lee is angry when Daniel returns a few moments later. Lee scolds Daniel for not being there for the patient. He goes off on Jamie too. Daniel explains that the experiment with his wife is going to end so he’ll need a few days to find out what to do with her.
Then, he intends to leave. Lee tells him that he’ll give them a few days to sort things out before they should go. He rushes off angrily. Jamie wonders if Lee wants him to leave too. Daniel spends time with his wife while Keith speaks with Mercy about their future. He believes that they can stay together now that Sebastian is out of the way.
Mercy gets angry and says that Sebastian will always be a part of her life. Gloria goes to the police station and hands the cellphone over to the investigators. Daniel gets in touch with Simon and finds out that Suzanna has autoimmune hemolytic anemia. She would be okay with corticosteroids right now but Daniel might need to remove her spleen later.
Simon lets Daniel know that he emailed him the results of the test. Daniel begins scouring through the results and he finds something interesting. He calls Simon back and tells him that he has spotted something extraordinary. He asks Simon to do tissue-typing for organ compatibility for the kidneys. After that, Daniel visits Suzanna. He tells her that she can have an operation as long as he performs it. He suggests that she is going to die otherwise but he needs her to trust him 100%.
Temple Review
I really like Temple and I felt that this episode got back on track. The last one was a bit tedious. I just wish Gloria hadn’t given the police the cellphone. There was no push back from her at all. As soon as she was threatened, she caved in and gave up her daughter and Jamie. Nevertheless, the episode was very good. Daniel gave up hope but his hope was restored at the end of the episode. I am a bit confused about that though. Simon said that Daniel could treat her with medicine or remove her spleen.
How does that have anything to do with a kidney? Has he talked Suzanna into it or is he going to take the kidney without her permission and knowledge? I hope Lee comes to his senses but I can see why he was so angry. He has been good to everyone but nobody has helped him. I hope things work out for him. This episode scores a 7.5 out of 10.
