At the beginning of the episode, Eve Milton (Lily Newmark) goes for a swim. After that, she gets into an argument with another girl during class. Eve agrees to leave and does so after punching the other girl in the face. Daniel (Mark Strong) arrives at the school and learns about his daughter’s behavioral issues. After that, Daniel tries to get in touch with his daughter but only gets to leave a voicemail message. After that, Daniel receives a call from Clive (Jan Bijvoet) about a meeting. After the intro, Daniel meets with Clive and they discuss the kidney. Clive tells Daniel that it is going to cost him double now. Daniel doesn’t have that kind of money but he believes he can get it.
Meanwhile, Lee Simmons (Daniel Mays) seems to be worried about what he has done. Mercy King (Wunmi Mosaku) goes to the wedding shop and speaks with Michelle (Siena Kelly). During their conversation, Mercy finds out when Michelle is getting off work. Daniel goes to work trying to collect the money he needs to buy the kidney. He sells his car and gets some of the money but not all of it. Next, he goes to the hospital and tries to bum Michael Chandler (Mark Bazeley) got the money. Unfortunately, Michael doesn’t have it. Before Daniel leaves, he is confronted by Suzanna (Anamaria Marinca). She explains that she needs to visit the doctor but there are certain things she doesn’t want to talk about.
She wants to meet with Daniel instead. Lee speaks with Jamie (Tobi King Bakara) about food and other mundane things. Lee finds out that Michelle is most likely at work right now. Next, Jack (Sam Hazeldine) talks with Anna (Carice van Houten) about going out of town but she is distracted and doesn’t listen. In a flashback, we see Beth (Catherine McCormack) and Anna talking before the party. Beth isn’t going right away and Anna things she is getting locked in too much. Beth lashes back by suggesting that Anna has never tried to do anything someone else hadn’t. Back in the present, Anna begins experimenting with the rats. Daniel returns to the clinic and this forces Jamie to hide his cellphone.
Lee tries to go to work but he seems distracted. Karen Hall (Chloe Pirrie) and Rob Moloney (Ryan McKen) chat about Lee’s visit. Karen is convinced that he said something about Jamie and that is why Michelle reacted the way she did. Daniel finds the hidden money and takes some of it to pay for the kidney. Anna finds out that her experiments are not going well. The rats continue dying. She speaks with Daniel and they agree to have a chat later. Lee gets away from his boss and contacts Michelle. He tells her that she should stay away from work for a few days since people are after her. Karen and Rob watch as Keith (Craig Parkinson) and Mercy visit Michelle’s house.
Gloria (Claire Rushbrook) lets them in without realizing that they could be trouble. Thankfully, Rob and Karen arrive in time to prevent Michelle and Gloria from being hurt. After that, Michelle goes into labor and is rushed to the hospital. Daniel meets with Clive and buys the kidney. Daniel is left without a vehicle so he has to rush back to the clinic. He rides the bus but it gets stopped. Then, he takes a taxi and it gets stopped in heavy traffic. Finally, he jumps into another taxi and gets a call from his daughter. Unfortunately, the taxi driver (Jordan Long) is the guy who Daniel got into a spat with during an earlier episode.
During the chaos, the cooler containing the kidney gets knocked into the road and the kidney gets ran over by a vehicle. Lee spends the night with Celine (Carolina Main). He tells her about his passion for prepping and things seem to go sour. Later, Lee calls her hoping he can explain himself a little but he is only able to leave a message. Jamie is unable to contact Michelle since she is in the hospital. Anna finally achieves her goal and the rat doesn’t die. Daniel returns and learns the good news. However, he breaks the bad news to her about the kidney. Anna tells him that she will not be coming back to the clinic since she needs to get on with her life.
At the end of the episode, Clive and his partner prepare to launder the money. It is taken to a shop and the episode ends.
Temple Review
I’ve really liked Temple but this episode felt like a waste. To be honest, very little happened. Daniel spent the entire episode trying to track down the kidney. When he finally got it, the kidney ended up getting destroyed. We spend a good 5 or 10 minutes jumping from bus to taxi and to another taxi. It felt a little unnecessary. Nevertheless, things should start picking up now. The money trail is going to lead back to Daniel and that is going to create trouble for everyone.
We also have Mercy getting closer to tracking down Jamie. What will Daniel do now? Will he give up on his wife and focus on treating others? Or, will he find a way to secure another kidney? I hope the next episode is better. This one scores a 6.5 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of Temple before you leave!
