At the start of the episode, Lau (Katie Leung) and Jonah (John Simm) rush away from the scene. The hitman calls his boss and promises to take care of Jonah. David (Anthony Chau-Sang Wong) remains on the ground. Jonah tells Lau that he found out why Megan was killed. Lau already knows. After the intro, Jonah and Lau speak with Arthur Bach. Bach insists that Xo is not the type of person you would want to cross. Jonah isn’t willing to back down. Jonah lashes out at Bach for his hand in Megan’s murder. Bach promises to protect them. The crime scene is investigated. Michael Cohen (Anthony Hayes) speaks with Jonah. Jonah wants Michael to get the story out. Michael seems surprised to learn about David’s death.
Michael is given a rundown of the past events involving Megan and Xo. Lau agrees to take a DNA test to prove the story. Cohen explains that it is going to take time to investigate the paper trail and check everything out. Rachel Hargreaves (Raquel Cassidy) gets a call from Michael. He wants to speak with his daughter before he goes to bed. Michael tells her that she is going to get what is coming to her in 24 hours. He warns her that her boss is going to face trouble ahead. Lau is worried about people knowing who she is. Jonah offers to stop the story, but she wants Xo to go to prison. In the morning, Rachel finds Xo dead. He has committed suicide.
Lau returns to her apartment. Jonah is surprised to see her gone. Moments later, Jonah learns about Xo’s suicide. Bach tells him all about it. Xo left a suicide note confessing to something bad. Bach believes it has something to do with Megan’s death. Bach admits that the confession being made public is pretty slim. Bach claims that it is all over. He wants Jonah to go home as well. Jonah takes a taxi to the burned restaurant where Megan often hid away. Lau receives a call from the authorities. She learns that they’ve been unable to find his body. Jonah meets with Felix Chong (Thomas Chaanhing). Jonah tells him about his wife’s flat at Potoyo Bay. Felix finds out that it was arson. Lau hears a knock at the door. It is Jonah. He tells her about Megan’s flat being torched.
He contemplates why Megan would want them to go to the flat. He believes that he is missing something. He glances at the passports once again. Lau agrees to let Jonah have the passports. She promises that she’ll be fine. Jonah calls Emma (Rosalind Halstead). He tells her to go to his place and look in Megan’s office. He wants her to look for paperwork in the name of Megan Walker. Felix visits Lau. Felix has been put on the case. He shows Lau a picture of the hitman. The man has already been detained. His name is Conrad Davis. Emma searches through the paperwork. She finds an envelope with the name. Inside, she discovers a London storage receipt. Emma visits the unit while chatting with Jonah on the phone. She finds a box inside.
The box contains photographs of Lau. Emma finds a USB with Potoyo written on it. Jonah and Michael scour through the files together. They find a video of the flat. It is a meeting between Xo and Megan. Megan speaks to Xo about what he did to her. Becky (Kae Alexander) arrives to check on Lau. Becky comes clean with Lau. Lau promises that it wasn’t Becky’s fault. Xo and Megan come to an arrangement. Near the end, Xo speaks in another language. Michael believes he knows what Xo is saying. Moments later, Michael speaks with Rachel about Xo. He tells her about the recording. Michael claims that Rachel knew about the meeting with Megan and she was angry. Michael isn’t sure Xo would pay Megan and then have her killed. He blames Rachel for everything else.
He doesn’t want a story. He wants his daughter. Michael shows her the USB drive. Rachel admits they just wanted it all to be taken care of. She claims everything would have been fine if Conrad wouldn’t have passed it on to some triad. Michael returns to Jonah with a recording of the conversation. Jonah promises to get the recording to someone they can trust. A short time later, authorities arrive to arrest Rachel. Felix tells her that she is under arrest. Sally (Emilia Fox) calls Jonah. She learns about David’s death. Sally claims that Arthur had his own agenda with Xo. Sally kept a record of everything they did. Arthur is also arrested. Jonah refuses to forgive her. He hangs up moments later. Michael reunites with his daughter.
Rachel receives a jailhouse visit from Jonah. He asks her why. She claims that she did it all for Xo, who she loved like a father. Jonah tells Rachel that Conrad is already talking. Rachel tells Jonah that he wanted to find out who Megan loved. She claims that he still doesn’t know and never will. Jonah meets with Lau outside. Conrad told the police where David was buried. Lau wants to do something with Jonah before he leaves. Lau says a prayer for her father. Lau wonders how Megan could do that to her dad and Jonah. He asks her if she ever wanted to be someone else. He claims that he might have been that for Megan. Jonah gives Lau his contact details before preparing to return home. Seconds later, Jonah returns to London.
He visits Megan’s storage unit and looks through the box. He finds a card to himself. The card tells him that it was always him.
Strangers Review
Strangers or White Dragon was decent. It wasn’t anything to write home about, but I felt that it was a good way to kill 8 hours or so. The pacing was a bit sluggish and the story was a tad bit boring here and there. On a plus note, the acting was pretty good from everyone. It hasn’t been my favorite show of the year but I enjoyed it somewhat. I’d give the finale a 7.5 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of Strangers right now!
