Stranger in a Strange Land – The show begins with Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) in an enclosed bacta tank. Fett dreams of his childhood. Young Boba Fett (Daniel Logan) examines an armor helmet he found lying in the sand. In another dream, he utilizes oxygen from a stormtrooper to escape the Great Pit of Carkoon. He passes out from exhaustion when he reaches freedom.
Jawas find his limp body lying in the sand. As they remove his Mandalorian gear, he comes through and grabs a Jawa’s leg. The Jawa clonks him on the head.
Tusken Raiders happen upon Fett’s unconscious body. They bind his hands with a rope and drop liquid into his mouth to wake him. With the rope tied to a Bantha, Fett is led through a sandstorm. When he can no longer walk, they drag his limp body through the sand. They arrive at the Tusken Raider camp.
A Tusken Raider kid pokes Fett with a stick before others join in beating him. The Tusken Raider Chief (Xavier Jimenez) watches from a short distance away. He is knocked out by a kick. It is dark when he comes through and realizes he is not alone. A short distance away, a Rodian is also being held captive. A Tusken Raider Massiff is keeping watch over the captives. The Massiff growls and gradually walks toward Fett as he tries to free his hands. The Rodian prisoner grows concerned about the approaching Massiff.
As Fett frees his hands, the Massiff leaps toward him. He knocks it out and asks the Rodian prisoner if he wants his rope cut. A Tusken Raider kid rushes forward with his weapon drawn. Fett grabs the weapon and threatens to hit the kid before he falls to the ground in the fetal position. He runs away, with Massiff and Tusken Raiders in tow. He takes a swing at the Massiff before it is called off. A Tusken Raider pulls his gaffi stick and prepares for a duel.
Fett is asleep in his bacta tank at Hutts’ criminal empire on Tatooine. Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) tells him to wake up. He tells her the dreams are back. She reminds him, the people of Mos Espa are waiting to pay their respect. Aqualish Don is the first in line to pay respect to Fett, giving him a box of coins and muttering a few words. Fett asks Shand, “Did you get any of that.” She responds, “Something about friendship.” He says we need a protocol droid.
Dokk Strassi (Robert Rodriguez) presents Fett with a gift. Before leaving, Dokk Strassi says, “May you never leave Mos Espa.” Fett says the compliment sounds like a threat. Mok Shaiz (David Pasquesi) sends his Majordomo to pay a welcome, not a tribute. Shand reminds the mayor’s Majordomo that Jabba would have fed him to his menagerie. The mayor wants Fett to pay him tribute. Fett refuses Shand’s offer to kill the Majordomo and lets him live as a tribute to the mayor.
UK2-B (Matt Berry) presents Jabba’s former Gamorrean guards (Frank Trigg and Collin Gymes). They refused to surrender after Jabba was killed. UK2-B suggests torturing the Gamorrean guards to send a message to his challengers. They agree to honor him if they are permitted to live. Shand doesn’t agree with his decision to spare them.
Fett refuses to be carried on a litter. Shand suggests he accept the ways of Mos Espa. They visit the Sanctuary to see Garsa Fwip (Jennifer Beals). Twi’lek servers (Andrea Bartlow and Marlon Aquino) offer to service their helmets while they wait. Shand refuses the offer while Fett accepts. When they walk away, he suggests accepting their ways.
Madam Garsa welcomes them and offers to water and feed the Gamorrean guards. He refuses the offer and introduces himself and Shand. She apologizes and says, “I didn’t see your litter.” He walks on his feet. She welcomes him to the establishment, which he is now the owner of. A Twi’lek server returns his help filled with coins.
He plans to rule differently than Jabba. He will rule with respect, not fear. They are surrounded by assassins with electrified swords and shields. Fett and Shand are under attack when the Gamorrean guards come to the rescue. Fett is injured during the battle. Shand is ordered to bring the assassins back alive while the Gamorrean guards take care of Fett. Shand kicks an assassin off a building and holds the other one hostage. The Gamorrean guards help Fett into his bacta tank.
In a dream, Fett is yet again a Tusken Raider captive. A young Tusken Raider (Wesley Kimmel) unties Fett and the Rodian prisoner. They led away from the Tusken Raider camp and to a village under attack. They are ordered to return in the same direction they came. A short distance away, they are given orders to dig for water. The Rodian prisoner finds water that is quickly taken away. Their captor pulls his weapon on Fett while he drinks water. He takes the water and gives it to the Massiff.
Fett and the Rodian prisoner continue digging while the Massiff and Tusken kid rest. He says we could have escaped if you had kept your snout closed. If they could reach Anchorhead, he could save them or strangle him with the chain. The Rodian prisoner angrily responds. They continue digging until the Rodian prisoner discovers a massive sand creature. The Massiff attacks the sand creature as the Rodian prisoner is slammed to the ground. Fett is hanging by his ankle chain. The Tusken kid is slapped backward when he stabs the sand creature’s foot. Fett wraps his ankle chain around the sand creature’s neck as he goes after the Tusken kid. Fett strangles the sand creature to death.
The Tusken kid runs into the camp, holding the sand creature’s head like a trophy. He demonstrates how Fett killed the sand creature. The Tusken Chief gives Fett some water. He drinks it as the episode comes to an end.
Star Wars The Book of Boba Fett Review
With limited Star Wars viewing, I wouldn’t dare compare the episode with past projects. I can, however, review the episode as a whole.
The pace is a bit slow, with nothing significant happening. It is the first episode, so there is still room for improvement. There is enough going on to keep you entertained throughout the episode.
The acting, costumes, camera work, and special effects are spot-on. The dialogue is cheesy at times, especially the lame jokes.
Please feel free to leave a comment, so we can give our viewing audience a fair review of the show. The episode deserves a 6.5.
