SOO Hunt – The episode begins with Shoresy (Jared Kesso) face down on the ice and what ensued. It’s not long before he’s carted away on a stretcher. When he finally comes through, he sits silently with Nat (Tasya Teles) in the locker room while the game comes to a close.

Merely an hour after the hit, Shoresy finds himself meeting with Nat, Ziigwan (Blair Lamora) and Miigwan (Keilani Elizabeth Rose) to advocate remaining in the lineup. Sanguinet (Harlan Blayne Kytwayhat) is also present and continually apologizes to Shorey, although he keeps reminding him that he is not the one who hit him. As the debate goes back and forth, it becomes clear that Nat isn’t going to let Shoresy play in the semi-finals, but she questions whether or not he should think about retiring. Miigwan attempts to offer some relief by pointing out that at least he’ll never have to do another interview with Jory Jordan (Maclean Fish).

At the mention of his name, the footage flashes to the Sudbury Kids Sport Report where Jory interviews Soo Hunt players, Delaney (Frederick Roy), Plamer (Alex Penner), and Schnurr (Neil Clark) about their upcoming rematch with the Bulldogs. All three become nearly speechless when they hear that Shoresy won’t be lacing up for the game.

While Shoresy attempts to downplay his injuries with several of his teammates at the team apartment, the prospect of retirement rears its head again when Ted Hitchcock (Terry Ryan) points out that sometimes the body just won’t do what you need it to do. Shoresy appears stunned that his body’s failure is the topic of concern when they have a teammate like JJ Frankie JJ (Max Bouffard).

As soon as Frankie’s name is mentioned, the footage switches to his interview with Jordana Lajoie (Marie-Camille Robidaux-Leblanc) where he is confronted by his three lovers. First up is, Lysandre Nadeau (Lysandre Nadeau) and she wastes little time ripping into him and claiming that he ruined her life. Next is Laurence Leboeuf (Laurence Leboeuf) and he is just as harsh. Marie-Mai is brought out last and is by far the worst. Things certainly don’t get any better for him when Marjorie St-Onge makes an unexpected appearance.

Liam (Keegan Long) and Cory (Bourke Cazabon) waste little time teasing Shoresy over his injuries but he proves just as witty as ever, perhaps even more so now. After an entire game of fierce insulting, it appears that Shoresy has worked up a thirst and finds himself at one of the local drinking establishments. When he joins Nat at the bar, it becomes clear his visit was intentional. After a bit of pleading, he doesn’t convince her to consider letting him play after the Bulldog’s next game, which could be divisionary. She does appear to take him by surprise when she says that she cares more about his health than winning.

True to their word, Miigwan and Ziigwan help ‘Gorgeous’ George/Gord Gallant (Nick Laporte) with storing the seafood. While doing so, he continues to hit on Ziigwan, who continues to turn him down. While that takes place, Shoresy briefly discusses life after hockey with Laura Mohr (Camille Sullivan). This discussion is extremely brief because apparently for Shoresy, there is no life after hockey.

A quick BROdude update from Anik (Kim Cloutier) reveals that the Rapides de Rawdon/The Rapids managed to keep their undefeated streak by defeating the Charlottetown Reds. They will face off with the winners of the Bulldog/SOO Hunt game. The brief update is followed by a live interview with Gord at the arena. As soon as they are off the air, she asks him out for drinks. He refuses the offer by claiming that he ‘might’ be meeting someone. Although Miigwan and Ziigwan witness the encounter, they don’t get very long to debate it thanks to the arrival of Shoresy.

After learning that Ziigwan got a ticket on her way to the arena, Shoresy proceeds to show her how she should use her looks to avoid this in the future. Ziigwan appears to be shocked that Shoresy thinks she’s hot. After doling out his advice, Shoresy is on his way to the locker room when he’s approached by Anik, off camera, with the prospects for life after hockey. His response remains the same and when Anik mentions a prospective broadcasting career, he quickly finds an excuse to rush off.

Nat appears to regret her decision about not letting Shoresy play and discusses this with Sanguinet before the game. Although he assures her that she made the right decision, they don’t get long to debate it because Shoresy shows up. After a bit of mocking and teasing, Sanguinet asks Shoresy to read the lineup. He refuses but is waiting outside the locker room to cheer his teammates on as they make their way to the rink. Despite not playing, Shoresy gives his typical pre-game interview and assures Anik the Bulldogs are confident. As soon as Anik directs attention to Frankie and his love affairs, Shoresy practically walks off where he joins Liam and Cory in the stands.

It’s downhill for the Bulldogs once the Hunt score their first goal. Despite Michaels (Ryan McDonell) rallying and Sanguinet’s outbursts, the Bulldogs can’t seem to gain any momentum.

The episode ends with the Bulldogs down by 3 before the first period is over. Shoresy receives a text from Nat, encouraging him to find a way to contribute. With one look at Cory and Liam, they dump their beers on the rowdy group of men behind them.

 

Shoresy Review

Not a horrible episode but not the greatest either. I do find the prospect of Shoresy being forced into retirement a bit interesting. I would imagine if they are headed in that direction, it probably means an end to the series. That said, I think the show could continue to be successful without Shoresy as a Bulldog player. Completely removing Jared from the series obviously wouldn’t be an option, but I feel having him in a different role would work. I doubt that’s the way things would go, but interesting nonetheless. I enjoy the adversity the Bulldogs keep facing because it’ll only make victory that much sweeter, if they are, in fact, successful. Either way, this episode deserves a 5.4 out of 10.
