Shoresy Season 3 Episode 6 Finale Recap

Les Rapides De Rawdon – The episode begins with Shoresy (Jared Keeso) Liam (Keegan Long) and Cory (Bourke Cazabon) basking in the hysteria they create in the stands. Shoresy subsequently meets with Nat (Tasya Teles), Marie-Mai Bouchard (Marie-Mai Bouchard), and several other members to debate his possible suspension. Delaney (Frederick Roy) and Marco ‘Sly’ Sylvestri (Brad Bonello), who are also present, advocate for Shoresy’s suspension and claim his actions resulted in the SOO’s loss. After a bit more debating and the reveal that the final tournament game could be Shoresy’s final game, the panel decides to let him play.

The footage then skips over to Jory Jordan (Maclean Fish) with the Sudbury Kids Sports Report where he delivers the breaking news that Marie-Mai is the hottest woman he’s ever seen. He goes on a bit about how hot she is and the things he would do to her before very briefly mentioning Shorey’s retirement.

Although Shoresy’s retirement gets much more attention during the BROdude report, it doesn’t show him in the best light. RA (Brian McGonagle) practically declares that no one even cares while Anik (Kim Cloutier) and Jay Onrait (Jay Onrait) both believe it is the sheer physicality and increasing injuries that are forcing him into retirement.

As usual, Shoresy is a hit with the kids at what appears to be the final live nutritional seminar. These events appear to have done some good as one of the kids (Hidar Saadoun) notes how much more energy he has since changing his breakfast from Lucky Charms to Denver Omelets. JoDolo (Jonathan-Ismael Diaby), Michaels (Ryan McDonell), and Grant ‘Goody’ Goodleaf (Andrew Antsanen) add a few brief sentiments about what it means to be a part of a team before the event concludes. With the event concluded, Shoresy is approached by Jill, with the offer to coach/teacher at a new children’s hockey school that will soon be opening in Sudbury. Despite his immediate refusal, Jill encourages him to think it over.

Later that day, Shoresy’s retirement finally gets some attention during a live segment of the Sudbury Kids Sports Report with Jory and Tessa Bonhomme (Tessa Bonhomme). Despite Jory’s constant criticism during the segment, he surprises Shoresy when the cameras go off the air by shaking his hand and thanking him for being on the show. He adds that he’s running a business and Shorey’s segments always draw a big crowd.

Shortly after the live report, Shoresy shares Jory’s reaction with Nat but she appears unbelieving. Despite that, she also thanks him for his contributions over the years. There is a sentimental moment about his retirement but it is immediately lost when he teases her about crying. His subsequent interview with Laura Mohr (Camille Sullivan) goes about the same way but with a bit more flirtation. He doesn’t appear to have an answer to whether or not he’ll be happy without hockey.

While Shoresy takes a final walk around the stadium, the fans and teams gather for the final tournament game. It isn’t long after this that both teams are suited and making their way to the ice for the National Anthem. Things are pretty even and remain so until the Rapids score their first goal. That is immediately followed by another and the Bulldogs go into the second period down by two.

During the in-between period break, Shoresy gives a very brief interview to Anik. When she asks him what needs to change going into the second period, the footage abruptly cuts to the Bulldog’s locker room. There Sanguinet (Harlan Blayne Kytwayhat) is addressing the Jims (Jon Mirasty/Brandon Nolan/Jordan Nolan). It isn’t long until Shoresy chimes and encourages the team to set the tone that everyone becomes fired up. Although the Bulldog’s return to the ice fired up and start several fights, fate appears to have other plans. The Rapids increases their lead to four by the end of the second period.

Morale is at an all-time low in the Bulldog’s locker room when Nat, Ziigwan (Blair Lamora), and Miigwan (Keilani Elizabeth Rose) call Shoresy and Sanguient into the corridor to inquire about the team. Shoresy practically tells them it doesn’t matter because there are no excuses and returns to the locker room alone.  It doesn’t take Shoresy long to get them fired up again. Things are much different when they return to the ice this time. After their first goal, the Bulldogs capitalize on the momentum and win the game 5 to 4.

Shoresy and Laura meet several days after the big win where he discusses what happened after the win, although he claims he doesn’t remember much of it. What he does remember is that the team finished shaving their heads and finally took advantage of “Gorgeous’ Gord Gallant’s (Nick Laporte) seafood. The brief meeting also reveals that Shoresy was recently approached by Emma (Vanessa Matsui) with the opportunity to become an analyst on BROdude.

The episode ends with Shoresy revealing the BROdude offer to Nat, who asks how much they offered him. He asks why and she practically tells him that he’s going to coach and she’ll need to match the offer. Before the credit roll, there is a message, declaring that this is the end of Shoresy……. Part 1.

Shoresy Review

It was nice to see the Bulldogs go out on a high note. I also appreciated the camaraderie and rallying around Shoresy, despite the disguised insulting and joking. When it came down to brass tacks, people were more than willing to stand behind him as a man. I’d hate to see the series end after only 4 seasons, but according to the credits, it appears that’s the way things are going. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see how things shape up. I’d give the episode a 6 out of 10 just because it felt fulfilling.
