Episode 3 opens with Shoresy (Jared Keeso) and the Bulldogs attempting to cut a promo for Laurentian Pre-Owned Auto Sales. This starts bad and only gets worse as Dolo (Jonathan-Ismael Diaby), Brant ‘Goody’ Goodleaf (Andrew Antsnen), and Ted Hitchcock (Terry Ryan) alternate as the spokesperson.
Anik Archambault (Kim Cloutier) from BROdude provides an update on another round of the Senior Tournament. Despite the Barrelmen’s 2 to 3 loss against the Reds, the Freezer Twins put on another impressive bone-crunching performance. Rapides de Rawdon’s team owner, Marie Mae, proves that her formula for violence is an effective one as they remain undefeated against the Soo Hunt.
Shoresy stays on top of Dolo, Hitch, and Goody’s nutrition and hydration by cooking them a meal of chicken, brown rice, and broccoli at the team apartment. The topic of conversation soon becomes their upcoming match against the Vaughan Canadesi and the dirtiest player in the league, Marco ‘Sly’ Sylvestri (Brad Bonello).
The mention of Sly segues into his and Laura Mohr’s (Camille Sullivan) earlier interview. He comes off as smug and vain as she questions him about his time in Boston and dirty tactics. The interview ends with Laura ominously warning him that her favorite thing about hockey is that there is always justice.
Ziigwan (Blair Lamora) and Miigwan (Keilani Elizabeth Rose) are debating the best spokesperson for the auto sales promo when they are approached by ‘Gorgeous’ George Gallant (Nick Laporte). He not only asks them for a place to store all the extra seafood that he brought but he asks Ziigwan out on a date. Although her response is not shown at the moment, they soon arrive in Nat’s (Tasya Teles) office where Shoresy is complaining about an interview with Jory Jordan (Maclean Fish). Miigwan teasingly shares Gorgeous’ proposal with Nat the second Shoresy is gone. When Nat asks how she responded, the footage abruptly cuts to Shoresy’s interview.
Before filming gets underway, Shoresy jokingly describes the interview as granting a ‘Make A Wish’ while Jory teases him about Laura. Despite his non-stop ranting just seconds ago, Shoresy remains silent during the interview. When he does finally speak, he asks why they aren’t doing BROdude instead of the Kids Sports Report. Once Nat tells him that they are, the footage cuts to Dolo’s interview with Anik.
During an all-access interview with Anik, Dolo shows her how the Jims (Jon Mirasty/Brandon Nolan/Jordan Nolan) prepare for a big game. During the segment, she also asks Sanguinet (Harlan Blayne Kytwayhat) about his winning formula since taking over as coach. He attributes his nearly flawless record to, ‘wearing his heart on his sleeve.’ Once Shoresy interrupts the interview, Dolo leads Anik to the locker room where she questions Mark Michaels (Ryan McDonell).
Despite Michaels’ best attempts to remain the subject of the interview, Anik quickly finds her attention drawn to Hitch, Shoresy, and Fish (Jacob Smith) who are in the middle of a spirited debate about nicknames.
After the fans pile in for the game and the Bulldogs make their way through the tunnel, Shoresy wastes very little time getting under Sly’s skin. It appears to work and it’s not long before the Bulldogs are up 1 to 0. Shortly after that, they are up 2 to nothing. Although Shoresy grows more relentless as the game goes on, it is Jordan Hruska who pays with his top front teeth when he catches a high stick from Sly.
From the sidelines, Shoresy attempts to provide Hruska some solace by ensuring him that the shot will guarantee him some TV time. This is later proven true when Hruska returns to the game after getting sewed up. Upon his return, it becomes a matter of who gets to avenge him. Although there is some spirited debating, it is Goody who gets the honor, but it’s only after Shoresy lures Sly into attacking him from behind.
Later that evening during an interview with Anik, Shoresy attempts to downplay the hit, claiming that he is hurt. However, once the cameras are gone, he limps to the locker room.
The episode ends with Shoresy limping to the locker room where he witnesses an argument between JJ Frankie JJ (Max Bouffard) and Marie Mae. Shoresy realizes why Frankie has been so distracted. After interrupting and running Frankie off, Shoresy learns that things are even worse. As it turns out, Laurence Lebouf (Laurence Leboeuf) now wants nothing to do with Frankie either because of something that happened after the NOSHO party.
Shoresy Review
Not a terrible episode and a great way to continue what should be an already exciting season. That said, I’m not sure how much I’m going to like the theme of messy romantic entanglements. It appears that this could be the way things are headed now that both Ziigwan and Frankie have romantic interests. I did appreciate that this episode focused more on an actual game and the opening promo wasn’t horrendous. I’d give the episode a 5.4 out of 10.
