On February 22, 2019, Netflix announced that it had ordered a new scripted series Firefly Lane, which will be based on the novel by Kristin Hannah. The New York Times bestselling author is set to serve as co-executive producer for the upcoming series which will span over ten episodes. Maggie Friedman will take the reins as writer, showrunner and executive producer.

The story follows Kate and Tully. They meet as young girls and develop an inseparable relationship throughout thirty years of ups and downs. An unthinkable betrayal breaks them apart and they go in separate directions. It is unclear whether the girls will be able to reconcile.
