I’ll Be Seeing You – The episode opens in the past, with Joe Lynskey (Adam Best) taking teenage Marian Price (Hazel Doupe) and Dolours Price (Lola Petticrew) on a border run. In the present, older Dolours Price (Maxine Peake) explains how they drove to the Borderlands, had their vehicle stuffed with dynamite, and smuggled it into Belfast. In the past, Marian and Dolours wait while Peader (Gerry Cannon) conceals dynamite in their vehicle. Younger Brendan “Dark” Hughes (Anthony Boyle) arrived with a bandaged hand. Dolours asks if the engine head will cause the dynamite to explode. Peadar (Gerry Cannon) assures her that it will be all right. In the present, Mackers of the Belfast Project (Seamus O’Hara) asks older Dolours how much dynamite was in the car that day. She says 200 pounds. She and Marian were taking over Dark’s run. In the past, Dark expresses his need to find the snitch. Gerry Adams (Josh Finan) questions how they can run an army with men who cannot be trusted. Joe gives Marian and Dolours fake passports before they reach the border. As a border soldier (Will Pattle) checks Dolours’ passport, she makes small talk. Another soldier asks them to get out of the vehicle. Joe warns that he will notice the door is heavier than usual and grabs his pistol. Seeing a tattoo on her leg, the first soldier approves them to pass. Joe exhales deeply. Marian teases Dolours about showing off her legs.
Older Dolours tells Mackers that between 1970 and 1972, the IRA planted a thousand bombs to take out as many soldiers and cops as possible. She claims to have believed Gerry when he said every death puts them closer to winning the war. By 1972, West Belfast was under his control. In the past, Gerry and Collette (Megan Cusack) get intimate. Spotting approaching soldiers, a boy (Archie Chapman) starts to alert Gerry but a soldier caps a hand over his mouth. Collette wakes up, sees a light in the next room, and warns Gerry. The soldiers barge in, find Gerry nude on the floor, and escort him to Palace Barracks. British Brigadier Frank Kitson (Rory Kinnear) watches two officers (Paul Tinto, Eddie Elks) offer Gerry a briefcase filled with cash. Gerry denies being Gerry and identifies himself as Joseph McGuigan. The officers beat him but he continues to deny being Gerry. Watching from outside the door, an officer questions if they have the wrong man. Kitson says it is him. Gerry refuses to talk. Kitson tries another approach by manipulating Gerry into believing they accept he is McGuigan. An officer promises Gerry that he will be interned under his name but Collette will not be permitted to visit him. As Gerry starts to sign the documents, an officer interrupts the meeting. Private Sarah Jane (Amy Molloy) informs Kitson that the British Home Office wanting Gerry released for negotiations. A short time later, officers dump a beaten Gerry off on an isolated road where Marian and Dolours are waiting. Dolours says William Whitelaw (Nicholas Murchie) told the SDLP that the IRA may be willing to negotiate if Gerry is released. Marian tells him that he will leave for London tomorrow for peace talks.
Jean McConville (Judith Roddy) and Helen McConville (Emily Healy) hear a man yelling ceasefire. The shooting stops. Tucker McConville (Lennox Loughran), Michael McConville (Rylee Neilly-Large), Agnes McConville (Ava-Rose Gallagher), Billy McConville (Matthew Murphy), Jim Mcconville (Conor Trainor), Susie McConville (Sarah Gordon), and Archie McConville (Isaac Heslip) are playing outside. At a party, Dolours tells everyone that Joe is in love with Rachel. Francis (Art Parkinson) and Chalkie (Cuan Hosty-Blaney) tease him. Later at Pink Iguana, Rachel doesn’t show up to meet Joe. The border soldier greets Dolours. They make small talk while having a drink. He invites her to his room but she declines and returns to the bar. Feeling down, Joe tells her that women lack self-respect and assures her that Alfred Price would have spat in her face if he saw her with the border soldier. As she starts to leave, he apologizes. Angry, she calls him a foul name while walking away.
London – Gerry, Daithi (Lloyd Hutchinson), IRA Chief of Staff Sean Mac Stiofain (Ian Beattie), Whitelaw, and two other IRA leaders arrive for the peace talks. Believing it is a trap, Sean insists on watching the door. As negotiations begin, Sean reads a statement, demanding the removal of British troops from occupied Ireland and a public apology no later than July 10, 1972. Peace talks ended and war resumed the following day.
Jean asks Tucker to get away from the window. They hear a man screaming for help. Jean goes to get a better look and finds a British soldier (Liam Wheeler) injured. Helen pleads with her not to intervene but she insists. An intruder (Bernadette Brown) sees her helping the soldier. The next morning, Jean finds the from of her flat vandalized and “Brit Lover” spray painted across the door. Elsewhere, Gerry informs Dolours of his new secret squad, The Unknowns, and her point of contact is Wee Pat (Martin McCann) would be her point of contact. She accepts his offer but only if he agrees to let Marian join. Ian (Bill Jones) knocks on flat 578. An IRA insurgent holding a baby answers the door. Ian shoots him and flees. Jimmy Dooley (Ryan McParland) and Dark see to the injured man who claims the shooter was IRA. Dolours is doing laundry when Pat arrives unexpectedly. He tells her that Gerry wants them to kill Joe who used an IRA insurgent to shoot Rachel’s husband. Later, Dolours picks up Joe and drives him to the border. He apologizes for how he spoke to her at the pub. She assures him that it isn’t necessary. He says she has a good heart. Border soldiers permit them to cross. She pulls up in front of a café and goes to call Marian. She tells her that she doesn’t think she can go through with it. Marian says all she needs to do is drive. Dolours returns to the car to find it empty. Standing a short distance away, Joe asks if she is ready to leave. A car is waiting when they arrive. Joe explains what happened between him and Rachel, thanks her for the ride, and shakes her hand. She weeps all the way to the border. The episode ends.
