As the episode begins, we see Jody (Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness) recording a video on her computer. She tells her mother not to worry about her. She explains that she is leaving and will be fine. Nelly (Lennie James) smokes a cigarette. He is disturbed by music nearby. He plays around with his roommate. Then, he gets a little liquor and takes some pills. Nelly leaves his apartment, while Jody leaves her home. Nelly gives supplies to the locals. Jody continues on her way. In the earlier video, Jody tells her mother that she’ll be back after one week. She urges her mother to let her be. She explains that she is just going to see her dad. After the intro, Nelly enters the pub. He speaks with Melon (Stephen Graham) and other locals. In the middle of the conversation, Nelly gets a call from his daughter. She hangs up without speaking. Jody enters a lounge.

Later that night, Stace (Susan Lynch) tells Luke (Alexander Arnold) to take his joint outside. Nelly tries to help. Nelly eventually forces them outside. Jody continues waiting. A car flashes its lights outside. She heads outside and gets into the vehicle. The car pulls away. Nelly finally returns home. He stops by and visits Zita (Camilla Beeput). Then, he takes antibiotics to his partner. Nelly gets cozy with his partner, before the police knock on the door. The door is busted down. Nelly is arrested on suspicion of abduction. At the station, Nelly is questioned by DS O’Halloran (Nadine Marshall) and DCI Thorpe (Alan McKenna). He is asked if he living with Martine Betts. Nelly gives them the run around. Nelly is asked why he didn’t work at the dance club on Wednesday or Thursday. We learn that Nelly has been arrested numerous times.

Thorpe mentions Jody. Nelly doesn’t recognize a Jody. Thorpe explains that it is Jody McGory. He is shown the video of Jody. He learns that someone grabbed Jody. Thorpe leaves the room to speak with Claire (Suranne Jones). Claire explains that Nelly can be cruel. The police begin assembling a list of potential suspects and people linked to Nelly. Teens is released. Nelly learns that he has supposedly been communicating with Jody for the past nine months. He is told about Jody’s actions the day before. He is shown a picture of the car. He learns that his number is the last one that Jody called. He is accused of coaxing Jody and convincing her to leave home. He explains that he has never been in a chat room. He admits he has never been nothing in Jody’s life. He tells them about Claire’s sister Ruth.

At home, Claire’s partner comforts her. He still believes that Nelly is responsible. She eventually breaks down and begins sobbing. Nelly remains in jail. O’Halloran admits that the conversations do not sound like Nelly. They’re too sophisticated for him. Thorpe agrees to release Nelly. However, he wants her to keep an eye on him. A social media page is created for Jody. Nelly is told that his clothing should be returned in a few weeks. The detective gives him a little money. He explains that whoever is responsible knows him. Claire learns that Nelly has been let go, but is still a person of interest. When he returns home, Nelly finds that his clothing are gone. He visits Zita. She seems worried what Nelly could do with her child. She explains that she is asking what she has to. Nelly gets clothing and heads into town.

A detective follows him. Nelly gets on a bus. He realizes that he is being followed. Nelly makes a run for it in hopes of shaking them. Thorpe learns that he has run. Nelly is tracked down trying to speak with Claire. Claire’s partner, Barry (Barry Ward), argues with Nelly. Claire listens from inside. Nelly suggests the police should look at Barry. Claire emerges and admits she is okay. Claire and Nelly speak in private. Claire isn’t convinced that Nelly isn’t involved. He explains that Nelly wrote him a few years back. He admits she was three when he last saw her. He confesses that he had barely given Jody a second thought until the police arrested him. When Nelly leaves, he finds a memorial for Jody. It includes a picture of Jody and a boy, Dylan. Nelly heads back to the pub and sings for the crowd.

Teens’s son asks Nelly for his mother’s keys back. Marky (Jimmy Walker) insists he isn’t going to ask again. Nelly returns the keys. Soon, Nelly finds himself arguing with Zita and the others. They tell him that he is a piece of shat. Nelly tries to call the phone number back. He hears Jody’s voice. He speaks with Stace about what Marky said. Melon explains that the police gave away his relationships. Luke gives Nelly his condolences. Later, Nelly tells Stace that he is going to find his daughter. Melon is stopped by the detectives. They put him in the car. Zita gets a call from Nelly later that night. He tries to smooth things over with her.  When the call ends, Nelly is attacked by two people. They leave him moaning on the ground.

 

Save Me Review

The opener of Save Me was a tad bit slow, but it picked up in the end. The acting was great from the main characters. Plus, the story is pretty fascinating so far. Someone close to Nelly is responsible for kidnapping Jody. So, who is it? I am enjoying it and will definitely keep watching. The opener scores a 7.5 out of 10.
