As the episode begins, Nelly (Lennie James) sits in his car while Claire (Suranne Jones) speaks with Jody (Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness) in her bed. After the intro, Nelly is met by a round of applause at Stace’s pub. Stace (Susan Lynch) explains that Claire called and told them what had happened. Nelly hugs Goz (Thomas Coombes), Tam (Jason Flemyng), and the others. Teens admits she didn’t think Nelly would ever find Jody and she is glad that he proved her wrong. Zita (Camilla Beeput) enters a few seconds later. Everyone wants to celebrate but Nelly seems withdrawn. Melon (Stephen Graham) tells him that he never gave up and that is giving his motivation. Nelly gives Melon the woman’s cellphone and asks him to see what he can find on it. Nelly offers to speak with Bernie (Alice May Feetham) but Melon doesn’t want that.

Stace and Daisy (Remmie Milner) give Nelly his new yellow coat. Nelly freaks out and begins crying. Nelly calms down when he notices that Bernie is there. Then, he tells Zita to give him a second before he switches coats and bins the old one. Meanwhile, Claire speaks with Jody about the day she arrived and how it made her feel. Zita comforts Nelly who admits he might’ve missed Jody. She says it doesn’t matter if it was luck or not since he found her regardless. Claire tells her daughter that she slayed her. Barry listens from the doorway as Claire continues speaking and Jody listening. Tam returns home to Grace (Olive Gray) and her friend. Grace learns about Jody and wants to chat with him.

Tam says it has been a messy night so they should sleep and Nelly will be there tomorrow. Daisy tells Goz that he is good while Melon asks Bernie if she is coming back home. She talks about chips. Zita wakes up in the middle of the night and Nelly is not there. He takes the red car to a parking garage and goes through the belongings in the trunk. Then, he snaps a few pictures of documents he has found in the trunk. In the morning, Jody stares at a picture of herself on the wall before she sits down with DS O’Halloran (Nadine Marshall) and another detective. They promise Jody that they’ll get the person responsible for her kidnapping. Jody’s friend Dylan records a video of the family leaving with Jody.

When they leave, Nelly arrives and receives a call from Grace but he doesn’t answer it. Melon makes breakfast for Bernie but she doesn’t like porridge. She gets up and leaves Melon sitting there by himself. During this time, Jody is taken to the hospital so they can inspect. We see that she has bruises on her arms and back. She is given Doxycycline tablets. Jody cries when her private area is inspected by a doctor. After that, Nelly speaks with Dylan who says Jody looks old to him now. Nelly tries to give Dylan advice for speaking with Jody when he gets the chance to speak with her again. His phone rings before Claire and the family return. Tam is calling and Grace has been calling all morning too but Nelly isn’t answering.

Dylan goes outside to speak with Jody while Nelly’s phone rings inside. Dylan tells Jody about school and how things have changed while admitting nobody sits next to him. Claire encourages Nelly to answer his phone and he does before Grace takes the phone. He promises her that they’re going after Paul but she thinks everything will change now. Jody falls into the water so Barry and Claire have to jump in and save her. After that, Grace calls Nelly and tells him not to bother. Meanwhile, Jody is taken to the hospital and Barry speaks with Nelly about Jody. Bernie confronts Melon and wants to know why he was attracted to her when she was 13. He admits he saw her that way but that is why he stayed away from her.

He says he felt a bump just like he did when she came after him a few years later and when they got married. Melon explains he is going to do like Nelly and stay true. He also promises to wait forever. Bernie leaves anyway. Meanwhile, Tam speaks with Grace until she walks out. He follows but lets her go before we jump over to Dylan and Nelly. Nelly tells Dylan that this wasn’t his fault before Nelly is left alone with her while Grace calls a friend to come get her. Zita’s son runs into Grace and she tells him to come with her. The babysitter finds out that the boy is missing seconds later so she calls Zita. Nelly admits he was wrong not to contact Jody when he had the chance. Nelly is interrupted when he learns about Zita’s son and Grace.

Zita searches frantically for her son but he is on a rooftop with Grace. Nelly rushes to the apartment complex while calling Grace but he can’t get through. Zita is angry when Nelly arrives and he learns that she called the police. Nelly spots the woman from Richard’s bar and learns that she is there to pick up Grace. She says Grace isn’t going to hurt the boy but she doesn’t know what to do know. She agrees to call Grace so Nelly can speak with her. Nelly negotiates with Grace until he finds out where she is hiding at. Nelly tells the woman where to meet him and Grace before running into Tam. They go together while Dylan lets Jody watch the video he made about everything that has happened.

Nelly and Tam make it to Grace. Tam agrees to take the boy back to Zita while Nelly stays with Grace. Nelly apologizes and says he knew she wouldn’t hurt the boy before they hug. The police arrive and take Grace away. Nelly blames Stace for leading the police to them. Nelly tells Grace that he’ll be in to see her as soon as he can. Jody begins speaking at the hospital. She wants to know where he is. After the chaos ends at the apartment complex, Nelly is left alone.

 

Save Me Review

This was a decent episode of Save Me. In the last two episodes, the show has gotten very sad. It is impossible not to find the show emotional. Nelly has found himself being pulled in two directions. He wants to be with Jody so he can help and build a relationship with her. On the other hand, he has promised Grace that he’ll help her with the Paul situation. With the finale coming next, Nelly will have to act quickly to balance both problems.

I am eager to see where the writers are going to take us. This episode scores a 7.5 out of 10. Previous recaps of Save Me can be found on Reel Mockery.
