As the episode begins, Kane (Toby Wallace) and Stix (Kaden Hartcher) approach a Fascist gathering. They listen as Blake (Lachy Hulme) preaches to the crowd. Soon, a group of anti-fascists arrive. Before too long, the two groups fight it out. With help from Kane and Stix, Blake and Zoe (Sophie Lowe) manage to escape. Several others are arrested. Blake agrees to take the boys home to enjoy some of his whisky. Soon, journalists arrive on the scene. They speak with Laila (Nicole Chamoun) and Farid (Julian Maroun). Farid was injured during the fight. Laila agrees to speak with the media and give her full name, despite the others encouraging her not too. Meanwhile, the Anti-Fascists group watches video of the incident. They find a partial picture of Kane and want to know more.

Blake speaks with the others about the incident. They suspect that Spider (Travis Cotton) might have tipped off their enemies about the gathering. Spider denies it, but Blake blames him anyway. He kicks him out of the Patriots. Before leaving, Spider tells him that he is an animal. Then, the group watches a news report about the incident. Laila pops Farid’s nose back into place. Blake gives Stix and Kane pizza. Then, he offers them a job. They agree to think about it. Blake shows them his old antique guns, before sharing whisky with the boys. Then, the police arrive and arrest Blake. Kane invites Zoe to have a drink of whisky. She refuses and sticks with wine. The college’s professor agrees to do some research on Kane’s pictures. The following day, Kane and Stix get a new roommate. He is foreign. When he leaves, Kane throws his belongings out of the window.

Farid goes to work. He is told to go home, because there have been complaints about his appearance. He refuses. Ms. Jordan arrives and visits her husband. She tells him that their cash flow is great. She turns off his television and tells him she will not be able to visit each week. She leaves moments later. At the local prison, Bad Dog attacks Cindi (Markella Kavenagh) and tries to take her money. Cindi is given a deadline for paying up. Cindi gets a visit from her brother, Kane, and Stix moments later. Cindi pleads with Kane to break her out. He tells her that she needs to sit tight and wait it out. Afterwards, Kane calls Zoe and asks for work. At the college, the anti-fascist girl speaks with her professor about Kane’s picture. He insists that the boy is a puzzle and he’ll figure him out. Kane and Stix work, while Cindi and her girlfriends begin plotting something.

Kane returns to Zoe, after dropping Stix off at home. He immediately makes a move on her. They make out briefly, before Zoe stops him. Kane insists that Zoe will leave Blake one day. Then, he learns about Eddy (Russell Frost), who turned Zoe into a prostitute. Blake saved her. Kane gets Eddy’s name and promises to make him pay, since Blake didn’t. At the prison, Cindi and her girlfriends beat up Bad Dog. Then, they make their escape. They manage to flee from the prison. Kane tracks down Eddy and gives him a beating. He takes a picture of him and sends it to Zoe. Blake tells Zoe that Kane reminds him of himself at that age. He seems unafraid. Blake admits he wishes he felt that way again.

Ms. Jordan gets a call. The caller hands up immediately after she answers. Then, Blake confronts her in the parking garage. He tells her that he knows who is father is. Then, he disappears.

 

Romper Stomper Review

This sure wasn’t a good start for Romper Stomper. It could have been good, but it was ultimately very cheesy. The Patriots seemed interesting enough, but the hacking and anti-fascists were cheesy and silly. Kane and Stix were fairly intriguing. Perhaps they’ll be enough to keep the series from falling apart? I’ll continue watching for the likes of David Wenham and Dan Wyllie. Otherwise, I am not too impressed yet. Hopefully it gets better with time.
