Do You Lick Everything? The episode begins with Lucille (Loren Loubser) sarcastically telling Constable Klaasen (Megan Alexander) that her pale ale and milk chocolate make a “healthy breakfast.” Charlene says after what happened at the Burger’s farm last night, she deserves it. Lucille points out that it happened Tuesday night, not last night. Charlene suggests no one should be exposed to that level of brutality, which is why she plans to request a raise. Lucille reminds her of being a cop before asking if Dirk did it. After swearing he’s guilty, Charlene says the scent of human remains never goes away.
Khaya Meyer (Tony Kgoroge) interrogates Tannie Maria/Maria Purvis (Maria Doyle Kennedy) about trespassing. She admits to entering the crime scene after Martine Burger (Tinarie Van Wyk Loots) asked for her help. He asks her to stay on topic, not talk about her recipes. While explaining what happened, she remembers entering Martine’s home with Jessie September (Kyle Fisher). She says it appeared as if Martine had been “plucked from the kitchen,” which remained “untouched.” She tells Jessie that Dirk Burger (Bennie Fourie) probably never returned after Martine died. Jessie says, “Before he murdered her.” Tannie Maria questions if the old milk and fruit should be tossed. Jessie warns her to not touch anything.
Tannie Maria utilizes her tongue to identify pomegranate juice on the dining counter. Khaya scolds her for potentially leaving her DNA on the counter. She assures him that he’ll know how it got there.
Charlene September (Khadija Heeger) informs Regardt Snyman (Arno Greeff) that Jessie never came home last night. He denies she was with him but at the Burger crime scene. Frustrated, she admits to having canceled her shift last night. He apologizes for her grief. She tells him that she knows he has intentions with Jessie. Piet Kasin (Elton Landrew) greets Charlene.
As Tannie Maria provides a list of food at the crime scene, Khaya cuts her off. She asks Piet if her Veldskoen shoes have been found. He assures her that she will know as soon as the police get a tip. She admits to feeling distressed knowing her shoes are in the possession of a killer. Khaya says her shoes aren’t the police’s priority. She has a flashback of two gunshots being fired into the Burger house. She touches Jessie’s forehead with the tip of her finger before putting it to her tongue. She says pickle juice.
After asking Charlene if she and the children are okay, Jessie tells her that she’s okay. Charlene says she’s glad.
Tannie Maria admits wishing she and Jessie had witnessed the murder. He warns her that witnessing a murder isn’t something anyone would want to live with. While saying the vehicle left in one or two minutes, she remembers gradually approaching the window. The gardener, Lawrence’s lifeless body lies on the ground. Back to the present, she admits to being confused about her missing shoes. Khaya suggests the shoes may be utilized by the killer to identify and eliminate witnesses before apologizing for being so bold.
In a flashback, Grace Zihlangu (Lee Duru) breaks down when she sees Lawrence. Tannie Maria tells Khaya that it sticks in her mind. He asks her to contact him if she thinks of anything else. She suggests Lawrence’s killer couldn’t be Dirk since he was hospitalized when he orders her to stay out of the investigation. He informs her that she and Jessie will be treated like suspects. She assures him that they’re not real suspects. Raising his voice, he says it’s his job to investigate both murders, not hers.
Aileen McKlintlock (Robyn Scott) shuffles through her mail when Gordon McKlintlock (Richard Wright-Firth) reminds her of what he said about her not writing.
Charlene claims medicine boxes and bottles have been going missing at the hospital. Regardt asks if she believes there is an addict at the hospital. She says not because they’re empty. Jessie asks why anyone would take empty medicine boxes. Charlene suggests the culprit may utilize them to replicate real pills. When he warns that their resources are limited, Jessie tells her that she’ll investigate. Charlene says the public may blame it on the hospital workers. Jessie assures her that the investigation will be off the record.
While embracing Tannie Maria and Jessie, Hattie Wilson (Jennifer Steyn) breathes a sigh of relief. She suggests they turn their focus to work. Tannie Maria promises she will for now on. Jessie says she’ll focus on work before heading off to the hospital.
Chef Jeff (Schalk Bezuidenhout) writes Tannie Maria a letter that reads, “I’ve got a terrible secret. I mean, you are not going to think it’s a big deal, but I’m afraid my fiancé will leave me if I tell her the truth.” Jeff serves his girlfriend an egg. He admits to having no cooking skills except boiled eggs. He asks how can he up his game. He admits to not having enough courage to tell his girlfriend the truth before signing the letter, Eggmaster.
Hattie ignores a call from Marius Rabie (Grant Swanby).
Jessie asks Nurse Christine (Melissa de Vries) when she first noticed the medicine boxes were missing. Georgie says the medicine bottles near the nurse’s station, not the pharmacy went missing about three weeks ago. She claims Dr. Visagie suggested it was nothing to be concerned about. Dirk yells, “Dirty bi**h.” She admits to being Dirk killed Martine when Charlene asks if that is why she wanted to conduct the investigation. Jessie tells her that she was asking about the missing medicine bottles when Dirk yelled.
Cornel Van Wyk (Alan Committie) asks how Hattie is doing. Tannie Maria suggests he ask her the next time he calls the Gazette.
Tannie Maria tells Morag that she’s been thinking of pomegranates. As she takes a bite of pomegranate, a bird bites her leg. With a bit of effort, she shoos the bird away.
Charlene says her young cancer patient, Ashwin’s parents can only visit on weekends because they come from a farm in Bonnievale. Jessie tells her that she’s sorry for not coming home last night. Charlene admits to expecting a lot from her but she’s so grown up. Jessie says she doesn’t feel that way all the time.
Jessie spends time with Ashwin (Kudzi Usaihwevu).
In a letter to Jeff, Tannie Marie suggests he be honest with his wife. She prepares her bacon and marmalade sandwich recipe.
Jessie informs Charlene that the missing pill boxes have been solved. She and Ashwin make a castle out of them.
Jeff serves his wife Tannie Marie’s bacon and marmalade sandwiches. After taking a bite, she takes claim of the leftovers.
Khaya gives in to Tannie Maria’s bacon and marmalade sandwiches. After a few bites, he takes off with the platter.
Tannie Maria steps into a pile of poo while trying to run the bird out of her vegetable patch.
Piet informs Khaya that Tannie Maria’s sandwich platter is missing. After denying any knowledge of the food, Khaya asks if Martine’s final autopsy is ready. Piet says the autopsy report revealed a blow to the back of the head killed Martine. Khaya says what about her cellphone record and bank accounts. Piet tells him that the cellphone record has been authorized and the bank account is being processed. Khaya smiles while asking if Tannie Maria is now preparing him food. Piet says isn’t he lucky? With Piet gone, Khaya enjoys another bacon and marmalade sandwich while taking a call.
Hattie leaves Matt (Shaun Chad Smit) a voicemail asking if he’s available at 8pm for some ice cream when Cornel pops around the corner. He tells her that it’s been some time since he saw her. She reminds him of seeing him just yesterday at the Koop. He invites her to join him on the West Coast where he’s to receive a regional award. She suggests they meet for coffee to discuss his monthly advertising strategy. He leans over to give her a kiss when she politely rushes him out of her office.
Tannie Maria talks to Morag on the porch when a gold SUV passes by her house.
Grace Informs Piet that Lawrence had concerns about talking to the police. Piet tells her that he understands. She claims Lawrence was out walking on the night Martine was murdered. He asks if he had plans to meet someone. He says it was common for him to take walks at night. She says Lawrence told her that the lights at the farmhouse turned on and then off before a vehicle raced away. He asks if Lawrence was able to identify the vehicle. She says he thought it belonged to Dirk. He asks if the driver saw Lawrence. She questions if he told her everything.
Regardt takes a seat beside Jessie when Dirk threatens to make Anna Pretorius (Daneel Van Der Walt) pay for Martine’s death. She says, “I’d like to see you try” from her wheelchair. Jessie tells him that she made a promise to focus on work, not Martine’s murder investigation. He asks what she wants to do. She describes him as “lovely” before kissing him on the cheek, which brings a big smile to his face.
Hattie enjoys a foot massage from Matt. She removes her coat so he can massage her shoulders when she receives a text message from Ashwin. She asks Stefan to read it. He reminds her of his name being Matt.
Piet convinces Khaya to join him and Regardt for a drink.
Hattie breaks down in tears as Matt reads Ashwin’s text.
Regardt admits to getting emotional when he thinks about how he is doing the same thing as his father. He promises to marry Jessie someday. Piet suggests he ask her first. They toast to Khaya being a “black cop.”
Jessie tells Tannie Maria that Dirk was hospitalized when Lawrence was murdered. She suggests they owe it to Grace, Lawrence, and Martine. Tannie Maria tells her that she’s right.
Khaya asks what happened to his father. Piet says he committed suicide and his brother is a drug addict. Regardt dedicates his song to Jessie.
Gordon warns Aileen that Maria Purvis will never reply.
Tannie Maria tells Jessie that she believes the pomegranate juice may be an important clue. She says it was nowhere to be found at the crime scene. They agree that the killer brought it to the crime scene or left with it. Tannie Marie questions why Lawrence agreed to meet with the killer unless they were already acquaintances. Jessie asks if it was possible for Dirk to leave the hospital.
Dirk hobbles past a sleeping Regardt to Anna’s hospital room. He places a pillow over her face as the episode comes to an end.
Recipes For Love And Murder Review
Regardt’s song was the hit of the show. It was lovely and charming.
Charlene filed a police report for missing medicine boxes. With the police too busy with Martine’s case, Jessie implemented her own investigation. It didn’t take her long to find the culprit, Charlene’s cancer patient named Ashwin.
Hattie rejects Cornel’s advances. The show eluded to them dating previously but didn’t go into detail.
Khaya couldn’t resist Tannie’s Maria’s bacon and marmalade sandwiches. Piet confronts him about the missing sandwiches. He denied any knowledge of them.
Tannie Maria and Jessie’s shoes had gone missing from the Burger house. Khaya suspected the killer took the shoes to identify any witnesses.
Jeff asks Tannie Maria’s advice on how to build up the courage to tell his wife that he can’t cook. his cooking skills are limited to a boiled egg. The show didn’t go into detail but it did show his wife enjoying Tannie Maria’s bacon and marmalade sandwiches.
Jessie and Tannie Marie agree to continue their investigation into what happened to Lawrence and Martine.
As the episode nears an end, Dirk quietly slips past a sleeping Regardt to place a pillow over Anna’s face. Regardt will face repercussions, regardless of the outcome.
Lawrence was apparently killed for what he knew. Whose next, Grace, Jessie, or Tannie Maria?
