You Just Haven’t Earned It Yet, Baby – As the episode opens, Costello (Daisy May Cooper) informs Lenny (Adrian Edmondson) that she sold her book, “Diamond Beavers.” She says Barnaby reached out to her when the Pashmina video went viral. Lenny tells her that Salinger was possibly discovered in the same manner. She admits it only took her yelling at a high-class woman. He assures her that she deserves it. She says since they’re still penniless, they’re following the Council’s direction and moving to Somerset. She promises to return the following spring once her book is available at Foyles. She displays his painting on the wall of an art museum. He warns the “one moment of perfection” in life will be short-lived.
Selby Florian (Jack Farthing) gets a visit from Fen (Daniel Phung). After giving him a phone, Fen shows him a post about Costello’s book being published. Selby suggests she will no longer need him once the money rolls in. They leave to find a private place for sex.
Costello complains about the remote location of the Council flat. Gloria (Ronke Adekoluejo) suggests being grateful for a home. Costello admits to not wanting to leave in peace. Gloria intentionally swerves the hearse back and forth across the road when they spot a police cruiser. The police officer (Oli Meredith) tells Gloria her breathalyzer is over the limit. She claims to have had a few drinks last night. He says she will be booked in a Minehead. When Costello scolds her, the officer threatens to arrest her for public nuisance. Irate, she asks where is the public. Sitting on the shoulder of the road with their belongings, Costello promises Iris to stick it out. They look up to see a horse and carriage approaching.
Selby tells his therapist, Kenneth (Ken Nwosu) Costello’s book deal made him feel “worthless” so he had sex with Fen. He explains his first “fagging” experience with Oliver at boarding school. He says Oliver is an MP with a wife and children. Kenneth asks how Oliver broke his heart. Selby claims the housemaster informed him 10 minutes later of his father’s suicide. He describes the day as the “saddest” and “horniest” of his life.
Ferryman (Trevor Fox) helps Costello load their belongings onto his carriage. He says she will like Sunset Park, the only estate free of pedophilias. Iris asks what is a pedophile. He assures her she would know if she ever met one. Costello refuses to explain further.
Kenneth and Selby play a game. He asks how many times he left Iris. Selby denies leaving her voluntarily. When he professes to love her, Kenneth accuses him of sabotaging their relationship. Shoving him backward, Selby jumps on top of him while saying he doesn’t know. After saying that type of behavior is off-limit in the therapy room, Kenneth orders him to take a seat.
Costello and Iris arrive at Sunset Park. Grey (Siobhan Redmond) tells them that the last tenant died. Ferryman warns no cellular signal. Tennessee (Archie McCormick) welcomes them to “Hell.” Simon (Karl Pilkington) asks Costello why she wants to be a debt collector. She describes it as a “desperate decision. Social media users say she is somewhat of a “dick.” She admits to having an assault record. He hires her.
Tennessee says his grandmother lives with his grandmother in flat 104. After calling him “weird.” Iris admits to liking weirdos.
Simon suggests Costello go out with him. She asks if he has a mirror in his flat. He says it’s vital to keep the mind busy. Their first client is an old lady (Janie Booth) who claims to not have enough money for electricity. He warns each visit will get worse. Costello offers to help the old lady.
Grey asks Costello about her book. Costello explains the premises of her book. Grey asks if it is an autobiography. Costello tells her it’s fictional. Iris suggests it is partially true because they lived in a refuge. After calling social media users “crybabies” and “c*unts,” Grey admits being “lonely” when she first moved to Sunset Park.
Gloria informs Costello and Iris of her house arrest. Costello asks about the baby. Gloria denies trying to harm her daughter. Iris suggests naming the baby after her. Costello invites her to Sunset Park. Gloria says the commenters on the “Battered Bitches” video need what she gave Stacey Backshaw in “London Dungeon.”
After reading the nasty comments, Costello makes a video response about what she did to Stacey Backshaw. Iris tells Tennessee that she is having a meltdown like Britney.
Barnaby tells Costello the publisher needs someone who can represent the working class. He says too many people doubt her story. She pleads with him to go through with the book deal. He says she did it to herself when she threatened her critics. She tells him that it’s obvious he didn’t want a genuine author before the line is disconnected. She has a cigarette and a glass of wine. After finding her passed out on the sofa, Iris pours the wine down the drain. She calls Selby to inform him of the lost book deal and Costello’s drinking. She asks if he could visit them in Somerset. He walks out of rehab.
Costello buys two bottles of wine as the episode ends.
Rain Dogs Review
The Council assigns Costello and Iris a flat in Somerset. They spend some time with Lenny before they leave. Gloria is being silly behind the wheel when a police officer pulls her over. She is arrested and her father’s hearse is impounded, leaving Costello, Iris, and their assets on the side of the road. Ferryman and Grey take them the rest of the way to Sunset Park. Iris immediately hits it off with Tennessee, a lad who lives with his grandmother.
Barnaby offers Costello a book deal. “Diamond Beavers” is due to be published in the spring until she threatens her social media critics. Simon hires her to collect debt from the locals. After the first client, an older lady claims to not have enough money for electricity, she quits.
Selby gets a visit from Fen. Disappointed with Costello no longer needing him, he has sex with Fen. He later has a heart-to-heart with his therapist, Kenneth.
Gloria is having a girl. Iris suggests naming the baby girl after her.
Iris calls Selby after Costello starts drinking wine again. When she asks them to visit them in Somerset, he walks out of rehab.
