It’s Hard To Be A Saint In The City – The episode opens with Costello Jones (Daisy May Cooper) and Iris (Fleur Tashjian) receiving a visit from the Bailiff (Justin Marosa). They hurriedly pack their belongings into bags while he reminds them of their 2,997-pound back rent. She scolds them for arriving before 9am. Iris suggests contacting Florian Selby (Jack Farthing). Costello says he’s with his ill mother. They nod in agreement before heading out the door with their bags.
Preparing to be released from prison, Selby leaves his books for his soon-to-be former cellmate, Mason (Nick Blood). Mason reminds him of his protecting his “asshole” from predators before threatening to come looking for him if he fails to deposit money into his woman’s account. Selby says goodbye to the other inmates while making his way through the prison.
Costello and Iris plead with Shady (Tobias Jowett) to hold onto their belongings until tomorrow. He warns the bags will be trashed if they fail to return for them in the morning. During a taxi ride to Cheyne Walk, a 99-day sober alert pops up on Costello’s phone.
Selby arrives home to find a note, “Wasn’t expecting you back so soon, couldn’t cancel my plans” from his mum, Allegra. Costello ignores an incoming call from him. Iris pretends to be ill to convince the taxi driver to pull over when they take on running. Promising to have them a home by 5pm, she heads off to Gloria’s (Ronke Adekoleujo) and Iris to school. Upon arrival, she finds Gloria out and her phone locked in a vehicle.
Lenny (Adrian Edmondson) tries to rouse an intoxicated Gloria inside a West End phone booth. She rouses to realize her phone is missing before he assists her to stand and removes his coat. They head out for a drink.
Selby greets Iris outside her school. After giving her some cash, he asks her to keep their meeting a secret.
Nikki (Alison Lintott) makes a snide remark about Costello not paying her rent as her card is declined. She suggests getting a council flat. Costello sarcastically tells her that the council is just giving them away. Nikki says to foreigners. Brett (Stephen Wight) invites her to stay at his Millbank Estate flat.
Flesh Pot – Costello pleads with Konstantin (Dragos Mostenescu) to let her work. He reminds her of how she never showed up for her last shift. Lolly (Georgina Winter) refuses to let her work her shift.
Costello waits in the restroom while Selby gives a sexual favor to a man. She demands he stays away from them before heading to Brett’s place. He agrees to let her stay in exchange for cleaning the place. After leaving the flat, she calls the London and Southeast Homelessness Hotline.
Launderette – Shady refuses to permit Iris and Costello to stay overnight. She busts a window out of Gloria’s vehicle. Selby wins at Mahjong and ignores Fen’s (Daniel Phung) advances. Iris informs Costello of their meeting outside her school. They spend his money on lottery tickets.
After tucking Iris in, Brett asks her to put on a pink nightie. He describes her as having a “food bank body” before exposing himself. She flees to her room to call Selby who’s playing Mahjong. Brett reluctantly opens the door when he’s bombarded by Selby. He nearly attacks Costello as she reminds him that he’s not in prison.
Selby and Costello bust into her old flat. After covering her back rent, he enables GPS on her phone.
Costello is 100 days sober. Iris says she is proud of her when the cops arrive as the episode comes to an end.

Rain Dogs Synopsis
Costello and her daughter, Iris are evicted for rent nonpayment. She is unable to get in touch with her friend, Gloria who’s on a bender. After being released from prison, elite Selby reaches out to Costello with no luck. She accepts Brett’s offer to stay at his flat. When he gets weird, she calls Selby. They break into her former flat. He gives her money to cover the back rent.
Rain Dogs Review
There is nothing original about Costello’s story. She doesn’t pay her rent, the landlord evicts her. It’s that simple. I’m a big fan of Jack Farthing (Poldark) but it is questionable if Selby is a suitable role for him.
Expect to be overwhelmed by the fast pace. It’s difficult to process so much information so quickly. The show jump right in without a backstory. The cinematography, editing, and acting are great.
The episode deserves a 6.5. Get more Rain Dogs recaps here. Support Reel Mockery by clicking the link. Learn more about our onsite advertising by reaching out to our support staff.
