Platform 7 Series 1 Episode 4 Recap
The episode opens with Lisa Evans (Jasmin Jobson) watching Dr. Matthew “Matt” Goodson (Toby Regbo) and Sasha (Aimee Kelly) lying on the sofa. Sasha reminds Matt of their restaurant reservation. As he prepares to call to request the time pushed back, she asks if there is time for a shower. He promises to join her shortly. She enters the bathroom to find the mirror shattered. Assessing the mirror, he suggests something hit it. Sasha describes the incident as “spooky”. Lisa has a smirk on her face.
Great Grand Central Rail Station – Inspector Barker (Mark Noble) scolds Akash Lockhart (Yaamin Chowdhury) for not following protocol when requesting last year’s suicide at Platform 7. Akash says interviews from people close to Lisa dispute the coroner’s mental health verdict based on Matt’s testimony. He plays Dr. Richard Shale’s (Reece Ritchie) interview but Barker demands he turn it off. When Shale says Matt has another victim on his radar, Barker says wait. Akash tells him that it is possible Lisa was being pursued before she died. Barker warns that it is risky to provoke someone of power without evidence. He says it may be possible to convince the police to reopen Lisa’s case by discrediting Matt’s mental health claim through credible witnesses. He suggests getting a statement from Helen Gao (Jasmine Bayes), Matt’s ex-girlfriend who attempted suicide. As Akash prepares to leave, Barker tells him that his daughter is a nurse.
Sasha calls her mum to check on her young son, Max. Lisa boasts of her luck in finding Matt. Her mum urges her to take it slow. Sasha reluctantly agrees. Lisa warns Lisa to not let Matt anywhere near her son. Later, Sasha says after she and Max’s father went separate ways, she moved back to be near her parents. He asks to meet Max but she believes it is too soon. He expresses his desire to be part of her and Max’s life when Lisa knocks over his wine glass. Lisa tries to tell Sasha that Matt makes you believe it is your fault. Sasha suggests they take Max to the park.
Akash plays Shale’s recorded statement for Melissa (Sacha Parkinson). He suggests talking to Matt without him becoming suspicious. She reminds him that police are in and out of A&E. Darka (Sangeeta Samsera Sharma) and Viraz (Moey Hassan) greet Akash and Melissa. Darka tries to pry into their relationship until Viraz pulls her away. Melissa assures him that the next time they go out it will be a date.
Akash visits the A&E under the pretense of picking up a pathology report for the rail suicide. Matt says it is not Grand Central’s first suicide. He says natural gas is preferable to leaving your body parts scattered about on the train tracks for “poor sods” to pick up. He calls the act “selfish”.
Lisa guesses the passcode to Matt’s laptop. Elsewhere, Helen tells Shale that she owed it to Lisa to pull herself together.
The School Principal (Melanie Gutteridge) tells Akash about Lisa helping a student learn to deal with his anger. She says he is a Manchester University Law student. She explains how thrilled Lisa was by the prospect of being the next Deputy Head, only to withdraw her application two days later.
Lisa prepares a meal and sets the table. Elsewhere, Shale calls the transit office to speak with Akash only to reach Sonny Morgan (Lladel Bryant) instead. He gives him a message for Akash. He turns around to find Helen adjusting his cups. Shale claims Matt asked him to take his exam. He admits to not being good at making friends. He says took him under his wing at medical school. He attributes their friendship to his making excuses for Matt’s poor treatment of women. He claims to have promised himself to warn Lisa but never did. Shale says when he confronted Matt, he called him his “useful idiot,” not a friend. Helen invites him out to the bistro. He thanks her for not being judgmental.
Matt returns home to dinner on the stove and the table set. Lisa repeatedly flips the light on and off. He enters the bathroom to find the tub and sink filling up with water. He rushes over to turn the taps off. He asks Layla (Cleo Sylvestre) if she gave someone access to his flat. She says not. After ordering her to return Lisa’s spare key, he threatens her with an injunction if she accesses his flat again. She says that goes both ways before tossing the key on the floor. Later, he tosses his and Lisa’s photo in the trash. At A&E, Matt tells Sasha that Layla was in his flat. Sasha questions why Layla would go into his flat. He suggests she has dementia. She watches as Matt invites Athea Cox (Margaret Clunie) to a nearby pub to outline some ideas for patient care. Athea rejects his offer. When Matt walks away from the computer, Lisa utilizes it to send Anthea a text.
Barker urges Akash to find evidence of Matt being controlling. Akash assures him that Matt is too sly to do it in front of Lisa’s friends. Sonny does not tell Akash about Shale’s message.
Anthea confronts Matt about his email that reads, “I know you felt the chemistry between us, as I did. I’m up for following up on it if you are.” He attributes it to a hack. She threatens to report him to HR if he talks to her inappropriately again.
Trevor Evans (Patrick Robinson) admits to being shocked by the corner’s mental health claim. He tells Akash about the last time he saw Lisa alive. He describes her behavior as “jumpy” which got worse when Matt showed up without warning. He says Matt told them after Lisa died that she was severely depressed. Akash tells him that Lisa’s case could be reopened if Matt’s mental health claim can be disproven. Trevor says he and Evelyn have different opinions of Matt. Later, Trevor tells Evelyn about his meeting with Akash. Evelyn supports Matt. He suggests Matt was controlling Lisa but she refuses to believe it. He points out that only Matt saw Lisa depressed.
Lisa flips on a recording of Matt singing “Killing Me Softly With His Song” by Fugees when he returns home. He frantically searches for the remote to find it in the refrigerator. He flips off the TV. She turns it back on. He unplugs the TV. She turns on the laptop. He slaps the laptop lid shut. She blows on his cheek. Spotting the photo from the trash, he smashes it and questions what is happening.
Trevor enters Lisa’s room to see Trevor cut out of his and Lisa’s photos. He comforts her. Elsewhere, Matt is startled awake when Lisa blows air on his cheek. He looks over to see a photo of Lisa on his laptop screen. He slams it shut. Later, Matt arrives at work late. Anthea points at her watch. He goes to access a patient, leaving his phone on the counter. Lisa sends a sexy photo of Matt and a message – “If you like what you see, text me” – to every A&E nurse. Matt returns to find everyone staring at him.
Layla tells Akash about Lisa and Matt’s argument on the night she died. She claims Matt woke her up at 2am. When he returned home. Akash asks if she told the investigators. She says yes but they never sent anyone to take her statement. She tells him that Lisa changed after meeting Matt.
Lisa watches Matt talk to his superiors. He is escorted out of the emergency room. Elsewhere, Akash informs Melissa that Barker is sending the evidence for Lisa’s case to the London headquarters. He invites her out for a drink. She demands something more memorable.
Matt tells Sasha that HR forced him to take annual leave. He denies sending the email and text. She urges him to get help. He says stick to bedpans before calling her “low-hanging fruit” easy to pick. As she turns to leave, he grabs her hand. Lisa attacks him from behind. Sasha leaves. Lisa releases him and shoves him down. Matt frantically searches for a speaker before rushing out the door. Layla calls Akash to inform him of Matt’s strange behavior. He tells her to call the police. Matt races down the street, passing Akash and his brother on a motorcycle. Scaling the security gate at Platform 7, he inches toward the train track. He crosses the track to the other side as the train passes. He survives unscathed.
Akash returns to his parent’s restaurant to find Melissa waiting.
Trevor and Evelyn put their flat on the market. Izzy (Rhiannon Clements) and Rosaria “Rosie” Diaz (Tabata Cerezo) are having drinks together. Matt is in a mental institution. Lisa returns to Grand Central where Edward Warren (Phil Davis) sits on a bench at Platform 7. She boards a train as the episode ends.
Platform 7 Review
The finale is not a complete disappointment but pretty darn close. Love connections seem to be an important factor in the finale. Shale and Helen, and Akash and Melissa enter relationships. Edward doesn’t make an appearance until the last few minutes of the episode.
Lisa’s spiritual abilities are a bit over the top. Of course, many people believe spirits possess such abilities, especially demons. It just seems out of place in Platform 7.
Akash’s long, drawn-out investigation ended on a cliffhanger. The producer must be assured of a season 2.
The finale deserves a 5. Get more Platform 7 recaps here. Support Reel Mockery by donating. Our onsite advertising is a great way to build online awareness, click here to learn more. Join our newly established forum to discuss Platform 7 and other new releases.
