As the episode begins, Arthur (Luke Treadaway) and Leo (Bill Nighy) cover up Philip’s body. Kirsten (Morven Christie) walks out into the woods. Mickey (Christian Cooke) sits with his sisters. Mickey admits that Jack (Anthony Boyle) should have never died or been charged. Kirsten recalls looking at Jack’s face after his death. She is confronted by Hester (Ella Purnell) and the others. Mary (Eleanor Tomlinson) asks about Philip. They agree to have no more secrets. In a flashback, we see the day Mickey returned from the war. He and Tina (Crystal Clarke) begin having an intimate relationship. Then, Tina confronts Rachel (Anna Chancellor) and insists she wants to live in a bedsit. Once the conversation ends, Rachel downs a couple of pills. She went downstairs and was comforted by Kirsten.
The group begins suspecting that Kirsten killed Rachel. In another flashback, we see Hester fleeing from the family home. She called the house once a week to tell everyone she was okay. She would only speak to Kirsten. Leo tells Arthur about the difficulty of seeing Rachel’s face after her death. He admits everything is coming home to roost. Then, we see the day when Philip arrived home. Rachel reads a letter from Hester to Kirsten. It explains that she got married. She also gets Kirsten’s address. One night, Jack got drunk and slept in Mickey’s car. He spots Mickey and Tina making out. On Christmas eve, Rachel visits Hester’s new apartment. She pays her husband to leave. She drugs Hester and takes her to the hospital. Rachel wants to deal with a possible pregnancy. Once it is finished, she drives Hester back home. She gets Kirsten to care for the girl. She gets Mickey and Tina to come deal with Jack.
She tells Jack about finding Hester. He tells her that he hopes Hester told her to piss off. Then, Jack watches as Rachel finds Leo with Gwenda (Alice Eve). She busts Gwenda’s nose. Jack spots Hester and Kirsten. Rachel argues with Leo. She explains that she wants a divorce and that will leave him penniless. A small ornament of sorts hits the ground. Mary asks Rachel why she got her. She admits she was sad and thought Mary could help, but didn’t. Jack confronts his mother and tells her about Mickey and Tina’s relationship. She tells him that he wasn’t adopted from an orphanage. Kirsten is his mother. Jack speaks with Kirsten downstairs. He asks her how she dealt with it and why the man wouldn’t marry her. Outside, Rachel meets Mickey and Tina. Mickey argues with her and forces her to say please. Rachel scolds Tina for her relationship with Mickey.
Tina runs into Mickey. He tries to convince her that they’ve done nothing wrong, but she won’t listen. Back in the present, Kirsten speaks with Arthur. She explains that everyone believed Jack had done it. They wonder if there was another murder weapon. Arthur tells her about Philip. Mary doesn’t believe that Philip overdosed on his own. Kirsten sneaks into Philip’s office. She finds the ornament. It has a crack and blood on it. In a flashback, we see that Philip smashed Rachel in the head with it. Kirsten confronts Rachel and asks her why she told Jack. Rachel dies a short time later. We see Leo scheming with Bellamy Gould (Brian McCardie) to frame Jack. During Leo’s visit with Jack at the jail, Jack explains that he is going to ruin him during the trial. He reveals that Leo is his father. She slept with Kirsten when she was just 15.
Leo plots with Bellamy to have him killed. Back in the present, Mickey and the others try to get Arthur out of the house. They believe he is in danger. Leo has him returned to the asylum. Then, he tells the kids that Arthur was wrong about the time and Jack was guilty all along. They confront him with the real murder weapon. We jump forward in time. Divers search the water for Leo’s body. Mickey and the others pay Arthur a visit at the asylum. Kirsten heads downstairs. We see that Leo is locked away in the fallout shelter. He pleads with Kirsten to let him out.
Ordeal By Innocence Review
Ordeal by Innocence was really great from start to finish. I hadn’t read the book so I wasn’t sure what would happen in the end. The twists and turns were very good. The acting was great. I thought Luke Treadaway and Anthony Boyle were excellent. The entire cast was amazing. The finale scores a solid 8 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of Ordeal by Innocence now!
